Sounds like you’re making some progress Paul. Fingers crossed for you. Don’t be in a rush. As I’m sure you’ll appreciate this is about taking it steady and being really patient . 👍👍👍 You’ll get there. 👍👍👍
Good to see you are keeping positive and recovering well. I was off the bike this time last year for 3 months recovering from a hernia operation, going stir crazy. I could not do much let alone balance on one leg - even sober! Seems like you balance is good. Love the funky racing scooter in the background, ever raced around Cadwell?
Good to see you again Paul, and so pleased to learn that your recovery is going really well. For what it’s worth, I cycle with flat pedals fitted with toe clips. I find the toe clips give me that extra security without being firmly attached to the pedal. Good luck, Peter
Very best wishes Paul. I can’t offer much specifics advice but the very first steps will be walking and building up time on different terrain surfaces and treadmill to develop your balance and lower legs .Get a decent fitness coach to develop strength specific exercises in that ankle joint and capsule and in both legs. Join a gym and do the specific exercises two or three times a day the physio/coach gives you and work through the pain. Reward yourself for every session or week completed.Be prepared for the graft of getting mobility and previous strength back. Ride a stationary trainer in the local gym with flat pedals building up the time over a period of 3-4 weeks. You should then within that time period begin to feel stronger and be able to balance ,squat, bound and be ready for cycling. All the very best . Good luck.🤞🏻
Elbow crutches are a pain, most people over 40 will go home with underarms for a lower leg break, but they recognised your better than average fitness/mobility and that you will be better off in the long run, because elbow's help maintain core strength/posture which in turn will speed up your recovery. It's a testament to you (and cycling in general) and a good sign that they expect nothing but a full recovery. As for cleats there is no way to tell really, I have a minor knee issue and for me having almost no float makes it mostly a non-issue, but my fitter says some people with the exact same issue find more float works better for them, so it's likely to be a "suck it and see" situation I imagine. 👍
Stick to racing scooters its safe😊
A lot of people don't realise but cycling can be one of the most dangerous sports. I have cycled for sport all my life and have broken a neck of femur ( hip), open fracture of my elbow, two broken collar bones and i have lost count of the broken ribs, bruises cuts and scrapes, that i have suffered, training and racing. Come out of it all at the other end at 66 though, no arthritis, no comorbidities, no prescription drugs, slim and the fittest, healthiest o.a.p. I know. Still cycling. Still able to maintain 25 mph for on hour on zwift tempus fugit. Most of my age cohorts and younger are fat, have diabetes or some sort of metabolic disease and hobble along, if they are still here, some aren't. My hip took 5 months before I could ride again after cannular hip screws were fitted, then removed after fixation, it took 5 years approximately, in total before I could not feel the injury at all, from 40 years old, when it happened.
Good to hear your on the mend mate. You should get together with Roy and be crutches twins.. you call start a new channel shuffle along with Roy and Paul. !!!
Pleased recovery is going well Paul.👍
Great to hear from you Mr Green. I'm glad you're recovering. Just take your time and don't rush it. I know it's frustrating, I've been there. But plenty of rest will help greatly in your recovery. Good to know the bike didn't take too much damage. That always makes you feel better. Take care and I wish you a good recovery.
Wishing you a full and speedy recovery.
Good recovering best wishes Peter perth wa😊😊
Keep mending and take care!
I'd start back on flats, still a way off yet though as you need to make sure that legs fully healed first.
Good to hear your update.. 😀❤be a good patient and keep that ankle elevated🥰look forward to seeing the ebike build. 👌
Yes please 😂😂
this is what we really want to see, forget your leg!! hahahaa joke, good luck mate
I am so sorry this has come your way, but I have to say your attitude and comments are so positive - the are remarkable and admirable. I wish you all the very best for as full and as swift as possible a recovery.
stuff the bike. I hope your leg gets better asap
Sounds like it’s healing well Paul. You’ll be ready for the better weather 😊
Hi Paul, glad to see you out of hospital and with a plan to get better and get back on your bike when you are able. Sounds as if you are in good hands, and will be great if you can get better without an operation. Keep the goal in your mind and you’ll be back cycling before you know it!
Hi... Yes... I'm doing as well as I can... Quite surprised myself to be honest at how much I'm doing all the right things! Long way to go yet.... But on the right track!
Goodness Paul, you were obviously standing in the wrong queue when the luck was handed out recently. This is a shocking state of affairs. All I can do is wish you the very best of luck going forward as you recover. Your exceptional positivity will carry you forward. All the very best.
