This dude is way more likeable than the average patient on this show. It's also really nice to see someone who actually seems to care about their spouse.
I got put off when he was almost screaming in pain from his wife and sister struggling to shift him around to clean him or whatever. You'd think crippling pain would be enough incentive to at least keep your weight at a number to where you could still move.
I’m a home health care assistant and I went into an individuals home yesterday, I heard your voice and we INSTANTLY bonded over you and my 600lbs life, I’ve never met anyone else who watches your videos now I talk about them nearly every morning!
Abys wife had to work, that's why she was not at the hospital with him. He was working too, before he went to the hospital. So someone has to pay for the apartment, car, health care, and ect. I am sure she felt horrible, she couldn't be with him. She may even have had to take on more hours to pay for everything. I think she really does love him.
I respect that unlike most of the people on the show, he is working and not living off the taxpayers! And good for her for also working instead of just drawing a government check as his "caregiver".
She's a saint. The US is pretty awful when it comes to disability benefits, and oftentimes they revoke said benefits if the patient's spouse is the breadwinner. Abi's wife is working two jobs on top of being his caretaker, just to keep them afloat. She deserves all the accolades.
A friend of mine is paralyzed since 14. Now she is over than 70. She worked, drove a car, married, had a daughter, now she is a grandmother. She lives in Italy, her daughter with family in Austria. From now and then she and her husband travel from Italy to Austria (she is there now). Nothing ever stopped her. Not even cancer, years ago. She is a real warrior.
@@DharmaInitiate-qo4nythese days plenty of people with lower limb paralysis get the opportunity to drive due to adapted vehicles They tend to be automatic vehicles that are adapted so the driver can control braking and acceleration via hand controls rather than the usual foot pedals 😊

He has a public facebook page with frequent updates (like using public transportation for the first time!) He's crushing it with that smile on his face
Every time Sean drops a bit of more lore “hit a telephone pole going 100mph” “had to get rescued by a helicopter(?)” etc I’m more convinced we need a documentary or something
If I recall, Brenda has two jobs and two dogs and Facetime. No time to visit. Abi is a sweetheart. I'm with you, Sean, this is a man who will get 'er done.
I just HAVE to say that I adore it when Sean points out a dog lol. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of hearing, “aww puppy!” I also want to highlight just how wonderfully supportive and kind this community is. I have only ever seen encouragement and sympathy for those who need it. PS: Instead of a fried banana you need to try a fried plantain! They’re sooo good!
The wife works and someone needs to look after the fur babies. Why are people so harsh judging a spouse because she is not visiting? It seems they are happy with their marriage, so why do we feel it our business to criticize??🙄
Seriously, it seems like one of the healthiest relationships I’ve seen on the show. They trust each other to be apart for a while. I think we’re all just jaded from watching so many episodes of cheaters, neglect, and blatant enablers.
Plus it’s a 4 hour drive! A lot of non Texans think “oh austin to Houston, no problem”. And now they are down an income unless he is working from the hospital
His wife had limited PTO and used it to take care of him during her work hours. This is why I think she couldn't visit when he was in the hospital. They are still a happy couple and Abi is making great progress
That's what my mom had to do when my dad was hospitalized after a stroke. She saved her PTO for when he came home and needed her help, not when he was being taken care of in the hospital.
Had a friend who fell off a balcony at 28. Suffered broken neck. Became paralyzed from mid chest down. Had partial use of his arms/hands. He got around in a wheelchair. He got a job in retail. Never became overweight. He passed away at 50 because the paralysis affected his lung capacity. I understand tragedy. It’s really sad to see this. I hope this video ends with him making it to his goal! Ok back to watching.
I was T-boned, into the drivers side door, by a car that ran a stop sign going about 60 mph, through a 30 mph in-town intersection. If I was not driving a Volvo, the impact would have killed me I broke my neck (3-level c-spine fusion,) crushed lumbar (six surgeries, including multi-level fusion and spinal cord stimulator,) complex leg fractures (intermediary rodding,) and lots of soft tissue injuries. First, I keep myself a little underweight. Since I sometimes require assistance, I want to stay light as possible to less burden. It also is best for me to maintain as much mobility as possible. No pity. I am fine This was in 2009, so I’ve had a long time to successfully navigating life with spinal cord injury. Last, look at Abi’s face. He has such a beautiful face. If he loses enough weight, he will be beautiful. He seems like a nice man, too. I want him to win, so, so badly!
@@JaimeMesChiens You are a very strong person who will look for the joy in every experience. Admirable. I'm not sure I would be the same. I got VERY lucky once on a NJ turnpike. I had upgraded my car to a larger, heavier model the DAY BEFORE. In the ER, the doc was looking for me, the driver. Said everyone was hurt, but not injured. A car had a similar accident at that spot that morning and nobody made it. He told me that I did a great job.
YAY, ABI! BTW, I believe Abi was a sound engineer for the ballet, NOT a dancer, seeing as how he never trained as a ballet dancer and it takes a decade or more to train to become a professional ballet dancer; however, he did go to college to study sound engineering.
Shhhhhh, no, how dare you ruin my mental image of this wonderfully happy man dancing ballet!!! 😭😭😭😭🤣😂 His enthusiasm is contagious, and Brenda is just incredible!!!! It stinks that she had to work through the show months though. But not many families who are working can take months off at a time to go move to Texas. I guess if you're on assistance it might be a little bit easier to transfer which state you're getting assistance from? I wish them the best and Hope the two of them have a very long and happy life together!
The woman who ran the red light should be obliged to watch this video for a week non-stop so she sees how she ruined Abi's life, and too bad if she falls asleep. A pail of cold water will fix that.
No one's a perfect driver but to cause such a bad injury, she didn't just bump him. It was a hard hit, and she had to be moving way too fast and not paying attention. Put down the phones too folks. Pull over to text. It's not worth yours and/or someone else's life(s). No one is a perfect driver, but we can all try to do better and understand how devastating a moment's distraction can be. ❤ Be safe out there folks.😊

