    That whole process sounds ridiculous! Seriously I didn’t think the health system in Canada was as bad as America. Glad you advocated for yourself.

    I'm Australian, sun awareness is an institution and part of our life down here. TV campaigns - slip, slop and slap was a slogan back in the 80's. Slip (on protective clothing), slop (on sunscreen), slap (on a hat). I'm aghast at incompetence of medical practitioners you were faced with. There is something wrong with the system when you have to fight and advocate for your health. I actually think googling is a good thing, how else do we become aware, and knowledge is power especially when the medical profession are negligent. I hope your health is under control, you are a real heroine, sending love.

      Thanks for the comments. I have progressed to stage 4 now 8 months after finishing targeted therapy. I'm doing very well still though 😊
      I also agree with your comment now on "googling". It actually gave me more insight on what questions to ask. Very helpful.

    I've heard of getting the runaround and I've experienced it myself to some degree but your experience was taken to a new ridiculous level. Keep standing up for yourself, stay strong, and hold their feet to the fire!

    Terri, I wish you a full and fast recovery and a long and happy life. when your treatment has finished you might want to consider a career as a comedian as despite the very serious topic that you are discussing you have an absolutely fantastic sense of humour. Very best of wishes for the future.

    I am so happy you said be your own advocate! You have a wonderful fighting spirit, keep it up. Prayers for a full recovery. Stay positive and yes stay away from negativity. Keep going and stay in touch if you can. Medicine has it’s drawbacks but it’s all we have. We put our trust in these people, we put our lives in their hands. Thank you for sharing.

    It is really disgusting the hoops you had to jump through to get diagnoses, test, and treatments. It is a miracle anything got done at all. I am so sorry you had to go through this. Thank god you were your own advocate.

    This is why socialized medicine kills I’ve seen similar stories like this in the UK, if this woman didn’t advocate for herself and fight for additional testing she might not be alive today and still her initial diagnosis her healthcare providers were cold and nonchalant.My husband has had malignant melanoma twice here in the states and never was he treated this way surgery was done within days of diagnosis and fully referrals and additional aggressive follow up . Never did he have one question about his care and he was treated with compassion . Socialized medicine kills

      Good luck affording treatment if you don't have good insurance in the States.
      Canadian medicare ain't prefect but American corporatized medicine kills legions more.

      It does. I have great insurance through my work. I asked my friend who’s is anesthesiologist for a dermatologist recommendation today. He recommended one. I made an appointment for next Tuesday. A doctor should be able to order a scan for this lady. She already was diagnosed. Why go to the general practitioner? Bureaucracy….

      This case would have been handled far more seriously and aggressively if occurring in the U.S. Chemo would have certainly followed her first surgery. Socialized medicine scares me. Good for you my dear that you took a no-nonsense approach and insisted on further investigation. God Bless you dear one.

      Thank you all. It really is a shit show here in Canada. By telling my story, more people tell me I'd it wasn't for me telling it they wouldn't have got scans, test, apts either. They realized we have to advocate, research and get our own scans.
      I'm now stage 4, and again I called for all my scans. But update is I'm doing very good 😊😊

    Hi thank u so much for sharing your story , the question that I have is. Do you think that applying coconut oil or olive at skin can protect from sun damage ???

    • @MelanomaCanada
      @MelanomaCanada  7 місяців тому

      Hi there, thank you for watching and for your question. The most effective way to protect your skin from sun damage is to wear sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher, everyday. Additionally, covering the skin as much as possible with clothing, hats, and sunglasses will also provide protection from sun damage. For more information on sun safety, please visit our website: melanomacanada.ca/sun-safety/
