- A behind the scenes look at the Balloons animation meme! Watch the meme here: • Balloons Animation Meme
Most of the reference footage I filmed myself doing the actions so yes that is me most of the time! Also the fursuit is mine and I made it myself! About 2 of the scenes I didn't use reference for. 2 scenes I used outside sources for the juggling and shuffle dance!
I did do a lot of rotoscoping initially and you can see that I followed my reference quite closely, which is how I was able to get such natural and realistic motion. Don't underestimate the power of reference!! Also! Rotoscoping is NOT cheating and it's a very useful tool! I traced over my footage and expanded the animation based on that. I also plan on releasing a video soon that shows more of the process behind what goes into a single scene so look out for that video soon!
Thanks so much for the love so far on the Balloons meme! Keep on watching and enjoying it and share it around!
I'm happy to answer any questions anyone has about the process of making the meme!
Software:
Adobe Animate for the animation
Adobe Premiere for editing

This is awesome!! I think a lot of artists are scared of using references because they think it's "cheating" or something but it's sooo helpful especially when you're animating the whole body. Keeping the body looking natural and balanced is hard! I think it's great that you're showing your process so other artists can look at this and be more open to using reference. it's a great tool
also im still rewatching this animation every single time it comes up on my twitter feed or youtube recommended help im addicted
Absolutely agreed! Reference is insanely helpful and I always stress for people to use it whenever possible because it's just so helpful. I always view it more as a helpful tool than "cheating." Professional animators film themselves for reference all the time! And I'm really happy that you're loving it! I really appreciate it!
@@YellowK9 I always thought it was cheating...wow....thx for this
@@YellowK9 oooo ok
:0
Omg you’re alive
@@Frost_Daddy wtf??
The “we can drink it into a funnel” reference is the most hilarious thing I’ve ever seen