I recently helped a neighbour, who needed a king-single hospital bed, source one by contacting all the hospitals in a 150km radius. He could not afford a new one, but fortunately a hospital about 60kms away donated a surplus bed. He is thrilled & it has helped him immensely. There are good people & organisations out there - you just have to look & ask. 😊 Best wishes from Australia 🇦🇺 ❤
Brenda strikes me as a very loving, caring woman. It never bothered me that she didn't accompany Abi to the hospital. I never saw it as her needing a break (though I certainly would not blame her if she did take some time for herself), but instead, she was always working toward their dreams of a better life together and she knew Abi was in good hands with Dr Now and the hospital staff.
Happy Indigenous Peoples Day! I was gonna ask, where the Cree are from (I know Canada generally, but where specifically). Might as well ask where the Cherokee originally were also. I hope you have a wonderful day yourself 💐✌️🌄❤️
Happy Indigenous people day to everyone ❤❤❤ No offense but you guys need way more than 1 day. at least a month or more imo. have the very best day ever 🎉❤🎉
I really like Funtie Times series on the financial cost of obesity, people send in stories with their food and other costs before and after weight loss or recovering from BED and it’s almost always less expensive to lose weight and eat healthy. Really helped me break free from the fat acceptance talking points and look at the facts in my own bank account. Now I use cash if I buy food on binges and if I go out with friends, so any money I don’t spend on food equals extra to spend on my friends. A great built in reward and motivator!
Seems like Texas has a lot of the shows on lock. I am a nurse and had a 700 pound patient before. He was about 32. Never got up or left the house. The entire neighborhood took care of this man.
Not making fun of this situation, but the way you said that made me think of the show Cops. I used to call it the Pierce County Show (WA state)😂 Because it was always Tacoma, Spanaway, Lakewood, Puyallup, etc😂😂😂 It was one of those things always on when I was at work.
Sending giant hugs to Sean's Mom and Dad... He was obviously a handful and they deserve a big thumbs up because they weathered all of the stress and still raised a stand-up human being!!!
I have a colleague who described boys like Sean (and my boy and her boy) as sausages. In the end they turn out great. They’re satisfying and tasty. But no one outside the factory wants to know how they’re made! 😂
@@PatC.Oh yes. I told my oldest all the time that I can't wait til he has kids. He will be a great dad but at least he will know some of what he put me through 🤭 He was ruthless and had no fear whatsoever. I used to thank God every year on his birthday for helping me keep him alive another year 😂
I would have loved to have had a PT like that guy, I always ended up with petite women. Not knocking their knowledge or work ethic, but I'm 5'10", I understand trying to send female PT's to female patients, but in my case that extra hight and strength would have been useful.
This guy was such a great watch! He had a lot more holding him back physically than a lot of other people featured on this show, but his attitude was so much better than so many other people’s. He didn’t argue with Dr. Now and didn’t refuse the therapy. Dr. Now is such a caring doctor, too. He is definitely someone who was meant to be a doctor.
I feel like this couple's income has them squarely stuck in a crack in the system; especially in Texas. Meaning they make too much to get medicaid, and not enough to afford insurance. So I think that the medical care Abi is getting is exactly the blessing they need. Granted, I'm only around 40 mins in.
Yeah, that's a fair point. I was in that spot for a good while when I was younger. Now I'm poor enough for medicaid (yay? lol) but even they can be pretty awful about providing things. He could be on medicaid and still not be getting things like PT and home healthcare. I know I've tried for PT and gotten denied multiple times. They don't wanna pay unless they absolutely have to. Either way, our healthcare system sucks hard. It feels almost third-world when I hear what my European friends get.
I think because the dogs can smell that infection it would make them only more protective of their owner because they know he is sick. I don’t think it bothers them the way it bothers us. Such unconditional love and acceptance, sometimes having a pet is a game changer.❤❤❤
Plus, what stinks to us is not what stinks for dogs. One of my dogs dug up a side of venison my neighbor buried because it was rotten. It was every bit as disgusting as you can imagine. Maggots and everything. My dog (long haired!) rolled in it after he exhumed it. He was so happy! 😱🤢

