Crazy idea here- what if America started manufacturing and producing whatever we are able to here in America like we used to, instead of outsourcing every single thing to China making them more wealthy and us even more dependent on them?
I’m all for it, but can the average American afford the extra cost of American-made goods? Labor and regulation costs are much higher in the U.S. Those have to be recouped through the price we pay. The cost may be offset some by reduced shipping costs, but the net effect is still higher selling prices. The root problem is that Americans buy based on cost, not quality. And they want their goods now, rather than save up to pay for quality goods. That’s why we have cheap goods from China and tons of credit card debt. It’s just the way it is. I can’t control it.
Are you ready to pay 10x as much for all those goods? Because that's what would happen if everything was made in the US. Manufacturing costs and wages are much lower overseas. People in the US expect a $15/hr min wage. The same wage in China is $1. The US, from a wage standpoint, can't compete with that. No American will work for $1/hr. And no American will pay $150 for a screwdriver. Which is why the 'make everything in America' is not a smart way to go. Edit: Just saw the post before mine, and 100% agree.

Not sure why people mention Yemen. Suez canal is in Egypt and controlled by Suez Canal Authority of Egypt. It operates under the Conventional of Constantinople stating all vessels may use it without distinction of flag. Also there are very few US flag cargo ships. You can easily look up what countries flag any vessel sails under.
There's a lot more to the Red Sea than the Suez Canal. This latest news is from the opposite end - drone and speedboat attacks on cargo ships, happening off the coast of Yemen. There aren't many US cargo ships because... look up "cargo ships flags of convenience". It's complex. In addition to the flag and itinerary, the people who supply intel to the attackers seem to check what company operates the ship, and who owns the ship, and which companies own those companies, which people sit on their boards... whatever info they can find about the ship. I'm sure the maritime insurance agencies have access to similar data, as do the shipping companies themselves, so they calculate risks, and decide to go around Africa instead of thru the Red Sea.

Humans want more land, other humans don't want them to take it. Racism prevents them reaching a compromise. Conflict has been going on for a long time. Some humans are trying to exert financial pressures in an attempt to break the deadlock. The manner of exerting pressure is poorly targeted. There isn't international support for their attempt. Escalating a decades old war onto a new international front isn't going to improve any aspect of Gaza conflict.
@@GizzyDillespee The attacks have been coming from the Bay of Aden entrance to the Red Sea for years. The difference is the attacks are less of a pirate nature and more like attacks of war with war grade weapons now being used. The only thing they are accomplishing by attacking commercial vessels carrying commercial goods is making everything cost more worldwide as the trip is now longer.
