  • This is an exhaust manifold removal on a 2007 Mazda CX-7 2.3 liter turbo which is the same or very similar to the mazdaspeed 3 motor. I thought this would turn out a little more professional than it did so I have a lot to improve on for the next video, like speaking louder and being a little more fluid with my words! Hopefully this helps some of you guys out there. I started off being told the manifold was cracked but it ended up just needing a gasket... so the same could be true in your case also! Enjoy! Did you have to remove the exhaust studs in order to remove the exhaust manifold?

    • @944withnos
      @944withnos  11 місяців тому +1

      No, you don't have to take the studs out to remove the manifold... but the studs may come off depending on what breaks loose (the stud or the nut).

    Did u re use the exhaust manifold metal gasket or did u replace it?

    • @944withnos

      I replaced the exhaust manifold gasket. Im not sure they can be reused once they are compressed and it would suck to have to do all the work again to replace it if it leaked.

    I just removed the turbo and cat last night on our cx7 08 and what a job, we took care of this cars maintenance and the turbo oil seals failed (the spin wheel has a lot of play and there is oil into the intercooler intake) plugs were terrible looking. O2 sensors and cats have to be replaced also, egr clogged, vvt solenoid and cam cap is on the blink. Tell you what, no more ford/mazda turbo vehicles for me ever again. When I look at all the coolant lines, oil lines and all the egr and emmission lines all over the place, vacuum lines snaked everywhere, vvt solenoid, sensors and actuators...on and on and I'm like, why? it's just way too much junk engineered to fail for epa happiness. Last night I even disconnected a coolant line that came through two actuators w sensors, then to the turbo, then out of the hot ass turbo, then directly to the top of the transmission, it surprised me that the trans just didnt have its own dedicated lines directly to the radiator. Well, anyway,, I really just wanted to say thank you for your video and posting the size of your manifold bolt thread chasing. I''m gonna get on amazon and get me a tap and die kit now. Appreciate and completely have a whole new understanding of what you did here. Note to people attempting this...go to harbor freight and get 2 large clear parts boxes with lids at 3 dollars a piece, take a pen and a stack of index cards, cut up in squares and label all the bolts and where they came from...cat to turbo bolts x 5...etc. turbo to manifold bolts, intake plenum bolt, etc... there will be many clips, brackets, bolts and nuts, and now that ive done this, I'm not dreading putting things back together. Get new gasket kits or any hoses you find suspect also. liked and subbed. good luck ya.ll.

      also bought good 4 ton jacks stands from napa, for safety, They ran 65 for a set of two. two sets. blue w napa decals. so not too bad for the piece of mind after reading about harbor freights multiple recalls and jacks failing on people, oh my.

      I'm doing this job now and oh what a joy not lol. I'm the shortest male in my family and I pretty much just have to lay across the top of the engine.

      I have the engine out of the car right now, and when I look at the turbo - I can only imagine what a nightmare it would be to do from just the top... it looks awful with full access!!!
      Definitely one of the stupidest layouts out there...

      I assume you mean #4 in the torque order? I had to use a box wrench, lean on the engine block and set my elbow under the back left of the manifold. makes it hard to get any torque, so i took a set my wrench, used a metal hook and pulled through a gap in the manifold. A lot. For nuts #10, 6 and 8 i removed the egr valve made it a breeze but i had to drain coolant for it. For all the other lower ones use an offset box wrench, some can be done with an extenstion on a socket wrench. didnt have to get under the car once