Ikr! I'm grateful I was no longer obese when I was hit by a car, I think that helped when I was flung into the snow -- I was light enough for the snow to cushion my fall. I was bruised all over, of course, especially my butt where the bumper had hit me; but nothing was broken, thank God!
Sean, you have referred to your kidneys shutting down as your wake up call and I directly relate to you when you say it because I swear i was smoking cigarettes ( minimum a pack a day) for 52 years. So, last month on May 28th which would have been my mother's 91st birthday I did just that...i quit!! Im still quit and i don't cough all the time anymore. I don't cough at all. Abyi working whilst impaired reminded me of when I volunteered with the police 15 years back. I remember meeting an officer who lost his sight through service and he managed calls and advised. I learnt a lot from him and felt so inspired as he showed me his disability didn't stop him doing a job he loved plus his dog was also an ex police dog and was huge but an absolute puppy who would lay on my feet under the desk whilst I learnt from the officer.❤ Also totally seperate but does anyone know 'Thor' the pysical therapist number because I think I have some kinks in my back that require his expertise over here in the UK😂😍
Got here in less than two minutes this time😊. This guy is literally STUCK! All that weight with any spinal issues just makes things that much worse. So glad you did this one Sean. Thank you 🌻🦘
Wife could be waiting for the need to have her take care of him. Remember that it could be because she can't get a leave with pay. Benefits issues, etc. Most of the shows are of people who don't work. These two work.
Not everyone can skip out on work for months and abandon their home responsibilities like pets, bills... And insurance and the show can cover his transport and care, but she could be stuck with all those costs that they likely couldn't afford. If they had that kind of extra cash, they could have hired someone to help with his care.
I lived hurricane María. It was the most horrible thing we have endured. Thousands of people died afterwards due to lack of basic services. No water meant unhealthy and unhygienic conditions. No power meant no refrigeration for insulin or breathing machines. Add a 90 degree heat into the mix and you have people specially elderly and disabled dying left and right. So I know what he meant when he talked about his father passing away before the hurricane. It was horrible 😢.
Abi had a great mind set. Even after the car accident. I hope he gets out of that bed and lives his life to the fullest. Great video Sean😊 looking good and funny as always . I really enjoy your videos. Looked up and update on Abi. He can walk with a walker but mainly uses a wheelchair. He is getting out of the house. And he is grateful for the 600lb life show to get him where he is today😊
Eating disorders and physical disabilities go together fairly commonly! It's a less acknowledged side of being disabled, but as someone who suddenly became disabled just like Abi, my sudden bed bound and wheelchair bound state led me to a horrible cycle of Ana - trying to have a feeling of control over my body, and BED/bulimia - comfort eating until I was sick because I felt so depressed and bored being able to do nothing all day. After years of physical rehab and LOTS of therapy I'm doing better now but whenever my illness flares up I always find it hard to keep a handle on my ED too. Sorry for the ramble lol , it's just an issue for disabled people that not many people know about but is VERY common!
Stay strong Macy - ED's are awful - it takes a lot of therapy & a strong will to overcome them - you can do it! Thinking of you, sending love & best wishes from Australia 🇦🇺 ❤
We had a paralyzed patient once who was very obese and during the time she was in the hospital, she lost a huge amount of weight in a month. And it was all because she couldn't get the food that she wanted and was custom too. But it was hell trying to take care of her. We had to be 5-6 people in the beginning. His wife is feeding him to an early grave with feeding him all that food.
This man has NOT had the medical support he AND his family need. Two ladies should not have to lift/turn him to keep him clean. They need a professional caregiver. He obviously needs better pain control and does he have a physical therapist? This man is being neglected by the health care system. He needs a social worker/advocate....I'm angry on his behalf.
My guess is he either has state health insurance or some raggedy private insurance. Either way, insurance companies are a nightmare. I have severe fibromyalgia and have tried to get PT over and over and I get denied. They will look for every avenue to not pay for things despite having plenty of money (more the private insurance than the state medicaid of course). Our healthcare system is a mess!

