    I popped into the shop on Thursday with the dodgy black minnow which you kindly glued up. Got three bass off the surface at Christchurch Harbour on a Patchinko early morning as you suggested and a couple of garfish at Hengistbury on the metals. Pretty chuffed, especially as no one I met was catching. Thanks for the tips. 👍🏻

      Hi Mark. I've always been a fan of the harbour on low water, I think a lot of people miss out by only fishing high. I normally get some really good gilts doing this, but only managed smaller ones this year. Definitely worth a go next year.

    Lovely sporting way to fish for Giltheads Tom, good video. They go well when they pick up stinger baits on a beachcaster with a 6oz leads. Agree with you using Chinus, perfect hook for them. Got bitten by a decent one this summer so I can vouch for the strength in their jaws!

    Do you think in a venue like Poole Harbour they could be targeted on lure or fly? I’ve caught baby ones in little backwaters before but wouldn’t mind catching one nearer 1lb. Great video!

    • @FishyTom
      @FishyTom  11 місяців тому +1

      Hi mate. My apologies, I genuinely thought I'd replied to this!
      I think Poole could offer a great chance at one on the fly or lure, plenty of scope to wade around in the shallows and getting into the channels where the bigger ones lurk. I'm planning on doing a bit more fly fishing this year, it's been far too long since I've done any! I'll hopefully get a chance to hit the harbour and have a go for these. Let me know if you fancy meeting up.
      Great channel by the way. Just had a little look, some really nicely put together videos. Keep up the good work.

      @@FishyTom no worries 😄 yeh I imagine crawling crab or shrimp flies along the bottom on sinking line could work, as long as it’s not too weedy.
      Thanks for the kind words, I’m hoping to do more when the days start getting longer, the Winter is hard for getting out regularly with family and stuff but in the Summer I can be out for a few hours before the rest of the family get out of bed 😄
      A meet up would be great! I’ve never fished that way before so a bit of local knowledge would be very helpful!
      Tight lines!

    • @FishyTom
      @FishyTom  Рік тому

      Hi mate. No, I wouldn't use braid for this. Although there's an argument that it could work, I'm just not a fan of fishing braid when bait fishing.

  • @davidburgess2354
    @davidburgess2354 Рік тому +1

    Another brilliant video! I assume that there are many points of access to this channel which, as you say, can be clearly seen on Google Earth. Would you say that the potential wading area from the Sandbanks/Evening Hill area is of a fairly uniform depth when trying to get within casting distance of the channel? Assuming that the channel is fishable/reachable only around low water do you find that it is possible to fish this way irrespective of the size of the tides or are heaps better and probably safer? I assume that on spring tides you would have to head back to shore earlier/quicker.

    • @FishyTom
      @FishyTom  Рік тому

      A middle tide is better, too big and the fishing window is too short, too small and it's a bit deep to wade! I would stress if you're going to do any wading like this, go down at big spring low and suss it all out. As you say, the depth is very uniform around sandbanks and evening hill, so I do feel safe when doing it, but I'd never take risks if I'm unsure.

    Great video. I’m of the belief that we have some of the best fishing in the country down here, with such a diverse species of fish to catch. We can target fish all year round, without ever leaving Dorset. But I maybe a tad biased though, but I do love our fishing 😂

    • @FishyTom
      @FishyTom  Рік тому +1

      No, I couldn't agree more! The variety of species and venue types we have is second to none. This time of year I struggle to decide what to do next, but only because there's too many options and I'm indecisive!

      I’m going to go for a couple of days/nights fishing and wild camping, but I can’t decide where. Either Southbourne past the promenade towards Hengistbury Head, or go down to Chesil Beach. I just need to choose between sand and shingle 😂