Hi Norman.... Yes indeed.... And do appear to have been selected for a set of trials! But there are plenty in a worse state and I'm thankful for some incredible support from business community, friends, family and of course the UA-cam community. Just got to keep going, look at the present and make the most of it. Everything happens for a reason!
Hi just been to Norfolk, and thought about you when we went through sea palling . Hopefully you’ll soon be on that ebike 🙏
Cheers Kev... Did you take the bike?
No unfortunately, we just went up to see the seals . Take care
Glad you're home Paul. Let's hope for a speedy recovery.
Thank you Andrew. Another (good) update coming soon
Wishing you a speedy recovery, Paul. Hope the bikes ok too.
Thank you Paul... Tbh I've still not checked it! I'm concentrating as much as I can on resting.... Will be checking in due course though!
Blimey Paul, what an ordeal and none of your own making. It sounds like a good plan to recovery. Standing on your broken leg for xrays, ouch! I had the stomach injections following a flight back from Australia and suspect DVT . It turned out I did not have it, but it was a precaution. What fun! Keep smiling and looking forward to your Paul and Ian double act 😂
Cheers Martin... For sure standing on it wasn't an experience I'm keen to repeat lol.... Hopefully Ian popping up soon!
thats encouraging news
Thanks Dennis. Further update soon
Hi Paul, glad to see you're home and on the road to recovery. Hopefully avoiding having screws and plates inserted, just plaster of Paris and keep your leg up ..real old school !!. All the best mate.
Cheers Malc..... Had some good news yesterday... Video update soon
Brilliant that you are at home and have avoided surgery right now. The recovery starts here and you’ll be fit and ready for the better weather. Consider that indoor trainer though Paul, it will help and there are options other than Zwift😅
Cheers Neil.... Very begrudgingly I'm borrowing a trainer once I'm out of the cast just to help get things moving
I can see you and Roy down Wyndham Park with your nurses and e assist bath chairs 😂
This made me laugh out loud. It would be like a Carry On film!
Great to see a video update, keep Smiling and good luck with recovery and fingers crossed no need for surgery
Thank you Heidi! Good news update yesterday
I'm sure you're happy to be home. Be sure not to try to do too much too soon. Bones can be funny things. I hope you are ultimately able to avoid surgery. Take care of yourself. 😊 (At least, it's winter and you aren't looking out at warm sunny riding weather.)
Cheers... I'm being surprisingly good doing all the right things! Haven't even hobbled to check my bike yet!
get well soon mate, the human body is remarkably self healing, give it till Easter to go out riding imo
Cheers Paul. Yes..... Keen as I will be to get back on bike I will take it carefully
Good to see you are back home. Nothing like your own bed 😉 Best wishes for a speedy recovery 👍
Thank you!
Get well soon
Cheers David
Great to see you back home. Heal well .Thanks for all your videos take care👍
Thank you Chris.... Much appreciated
Glad to see you at home and recovering, Paul.
Thank you mate!
Glad you're home get well soon 🖖
Cheers Peter
Hello from near Lincoln how that leg
Hi Mike. I'm home now! One of the fractures has closed up a lot the other bigger one less so but OK. New video update!
Hi Paul, how’s things going ? By now I hope you’re home and feeling well 🙏
Sorry for delay... Yes home now... Recovery going OK
So sorry too here this 😢
Thank you
Get well soon sir
Thank you!
Oh no so sorry Paul, what a nightmare, it must be so frustrating. Fingers crossed it will happen soon as possible. ❤
👍
Must be annoying if each time you have to be nil by mouth. Fingers crossed for the 4th attempt at surgery.
Did you report the accident to the council or Highways Agency (whichever is responsible for the cycle lane)? It's worth getting it logged into the stats otherwise they will claim that the cycle lane is safe and that they don't have any records of any accidents on it.
Awww Paul, this is taking its time. Hope they get you sorted sooner rather than later and you can start the healing. Hang in there mate.
Hi Paul, this must be so frustrating these delays. Hope you get sorted very soon.
Reminds me of the old proverb: "Do you want to make God laugh? Tell him your plans." Get well soon mate. On the positive side, this will slow the job hunting plans!
Keep the spirits up Paul definitely frustrating waiting. I know how you feel I'm waiting for an operation on my back and been waiting 3 months being off my bike is mentally destroying, although I do the occasional 5km take care and look after yourself
Hang on in there Paul, very frustrating for you. The weather is rubbish so not missing to much on the road.