oh god, my back injury in 2020 had me put on so much weight. I am scratching and crawling my way back into health now - 82lbs down as of today. I never took my mobility for granted again. If there is an opportunity to walk, or take the stairs, or take the long way, or park in the back, I am thankful for it.
I think the reason Abi's wife did not visit is because she works everyday to support both of them. And I am guessing just buying extra gasoline for the car would be a hardship. I have known people with these same concerns when their wife or husband was in the hospital for a long stay.
I don’t think he took ballet. He worked in a theater that produced ballet performances. I think he meant basically it’s like a person who didn’t care for country music , and got a job at a country music radio station and ended up growing to like it. At least that’s my understanding.
I see a lot of nurses commenting. I give you guys so much credit. About 12 years ago, I did an accelerated 2nd degree to get a Bachelors in Nursing in 12 months. It was a very intestine program. Hi Sean, drop foot is a nerve issue, pressure on the sciatic nerve means you have no control over moving your feet, they are not in a fixed 'pointed' position, its being unable to control movement. About cauliflower (my favorite vegetable) parboil it which means cook it for about 3 minuted in boiling lightly salted water and then drain it. Drop it into a pan of hot extra virgin olive oil, seasoned with fresh sliced garlic, kosher salt, red pepper flakes and coarse ground pepper. Then add minced fresh rosemary. Cook it until it is still somewhat, but too too, firm and enjoy. And if you are low carb and not keto, you can add it to a single or double serving of pasta like gemelli.Let it all cook together for a minute or two. Then tell me you don't like it.
"The main thing holding me back from making good choices is that they are more expensive" He says after asking for 3-4 boxes of cookies. Doctor Now would have a lot of fun with that excuse.
I got a large bag of salad and a bottle of diet salad dressing for about $7.00. A box of Chips Ahoy was also $7.00 (I didn't buy those). Yes the meat is expensive but I buy chicken breast and you don't have to buy chicken breast. Buy the thighs and just take off the fat. People also say they get fast food because they're tired after work. I used to like to just eat crackers out of the box because I was too tired to make something to eat. (But I used to drink after work then too LOL) But that salad is just as easy. Pour it into a bowl and put some dressing on.
@@donnagelina8548 It's also important to remember that those cookies get binged, which means you are buying them way more often than the chicken. As a formerly 400 lb person I can guarantee those cookies didn't last more than 2 days max.

I am only 5 feet so yeah, I need to be 110 lbs.

