In Bengali, we call it তাল or taal. The younger the fruit is, the softer and more juicier the flesh is. The younger ones often have a sweet liquid enclosed inside and we get very IRRITATED if the liquid accidentally leaks out while cutting out the capsule like flesh😅
In the ripened fruit, you won't find any capsule like flesh. Instead it's now a VERY hairy seed with a very thick yellow/orange pulp outside. On Janmashtami ( birth of lord Krishna, which is in September this year), we extract that pulp and make fritters by adding banana, flour and sugar to it. It has a distinct smell and a slightly bitter flavour when fried and that's exactly what makes them MOUTHWATERING ❤❤❤❤❤

The white layer on top of the jelly part is highly nutritious and has medicinal value. And inside the jelly part there will be some liquid which will be very tasty too! So we eat all together which gives a different taste all together!

Kallu is yet another alcoholic fermented drink collected from the same tree.

In west bengal the fruit is known as Tal 😊

Don't call it as weirdest fruit it's an emotion for us from (south India)
The actual name for this fruit comes from the Thamizh language which is called as பனைப்பழம்(panaippazham). There are even fruits inside the orange fleshy fruit and that is the 3 small white fruits which is called the நுங்கு(Nungu). Both the orange flesh & nungu are edible. There is more to this tree. You can even get பதநீர்(pathaneer) which is the sweet fresh nector from it's tree's branches. The pathaneer can also be boiled until most evaporation takes place to create something magical known as பனைக்கருப்பட்டி(panai karupatti) known as raw palm sugar. When the pathaneer is left to ferment by itself up in the tree, it is called as கள்ளு(kallu) which has a slight natural alcoholic taste to it. When the fruit sprouts, it first produces the பனக்கிழங்கு(panakizhankgu) which is panai potato. This is also edible. All these names are available only in the Thamizh language. Come to Thamizh Naadu(tamil naadu) & you will see 1st hand what the full traditional ways Thamizh farmers use this Tree for.
you forget the hastag #done claim
Cutting and taking the fruit out is a talent

Kelapa laut, or ‘buah tar’ in my local dialect. For me, it’s childhood fruit.
The best part is to suck it from the flesh or drink the liquid with a straw. You never wanna cut too much of the top and waste spilling the liquid.
Because the liquid is very little (unlike coconut water, which you can drink aplenty from just one fruit), it becomes more valuable than the flesh.
Oh ini buah tar ya mba ?
In Thailand, we gently peel it off to taste the juice in the jelly, which is very sweet.
If you remove that full shape of fruit it is a shape of heart
that, sir, is a cleaver... not a machete
In kannada we call it "heni Benda". There are fruit sellers here selling it in open markets where they cut the fruit and gouge out its "eyes" And hand it to you in a paper plate. Your surge of serotonin starts even before you eat the fruit when you see the vendor gouge out the "eyes" using a special technique pulling them out clean. Really calming on a sunny day.