It's amazing how to used real life references! People that act out an animation idea are pretty skilled to me- and honestly, it helps too! Because i either imagine it or act it out- or sometimes both!
GOSHHH SO GOOD! I felt it was either referenced or even rotoscoped the movements are so lifelike and expressive I’m absolutely mesmerised! Super fun seeing the process of it and it’s definitely one of the coolest animations you’ve done so far wowowow
Thank you so much!! That means a lot, I really love your work as well!
YESSSS ITS SO GOOD i could tell that you used a reference on the dancing it really upped the quality! I didn't anticipate that the rest of it had references either :0
this is so well made and another reason to use danding references for animation!! I LOVE THIS !!
you're so animated in your references, which I think explains a lot about how lively the final animation came out!! very interesting!! 💖
It looks so goofy /pos but it also adds so much spice to the animation, it's awesome!
this is so amazing! i don't think people realize referencing footage can be a real life saver! this is super smooth and one of my favorite animations! i love how fluid and bouncy it is! very eye pleasing :)! nice to see how ya used the fursuit to help with some movements n such!!
My absolute favourite animation meme right now I can't stop coming back! The animation turned out amazingly and I love how much fun the references also look, it's so cool to watch your process!! :D
Well that explains why the movement seems so natural!
I love your confidence in showing this footage. I could never even look back at the animation if I recorded myself dancing... heh.
I personally love the way they're dancing haha it's so goofy but like in a positive way :3
i LOOOOOVE this so much!!! seeing the process is so cool!!!! it makes me want to animate again 😂💞
I’m sorry- but 1:25 made me chuckle a bit😂 the reference just looks so silly if you had no context
Lol, the first ref and they way the tail moves was just perfect 👍
This is honestly very smart. I might consider trying this whenever I make more complex animations
As I’ve only ever dabbled a tiny bit with Flipnote Studio and never really wrapped my head around framerates, key frames, in betweens, and positioning markers, I see a lot of value in RL references, as they seem to assist very nicely in refining the positioning and timing.
Bro that funnel ref was just 👌
I am addicted to rewatching this
The walking reference killed me 😂
this is so epic! the talent to do this in real life, as well as actually turning it into animation is even better! definitely was worth the wait
0:36 FROM THERE I STARTED LAUGHING! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 SORRY
Yooo hellooo!
@@toffzee oh hi again!
👋😸
So interesting how you use real life references, I’ve always thought of doing that and I might tbh it sounds like a pretty good idea especially for starters too since you need lottts of reference before doing a walk cycle or an animation by memory. I liked how lively this turned out all your animations are veryyy smooth and fluid. (But the references were so funny lmao-) anyway good animation!
Honestly I do this to for all my memes whenever I try without it, it seems harder to make the animation it’s really cool to see other people do it, for a while I thought I was the only one!
(If anyone wondering this isn’t my main account)
I love reference footage it's always so goofy
WHY THE HELL HAVEN'T I USED MYSELF AS MY OWN REFERENCE WHAT HAVE I BEEN DOING THIS IS SUCH A GOOD IDEA???
I was thinking about using irl refs for a dance animation but I thought it was weird so I didn't do it. Now I'm definitely gonna do this!
ur fursuit is so cool i didnt know u had one!! its rlly good to use references like this
I love how the references footage is so funny but makes so much sense. It's awesome. I tried this out in 2020 but haven't since. Maybe I will again! Amazing animation btw lol, got me inspired
Omg thanks for behind the scenes. Honestly this is my favorite furry animation and I've been in the scene for 17 years.
This ain't even reference even more, this is rotoscoping! Great Job!
I personally wouldn’t assume someone was doing rotoscope, the reference looks much different from the sketch
its so nice to see someone using their own movements as reference, I always feel so weird trying to do it myself even though I know it could help me immensely.
IT LOOK GOOD, EVEN THE REFERENCE IS GOOD
I keep rewatching this animation because of how amazingly smooth it is. Your use of reference was perfect! The movements look SO good while also not looking awkward/jarring or traced or anything. Fits your style perfectly! So so good!
I just wanted to say that I was the 4.000th like
Very nice vid btw, I love how you use references instead of guessing the movements
Oh wow! A fellow young animator! Your work is amazing, keep it up!
imagine there WAS a reference for the rocket scene…
Not gonnna lie, seeing someone else using referencing so much is so awesome, it makes me feel a lot more confident in puttintg a lot of effort in building my refs up
I love the drinking part
I cannot tell you how many times ive rewatched this animation its so fluid and good and seeing the process is awesome!
Yo I LOVE seeing your process!! Shooting reference often feels so goofy so kudos for being brave enough to share!
Oh my gosh this is so good-
BUT ITS ALSO SO FUNNY WITH SOME REFERENCES- my lord this is the best
I ALWAYS WANTED TO KNOW HOW YOU DID, it's amazing thank you so much for sharing your process!!
YOO this is so cool! I'll definitely be using live reference for my next animation!
I love the fact you used references!!!!
The amount of work put into this is amazing
Can we appreciate her getting into it fr
me pretending to be in an animation meme:
THIS IS AMAZING! I've never seen someone use irl footage to make animations like this
I AM SO GLAD U USED TERIYAKI DANCING FOR THIS AWGH THAT MAKES ME SO HAPPY
Damnnn that’s actually pretty well animated-
oh my god I'm laughing my ass off at the funnel BBFDGFDFCVBCBHHJJHHJHJVNN
THIS IS SO GOOD
I'M JUST AMAZED
No wonder the animation felt so real :0
HOW DO YOU HAVE THE PATIENCE TO DO THIS LOL?🤣
Ahhh I love the sketch so much! It’s interesting to see the skeleton of an animation.
OH MY GYATTTTTTT!!!! YOU’RE SO PRETTY OMGFFFFF!! AND I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO MAKE WEIRD ACT IRL FOR MY ANIMATIONS!! NEWWWWW SUUUUBBBBBB❤❤❤❤ ❤❤
IDC ABOUT THE REFERENCE! YOU ARE BEYOND BEAUTIFUL! ♥️♥️♥️♥️🥰🥰🥰
I saw The refernce you used from Teriyaki’s dance and i think it was cool😊
I thought I was the only one who did I this to animate lol!! I love this
I can't stop watching this
This is so incredible but also hilarious i love it sm
Whaaaat you mean you didnt get on an actual rocket as a reference and animated that part free hand? Incredible! 😜
I love the fursuit!! And the way you did referencing is so creative!!
Thats looks so nice and fun! Your animations are so cool!! I love the vibes of them
Omg u look just like me irl
I love this. Would be awsome to see more like this.
It came out flipping amazing!!!
Cool learning about how it was made!!!
Love this merch!
i love this so much - i record myself as reference too for some animations!
This is so great!!! Thank you now I know what to use for reference…. Myself!! Thanks!!
THIS IS SO UNIQUE OMG
damn this is amazing! and you put so much work into it, respect :0
To the beginning animators: See? They use a reference for pretty much everything
References can help a bunch!!
You are so talented!
this animation is great!
Those moves reminded me of Teriyaki !! I knew it was familiar lol
YOOOO YOU USED TERIYAKI AS A REFERENCE?! THATS AWESOME!!!!!
_omg the teriyaki reference!!! thas crazy cool brooo!!¡!_
This is amazing
I love yoru fursuit to!

OMG it's amazing!!
Literally yesterday I was trying to convince my brother you weren't a furry lmao
Motivation restored!
THE FURRY 😭 Also who else was cracking up at 0:37🤣🤣🤣
OMGGGGG MY FAVORITE VIDEO!!!!!
i was wondering if you used irl references for this, since the movements looked so natural! its awesome and you did an amazing job! thanks for showing the process :]
AmAaaazinG
hahaah the knowledge are coming into my veins aaAHAHAHAHA
thank you c:
Do you usually use irl reference footage for your animations? Or was it just this one because it had so many dances?
Either way, amazing work!! The character has a lot of weight to them while dancing and it makes it feel real. Keep it up!!
It really depends on what I'm animating! If it's something simple or obviously something that can't be filmed, I don't use reference. But if there's an opportunity to film reference I absolutely will!
This is so cool wtf
This is great! Honestly if this was me I’d be embarrassed to show my progress due to anxiety of being judged.
Also how old are you? Hope this doesn’t come off as weird you look young and seem very talented for your age (: age certainly doesn’t matter about talent always but it’s still something cool to acknowledge
That's definitely understandable! I'm 24!
@@YellowK9 WHATT?? I thought you were like 15 :O
@@YellowK9 you an I kinda look the same (if you had your hair down maybe lol)
I also wear glasses but mostly contacts, and hey, Your animations are absolutely STUNNING!! :3
So cool!
This is so cool
Omg this is amazing!!
Very cute and cool ❤️
Idk but choreography is important on every kind of animation. You are god if u dont use reference
Amazing
Phenomenal
Omg this is so inspiring aa
