Saved and following...can't believe there's no instructions for removing the items you did in the Official Owners Shop Manual...Thanks for a very comprehensive easy to follow video instruction!
Thanks, Tim, for sharing. As Mason from Masons ADV would point out, it’s best to use your tools from your bike’s tool bag that you take along with you .. even if you’re doing work inside your garage at home. That way you know you got all the right wrenches, sockets and screwdriver bits to do a tear-down out on the trail if need be. Great stuff Tim !
Hey Tim. I'm Tim, too. This was super handy. Right in the middle of taking off those exact parts, and really needed help. Perfect, clear, understandable. Thank you!
Hi Tim, Thanks so much for your videos. I know you no longer have yr KLR, but the knowledge and exprience you've passed on over the years is still relevant and much appreciated. Ride Safe. Regards from S Africa Clive
That was a great video! Thanks so much. Almost everyone has their videos as you described, "I've already gone ahead and removed..." . Very nice to see someone actually take us through removing the tank.
Very well done and timely for me. I will be installing some handlebar risers soon and I will need to remove the items that you did to get slack in my cables. Thanks again.
I just added 2" Rox risers to my KLR. You can get the extra cable length for the throttle by rotating it so the cables are on the bottom of the bars instead of the top. For the choke cable you need to move it from the front of the triple tree, to the back. You can fish enough slack out of the electronic cables by moving them around once you have the tank removed.
If you replace the front rubber blinkers or mounts, the upper fairing needs to come off. Reason enough to do a video? Good! please do the video. People need this. Thanks
Noticed you didn't mention a shim that goes between the upper and lower fairing at both Phillips head screws. My 2016 has them and first time I took off not knowing about them, took me about 20 minutes hunting for it after it dropped out.
Good eye and good point. Mine were missing when I bought the bike, so I've never had them. I think most older KLRs have them missing for the reason you stated. However, you are correct, there should be a spacer/washer there. Thanks for the comment and for watching.
Geeze i hope i can get my tank and fairings off with my dirtracks full crashbars on..I'm planning on wiring in some auxiliary lights but i sure don't wanna take those crash bars all the way off again..
Wanted to look at the spark plug. Followed these directions Unable to align left lower fairing to reinstall. Rubber nut for the bolt that attached to upper radiator came off. Don't know which way the rubber nut goes back in. Tried both ways and still can't get LL fairing aligned to replace. Thoughts
I noticed you did not remove left side lower fairing bolt 4:47. Apparently my 2016 bolt has loosened out and left with an empty hole. I'm trying to find out what size it may be. Would you know?
My bike was missing the vent tube when I bought it. I installed a piece of tubing and ran it down behind the engine and in front of the battery to vent out the bottom. Missing tank vents are a fairly common occurrence. Thanks for the question and for watching.
I need a vidieo on how to lower front forks n turn lower my dog legs on my 2002 klr-650 its too tall im tippy toeing it was fine for brotherinlaw but now i got it im 5'7" and struggling.any help appreciated.snooky pa
Here is a video link for the Rigid lights: ua-cam.com/video/O4tyI5s7v-A/v-deo.html Here is the link for the lowered front fender: ua-cam.com/video/SZTIJ4ZzaQA/v-deo.html As for the rear sub-fender, I don't have a video on that but it is a simple un-bolting and removal. I mounted the plate using a lighted license plate frame up on the upper fender just below the tail light. Thanks for the questions and for watching.
ok nice vid..I have a question does your handgards hit windscreen when you turn sharp and what front fender is that I want to do that to my klr so bad but don't know how to do it??? thanks
Shawn, The hand guards do not hit the windshield at full turn. However, if I had the Madstad screen tilted back all the way, it probably would. But the way I have it set, it works great. As for the front fender, here is a link to a video on that topic. ua-cam.com/video/SZTIJ4ZzaQA/v-deo.html Thanks for your comments and for watching.
Once installed, no, it should not move side to side. The tank will sit on the two rubber "pucks" on the frame. Make sure it is towards the front of the bike enough to slide onto the pucks. The two bolt holes in the back (rear) of the tank will line up. If it still moves around, check that the rubber pucks/disks have not fallen off the mounting points. That can happen. I hope this helps. If I missed your point, let me know. Thanks for the question and for watching.
I have 1 2011 I just purchased. it has a metal bracket on top of the front fender. Your front fender looks different. Is my fender different? And is the metal bracket aftermarket?
Bikemancody bock - My fender is an aftermarket and it has been lowered using the Eagle Mike fork brace. To the best of my knowledge the KLR (any year) did not come with a fender support bracket like you described. However, many owners have added such brackets to help the big stock fender be more rigid. Thanks for the comment and for watching.
Thank you. I have the eagle mike fork brace. Also just watched your Tusk Pannier Box review. Tons of good info. Think I may stick with the mediums for now.
Well, I don't know if there is a perfect tire, but I've been happy with the K60 Scouts. They have proven to be a good tire both on and off road. However, they are noisier, on road, than my previous 705s, but the improved off road performance is worth it.
Very helpful, just used this in my driveway. Cheers!

