Karl, this is one of your best video. Love the simple but very effective instructions. Your explanation is key, many videos just saws how to play the shot but you explain why we need to play that shot and you explained what is the correct shot. Love to see more. Thank you for uploading.
One of the best videos of pool out there. Players often miss last ball because of the previous shot as they are not able to play perfect position. This video shows how it’s done. Thanks 👍👏
Note that most all the correct shots are hit the same speed. which also means if your hitting the same speed you will be more consistent. Less chance of skids as well.
Of all the different pro instructional videos, you are the first one I have seen using straight SIDE for shots... i thought i was a weirdo for doing that.. thanks for the reinforcement!
Many thanks Karl! It's a privilege to have these videos and I look forward to more. This one illustrates that among my many shortcomings, not relying on the rails enough in my shot planning is a big no-no :-D
Great video. In #3, with the side pocket shot, could you have stunned it, with lower left english, and got on the 9, without touching a rail, or did you have too much angle on the 8? Just a really soft stun / roll shot, to get on the 8? I really love those 3 rail follow shots, using outside english, to get shape on the next ball. And I always had a big fear of scratching in the side pocket, when coming off a rail, so mentally thinking about going 2 rails to get shape, is a scary thought. I rather not get anywhere near that side, and have to play a hard cut shot.
Wish I had the internet when I was starting pool, instead I had to travel, sometimes hundreds of miles to see the type of shooter we can all watch and learn from today. I also walked to school barefoot uphill in the snow for 50 miles but that another story :)
Great vid, as are all the vids about common errors! I know you're predominantly a 9 ball player but could you do the same vid for what to do in English pool please? Or any common errors you see in English pool. Thanks :)
Thanks Karl for your videos. It’s always helpful and entertaining as well. Could you please make a video about the tips differences hard, medium, soft tips and what’s the best to use in term the spin and cue ball speed. Thanks
Hi Karl, amazing videos and keep up the good job! One question, that bothered me for quite a long time. Does breathing have anything to do with shooting? For example, do pros use the same routine for every shot like exaling before hitting the ball or inhaling before hitting a ball. Has this anything to do with your stability, routine or anything at all? I would be glad to hear answer from you mate!
These tips are gold. How manny times did we try to get that touchy perfect speed controlled position and screwed it up. By playing a lot I started to understand that the rails are your friend. Use more rails if it helps you controll the position better! Like Karl said: "procentage wise". Again, another fantastic video. And cut it out with the amateur stuff, Karl! 😂 you could kick our asses any day. 😁
Can you explain more on natural angles and execution shots for position play. B/c your vids are good. But some players need to know how to make it easier on them especially playing shots w/ stun and draw. B/. I know the cue changes path w/ draw and follow.
@karl I understand all these shots but playing with inside english is a real challenge. Looked up a lot of video’s on inside english but all of them explain the theory but none of them actually explain in simple terms how much to compensate the shot aiming wise. They all say.. “you have to compensate your aim.. “ Yeah owkay.. but how 🤣 I feel that you would do a marvelous job of explaining this in plain english. Please make a video of this. Regards Bob
Nobody knows exactly how much to compensate when using spins. It always depend on your cue and how much force are you striking the cue ball with. However, it is important to understand two terms when utilizing spins, "Cut induced throw" and "Spin induced throw". Once you understand how those works, you will be able to know when to compensate by aiming thinner, and when to compensate by aiming thicker depending on which spin (inside/outside) and how hard/soft you are planning to strike the cue ball with. Sharivari made a video on "how to aim with english/sides". It teaches you which "direction" you need to compensate your aim with. Again, by how much? Nobody can tell you exactly, it will always depend on the cue you are using and the force exerted on the cue ball.
@@dnsnake7632 I get that but as a general rule you can give a direction. Outside spin i have mastered.. quite adequate even.... maybe in comparison with that you can say.. “ the amount you compensate for outside spin to the right our left, you compensate double for inside spin.” For example.. there must be some better way of explaining this no :))
@@bobdepelsmaeker well, lets use outside spin as an example then since you say you are quite adequate with it. If you are hitting lightly, the amount of "squirt/deflection" is minimal, and "spin induced throw" is higher. Thus you actually aim thicker, aka undercutting the ball because the spin induced throw is going to "throw" the object ball. Vice versa, if you are striking the cue ball harder with faster pace, "squirt/deflection" takes more of an effect, and "spin induced throw" is minimal, thus you actually have to aim thinner, overcutting the object ball to compensate for the "squirt/deflection" of your cue. Inside spin/english/side is literally the opposite. Sharivari did a fantastic job explaining it in his video, and I am sure if one day Karl Boyes does his own video, given him being a really good player/ex professional, he can explain it very well too. But if you don't want to wait til Karl's potential future video..check out Sharivari's video ua-cam.com/video/h_x1XPqVBIM/v-deo.html As for how much to compensate, what works for you will not work for others, as it's always a "feel" shot, you really have to go practice and get acquainted with your own cue. Every cue is different, ash wood, maple wood, diameter of the tip, low deflection shaft, regular shaft. weight of your cue, etc...way too many variable for anyone to simply give you a firm answer to "how much" to compensate. There is no shortcut my friend, you simply have to get a feel for your own cue. Which is why when a professional player switches cue, it usually takes them a while to get used to it. Hence is also why, most pros are super stubborn when it comes to switching cue. If they don't have to switch cue, they usually don't, unless the sponsorship money is too sweet to pass up.
In the hustlin' days this was a trick of the trade that no pro would ever reveal the magic. Now everyone online is like "reveal the magic" or I'll cry. The truth is there is no magic. Every table is different, All the balls are different. And the cue materials are different. I could take an Old Schon or Falcon shaft and crank the inside juice like no one had ever seen. It's called practice. It's the only way to get good. Then Predator came out with blah blah blah deflection and the juice and my technique went bye bye. So I sold it. Stop asking this question. If your inside juice is to the right aim inside the pocket to the right. If you have a predator shaft toss that in the garbage while tossin your own salad
Also they should be eliminating jump cues. I firmly believe you should not be able to "buy" "game". The technology made the pros look so good, they had to change the rules. Stupid. It's like a millionaire saying they beat a kid in FIFA cuz they bought all their players, not because they have talent
