If you ever feel like a loser, remember: Diogenes (the philosopher) was homeless, lived in a barrel and told Alexander the Great to move out of his sunlight, and he’s still more famous than half the ‘winners’ in history.

I'm just chilling now from 55 onwards....Will not be anyone's wage slave and have no inclination to become self employed and running around like a headless chicken chasing money while the clock tick out. Loser? whatever, I have time(and health) to do whatever the hell I want, and just enough money to live on. That's a win in my books.

@@AD-zu8uc I took what pensions I have as early as possible, despite a financial penalty and believe me monthly it's probably what most people on minimum wage in the UK get for 2 weeks. We paid off the house 12 years early as when I was on a decent wage (only one job in my life like that!) I was overpaying the mortgage by an additional £1000 a month for several years. I'm a stonemason to trade and can do all trades, have amassed the tools over the years and the house isn't old so don't foresee major issues, it's also detached so nobody else will create financial issues. ie shared roofs/walls etc. I also do all my own mechanics(within reason, modern cars are getting worse to work on!) so can keep the car cost to a minimum (wife still working and she needs a car, usual car/work trap). I stopped drinking 3 years ago and have zero vices, my outgoings are my share of utilities, about £150 a month, and food. The money I get looks a pittance, but the amount it costs for rent where I am I know I have way more than many of the unfortunate ones working full time and renting. I'm 10 years off of state retirement (56.5) now but that will disappear I reckon by then, some UBI nonsense. I just want to do the things I like doing (bikepacking, road cycling , hillwalking, camping, kayaking and swimming in our local loch) while I can.... No kids thankfully, and if this proves untenable due to inflation there's either going back to work a couple of days a week, get a lodger, or sell the house and downsize use any profit to tide getting to "official" retirement, or selling up everything and moving somewhere abroad where life is cheaper and the weather better... or vanlife even! (Especially now the govt plan to offset the state pension against private pensions you have paid into, why work any longer there will be no benefit at the final analysis ? Get the hell out and enjoy the time)

Being called a loser doesn’t define who you are. What exactly have you lost? Life isn’t about winning according to someone else’s rules, it's about learning, growing, and finding your own path. People may never see your value, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have any. Don’t let their labels hold you back. What really matters is how you feel about yourself and the progress you’re making. Keep moving forward, because your worth isn’t determined by anyone’s judgment but your own.

I also look at the whole "loser" thing from a nihilistic perspective. No matter how much you achieve in life, how much money you make, your accomplishments and name will eventually be forgotten and worthless. Even our greatest leaders, scientists and artists' names and works will succumb to the entropy of the universe.
Time shows no mercy and has no favourites.
That doesn't mean you shouldn't try to do absolutely something with your life, even if it isn't major, but people who attach their ego to what they have done or what material goods they've obtained will still lose everything they have in death.
Edit: So just to clarify, I already tried to explain my contradictory statement above to one of the commenter's below. I was dealing with an unhappy brain fug when writing this, but here's the gist of what I originally meant:
Your life is objectively meaningless on a macro-scale, but that's okay since you can craft your own meaning and hold yourself to your own standards, not those of other people. Don't compare yourself to other people or whatever they've done, since in the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter.
Don't beat yourself up by thinking you're a loser or worthless. One day even our world will be swallowed up by our sun when it starts to die, and then even its corpse will drift away on stellar winds.

Read the following, straight through: The Gospel of Luke, The Gospel of John, The Acts of the Apostles, St Paul's Epistle to the Romans at least through chapter five.

Also, please don't use your messianic death cult's little holy book to try and frighten me into cow-towing to the malignant fiction you worship. I grew up in that culture and know all of its dirty little manipulative tricks. It was a sublime day when I finally threw off the barbed chains of that odious religion.

Additionally, just a few weeks ago, I decided to look/choose a partner who aren't as classy/wealthy, so that they're expectations in life and from me is low.