Her not going to the hospital with him. Is probably because it was during the covid thing. I needed an ambulance due to my hip dislocating. My husband was disallowed to go to the hospital . I had to call him when I was discharged. He was not allowed to visit when I had hip surgery during the covid "thing".
My daughter and i lived in the pediatric ICU for over 9 months during lockdown. Since she was a minor, i was the only one allowed to be with her. When we were told she was passing away, they let our family come and say goodbye. Thankfully she’s still here and is fighting everyday. In Puerto Rico, a deep fried banana is a common treat. Beans and rice, well, a LOT of Latino people eat it as a normal meal (some every day, others not so much) and rice is a huge staple on the dinner table of many Latin people, especially in Mexico and Spain. I myself love beans and rice. Pinto beans, if cooked right, are great with rice and mix them together with scrambled eggs and omfg you can't get enough. Seriously, it seems like one of the healthiest relationships I’ve seen on the show. They trust each other to be apart for a while. I think we’re all just jaded from watching so many episodes of cheaters, neglect, and blatant enablers.
Other obnoxious people on this show can learn from these 2

Healthy food may be expensive but bad health is MUCH more costly.
My understanding is that it's a matter of paying more now, or paying more for the rest of your shortened life.

They will look for every avenue to not pay for things despite having plenty of money (more the private insurance than the state medicaid of course). Our healthcare system is a mess!

Love chicken breast and extra firm tofu and turkey breast and loads of salads!
His attitude was so refreshing and bright in this episode. He’s a man who really knew he wanted to make a big change in his life and he really put his energy and mind into it! He should be so proud of himself 🎉
We Puerto Ricans are resilient people. Hang in there brother ✊🏼 we rooting for you 🇵🇷
Thanks Sean!! Perfect to listen to in the car today on my way up to the bridge in Michigan!!! Don't worry eyes on the road..

I do the same. 😊
That sounds so wonderful. Gotta try it. Fortunately I love all veggies. Jax 70 in Hawaii 🌴🌺
Yum! Thanks 😊❤ Best wishes from Australia 🇦🇺 ❤
27:14 I bet that jar is Eucerin, I used that stuff a LOT when I was obese. The thick kind is great as a skin protective cream, it's really soothing.
"The main thing holding me back from making good choices is that they are more expensive" He says after asking for 3-4 boxes of cookies. Doctor Now would have a lot of fun with that excuse.
Exactly, cookies, chips etc aren't cheap. Buy chicken.
I'm so tired of that excuse. Buy less cookies and use that money to upgrade the rest!
@@donnagelina8548 It's also important to remember that those cookies get binged, which means you are buying them way more often than the chicken. As a formerly 400 lb person I can guarantee those cookies didn't last more than 2 days max.
@@Kelga80 Oh yes! Sweets are my weakness and when I'm "off track" I can eat half the box at one time. But when I was younger, in my 20s when I didn't even know anything about eating disorders (this was back in the 80s) I could come home from work and eat 5 candy bars in one sitting. And I was only about 150 lbs. then. I ended up getting my weight to stay around 105-125 for most of my life, but now I'm more than 150 and trying to lose it! I am only 5 feet so yeah, I need to be 110 lbs.
I’ve not seen the end yet but this man’s positivity is inspirational. He’s gone through so much, sure the obesity before his injury was self inflicted but the way he managed after the car crash was great.
I wish this guy the best! I know the pain of recovery from a car accident! I went thru one in 2020.Oh, how it hurt! I hope this guy gets well and lots of help!
I didn't know Thor work as a Physical Therapist 😂 41:45
Her not going to the hospital with him. Is probably because it was during the covid thing. I needed an ambulance due to my hip dislocating. My husband was disallowed to go to the hospital . I had to call him when I was discharged. He was not allowed to visit when I had hip surgery during the covid "thing".
$$$$$$$$ covId
I forgot about that (how could I lol). Plus she most likely had to work as well.
If it was during covid, everyone would have been wearing masks.
My daughter and i lived in the pediatric ICU for over 9 months during lockdown. Since she was a minor, i was the only one allowed to be with her. When we were told she was passing away, they let our family come and say goodbye. Thankfully she’s still here and is fighting everyday. I felt very upset for the adult side of the hospital because even if you’ve been married 50 years, you couldn’t be with your spouse. Even when they were dying.

the best part about being in an eating disorder residential facility is that i’m always somewhat early to sean’s posts 💪🏽

