How right you are, Paul. Regular exercise over the years is the way to go. It is unfortunate, but a lot of what you can do as you get older often depends on sheer luck. If a person is dogged by illness, or maybe disability, or maybe damage from accidents, then the amount and type of exercise they can take can be limited. I am extremely lucky, in that at 92 years of age I have never had a serious illness or accident. I have the common problems of high BP and type 2 diabetes, but luckily they don't impair my activity. An avid cyclist in my yoof - I joined my first cycling club in 1948 - I later switched to squash, which I played until my retirement at 66, whereupon I took up road cycling again. I still ride my road bike - Lycra and all - but two years ago I finally conceded defeat to the hills around where I live, and added a small friction drive e-kit to help me out a bit. It has enabled me to get back on routes I had been avoiding, so has definitely been worthwhile. This has not been to blow my own trumpet - well not entirely - but more by way of an encouragement to others. If lucky enough to be able to do so, stick at it and you will be able to keep going a long time.
absolutely awesome ! Thanks for sharing! Whereabouts are you based?
@@PaulGreenVlog I live in SW France now - but between 2000 and 2009, was more or less in your neck of the woods, living just outside Lincoln. Keep up the good work.
Cycling can be affected by health problems, 3 years ago I was managed 246 miles in one ride, now struggle to manage 16 without electric help, if it wasn't for a bit of help from my pedelec ebikes, I would get any exercise as walking is so painful. Today is first day out since Sunday, as worked a long hard day cooking for 70 in a local pub restaurant, started 10am didn't get a break until nearly 8pm, made my knees so painful.
👍👍👍
Well said Paul. Great video 👏👍🚴♂️
Thanks 👍
My best wishes are most heartfelt and I wish Julie all the best with her treatment and recovery.
As for you Paul, you made an error surely, 60? 70 maybe!?🤔😜
Hhhmmm.... I need to review my subscribers lol. 😂😂😂😂😂
@@PaulGreenVlog I'm only kidding. You don't look a day over 61 mate......😜
Spot on Paul!! So so true and very important to stay fit.
If I hadn't been fit I would not be here today to tell the tale. 100% that is.
It's good to see. that Julie seems to be doing well.
Totally Duncan. Hope you are all good. I'm hoping to make the Lakes in the autumn
Wise words Paul. Glad you are finally recovered from your own health issues, and thanks for all the videos. Best wishes to the Wheelers for a speedy recovery. Peter
Cheers Peter
Great words spoken Paul 👍
👍 👍 👍 👍
Completely Paul. Lovely gesture to wish Julie well. I think the last we heard all was well with the op and I have no doubt that her fitness will see her through.
This year has been dreadful health wise for me. The desire to get back on the bike has kept me going, though it seems harder every time I have a set back. You’re not going to like it, but what has also really helped have been lower intensity rides on the trainer while watching the tv I watch.
Cheers Neil. I believe Julie is home now so that's fabulous news
100% Correct Paul, I am in my sixties, not truer words said.
Cheer s Alistair
Top man Paul and well said regarding Julie and Mike. I completely agree with the outdoor and cycling thing it certainly saved me when I was diagnosed with CPTSD. So to sum up YEEHAH to Julie, best wishes to Mike and top man Paul and best wishes and god bless to all.
cheers,👍👍👍
It’s a case of just getting on with it, been cycling for 40 plus years , working 6 nights a week, up until 2020 had give up my job , and the bike after having a brain tumour this was the second lot of cancer I’ve had first in 2015 with male Brest cancer, still road my bike in between having Chemotherapy treatment 50 miles sportive for Clatterbridge , slowly built up my fitness level , tho 5 years later a brain cancer tumour , with epilepsy seizures so now not able to ride a bike balance being one of them , I’m disappointed had to sell all my bikes , at 64 years old, I’ve been going out on a 3 wheeler with Wheels for all it’s not much just under 2 miles but it’s a start I’m now on blood thinners for a blood clots in my right leg and chest, so twice a day I’m on medication/ injections it’s not wot I had planned for retirement but but watching the u tube video keeps me going good luck to Julie yee haa

Good point, very well made! Would suggest a youtube channel "Always Another Adventure" by Simon Willis (if not already viewed) which has a very good series of keep fit/healthy videos specifically aimed at the older cyclist/runner/walker.
Yes. Simon has some great content. Very well made