I think men should walk away from dating. I did and here is my little story why. The last girl I ever met off a dating site called me a loser because I don't have a car, left my job earlier this year and live with family. She still put out first so clearly her priorities are wrong 😂. I told her I sold my car to invest in Bitcoin back at the beginning of COVID when I became work from home. I left my job because I saw layoffs coming and I was right. I live with family until I find a woman or goal worth leaving them behind for. I even told her I had over 2 years wages in savings and investments. She literally had $400. But because she was in nursing school and "planned on making tons of money" she said this will never work. I checked out of dating since then. Life is genuinely so much better without the stress, pressure and grinding to be more.

By not trying to amass wealth and material things, one is forced to be very judicious about what to do with their few resources. In crass terms, that means that those people know how to get their moneys worth or really stretch a dollar. In human terms, it demonstrates their values and the amount of thought that they have used to determine them.

I agree, it also shows creativity, intelligence, patience and a person who is not impulsive in their actions. That seems to be a more interesting way to live than doing whatever for a bunch of money. When I see a person with lots of material wealth, I tend to ask myself what morally corrupt thing did they do for it and also how sad it must be that they see their power in terms of what they can accumulate.

The problem is that life is a downward escalator, and if you’re not moving enough, you’re going down. The other thing is that if you’re not taking care of yourself, someone has to. The better philosophy is to play this life like a video game, level up and customize your character with skills, and use them to help others and yourself.

Your own addition at the end is a perfect summary of the topic. From my point of view many rules that seem to be lying above and around all of us like a net come as a byproduct of modern society. Those rules make it very hard to truly appreciate life and live in the moment because they make us doubt our own existence if we don't accommodate to them. We constantly have the feeling that we need to justify our own existence. That's why our view towards life is always in the future or in the past. We worry the hell out of everything and we fear to stop that thinking pattern because of society's judgment. To stop the noise around you is to find your way back to yourself and to know what it feels like to be yourself. 🙏

There is more to ambition than just stigma. It's actually smart to be ambitious because life can be cruel and doesn't care about you. Ambition can help you create a safety net for yourself and your loved ones. There is so much talk today about stigmatization, when in reality some things just suck regardless of what society thinks.

But come to think of it, it is so true. What kind of family you are in, where you are born, and who you meet in your life are all by luck. Sometimes it just doesn't work no matter how hard you try if you don't have one of the components. Just be greatful for what you have.

As many others mention in various ways 'success' is an endpoint with ever changing goalposts. One thing that has settled in my mind in retirement age is there is no endpoint where it is finally 'done' To live is to engage. There never is a final destination in other words only the journey. Depending on the accomplishment of end goals like social success for fulfillment sets one up for never ending anxiety. Dying while fully engaged in one's latest project is success in my mind. Nevermind what others may think.

Thank you for sharing your video. I have read that Positivity is a sign of wisdom. I believe that no one should be labeled as a loser especially if they are trying their best to make a living. I totally agree that not everybody who can afford luxury cars is a winner because most rice farmers don't own a luxury car or should I say can't afford a luxury car, but they have a fulfilling and peaceful life. Without them, we won't have food on our table. So winning in life should not be based on the amount of money or property you have, but on how someone holds their intangible values.

I think a respectable social status is good and all, but constantly standing on your tiptoes just to please and impress people we aren't even familiar with not only is a product of the current neo-liberal capitalist society, but also highlights its inherent and potent nature of convincing us to over-identify our Ego with the Persona, and distancing the Ego from the Personal Unconscious, which if not dealt with properly, breeds psychological neuroticism.

Being successful is being at peace with yourself. Dont worry what other people think, this will take time and effort and discipline to be more stoic. Also always remember so called successful people suffer a lot. Nowhere it is more visible than in a airplane in a business class compartment. A lot of passengers are either working still and not enjoying their luxury. Others keep on demanding more and complaints can be heard that they lack something. The more you have the more you want and thats a vicious circle.