Thank you! Subscribed and will be watching more later.
Excellent, Thanks - Going to tackle installing a lower dash and want to run the wires securely and properly. Much appreciated.
That was a great video! Thanks so much. Almost everyone has their videos as you described, "I've already gone ahead and removed..." . Very nice to see someone actually take us through removing the tank.
Thank you for the comment and for watching.
Thank you Tim! I’ll be doing this surgery this week to rebuild my carb. I appreciate your help and support.
How did the carb work go? My bike would start but not stay running unless I kept giving it gas
Very well done and timely for me. I will be installing some handlebar risers soon and I will need to remove the items that you did to get slack in my cables. Thanks again.
Thanks for the comment and good luck with your project. Let us know how it went and if you were able to get enough slack from your stock cables.

thanks for the feedback Boomer. I hope to be adding a pair of the Rox risers soon.
Thanks for the visuals, I didn't know how to access the carburetor to clean out some water.
Great video Tim!
Another informative video ! A big THANK YOU!!
Agree on the sw motech. They're awesome!

Thanks for your time bud. Great vid!!!
Very helpful I'm a pretty handy but just got this KLR and always good to learn. Going to watch some more. Thanks
Thank you for watching James. If you are handy you will love working on the KLR. They are simple, strong, and reliable bikes.
Thanks for the video, great job. I'm going to add a PDM60 soon so this video sure does help.
I really like my PDM60. Thanks for the comment.
Very nice video thank you
Thanks for the comment Douglas. I'm glad you liked it.
Great video, thanks man.

Great video and very helpful!
Also, isn't that second fitting on the petcock a vacuum line?
Greg Truempy - Yes, there is a second vacuum line on the OEM fuel petcock. I have a non-vacuum fuel valve with just the fuel line.
Tim, did you ever do a video on removing the upper fairing? I don’t see one and assume you sold your KLR before you got to that, but wanted to check.
Thanks, very helpful video.
Thanks for the comment and for watching

very well done video.

Thanks mate very good
Thank you
@Tim2Wheels, where do you snake the vent hose? I kept it on when I removed the tank by accident. Does it just hang below frame? Any advice?
My bike was missing the vent tube when I bought it. I installed a piece of tubing and ran it down behind the engine and in front of the battery to vent out the bottom. Missing tank vents are a fairly common occurrence.
Thanks for the question and for watching.
NOTE! Oil Specs Sticker, is under / behind the Rear side panels.

The please explain your front lighting system, front fender lowering, and rear fender delete! How did you mount your license plate with new lights?
Here is a video link for the Rigid lights: ua-cam.com/video/O4tyI5s7v-A/v-deo.html

How did you wire it and is there a switch?
Thankyou
Berseker Zizer - Thank you for watching!
Are they phillips or jis?

When reinstalling the gas tank does it move side to side at all?
Once installed, no, it should not move side to side. The tank will sit on the two rubber "pucks" on the frame. Make sure it is towards the front of the bike enough to slide onto the pucks. The two bolt holes in the back (rear) of the tank will line up. If it still moves around, check that the rubber pucks/disks have not fallen off the mounting points. That can happen.

Omg I can't just pop off the dang seat with my key??