Great story Sean...
Abi was so very lucky to have never gotten any blood clots while he layed in the bed those seven years not walking any.
Years ago back in 1989 my cousin was 20 yrs old and he was in a bad car wreck caused by ice on the road, he ended up being paralyzed from the chest down, two months later a blood clot went to his heart and killed him.
Blood clots are so dangerous.
I wish Abi all the best, he seems to be a really great guy.....
I was in a coma 4 weeks after respiratory failure and i lost mobility too. And had one foot drop foot. I put a foot brace on it. Which helped so much. And it returned to some what normal. Learned to walk , eat and talk all over again. Still have respiratory and mobility issues. But getting better. Been a year and half. Still working on it. It takes a long time.
(Beans and rice is also a poor man's food as well. Easy to make and will keep you stuffed for days. I usually do that when I'm low on food in the house)
Sounds like a great way to eat on a budget.
You can pretty much include the Carribean. My family is from Jamaica and "rice and peas" is a staple as well as fried plantains.
Making me hungry
@@aallen9287 rice and peas sound good

Hey Sean, thank you for the upload. My uncle sadly had a seizure and went into a coma and passed away yesterday and I've been having a very hard time. Your humor is something I really needed to give me comfort and just a distraction, thank you so much

I lived in Vieques, an island about 8 miles from Puerto Rico for 7 years. You don't want to be fat there for sure!! There's not much but fried food and heat. I'm thin and I was laying on a tile floor with frozen peas on my back. Oh and I was in the eye of Maria and no electricity for months was unbearable.
i used to visit vieques all the time as a kid. so beautiful, would love to go back
Brenda probably needed to stay home to work, avoid any type of enabling, and last but not least cleaning and disinfecting that home.
His name is pronounced Obbie - O like Octopus. Abi is short for Abimael... Please don't get mad, it's just an FYI. I really enjoy your work on these videos and I want to see you succeed is all.
Thank you for the pronunciation.
I didn’t think it was “Abbie”.
I was thinking it was “Ahhbie”.
✌️😎
It's wild because everyone in the episode is mispronouncing it. Too bad someone didn't correct everyone and inform them of what his name actually is.
Thank you. Got it.😊
@@christysivleyI do the same with my name. It doesn’t bother some people if their name is mispronounced. And it bothers some others but they’re tired of correcting people lol
His family didn’t call him Obbie, either, so ?

Best wishes to Abi and his wife, what a lovely loving couple and he is such a positive guy. Wishing you both every happiness. xx
The sweet fried bananas are called maduros and the unsweet ones are called tostones
these videos really make me realize my health and the importance of taking care of your body….. i need to lose a lot of weight and watching these videos helps motivate me… thank you for doing these Sean!!!!
Clappin’ for Cheesecake! 😂🤣😭
You do know there's a difference between "repossessing" cars and "refinancing" them, right?
It's so nice seeing one of Dr Now's patients in such a difficult situation and yet getting himself a job to help his wife out as though it's just expected, instead of allowing his significant other to physically care for him, be the breadwinner and the main decision maker in their lives. A great couple.
Thanks dear Sean. I love watching this vids. Especially with your comments. Dry humor 😁
❤ From the Netherlands ❤
Hi Netherlands from California!!
Abi is maybe the nicest bloke we've seen so far.
Seems the break with Brenda was positive & his mum was lovely too.
Looking forward to the WATN! Cheers Sean.
Seeing all the good Dr N does for people makes it so hard to believe his ex wife saying he was abusive. She really raked him over the coals back then, said awful things about him and nearly bankrupted him. I mean seriously! Only a good person/Dr. will come to your home when you can't get out. I think he's awesome❤
well he could be different at home and while not being filmed. he seems to work a lot. but do I trust an ex not to lie, nope. I like him
He may appear great in tv but you never know what goes on behind closed doors. Not saying I believe the ex but you never know either
I have no opinion on that because I don’t have the facts and I feel like more people should learn to do the same. I’m not vilifying either side, but I like dr. Now’s attitude with patients and how he helps so many. Who knows what happened in their relationship but I never agree with how divorces aren’t equal in separating assets.
He’s a hundred years old. You have no idea how he was 40 years ago. The court agreed with the wife.
Maybe she was overweight??
