This is why I am mostly a sound hunter...all those VID's were all over the place.

Great live comparison Andrew! The D2 looks pretty sweet. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Hi Andy, thank you for the all of the work it takes to make these videos. I like the setup of Deus 2, Apex and Manticore for this testing. I don’t understand the setup for the Legend with 2 tones but with ferrous rejected? That pretty much takes away the iron grunts that were also happening on the Manticore, Apex and a little on Deus 2 and contributed to the “weird responses” that you mentioned in the video. Personally, in iron/salt mineralization I would recommend running at least the G discrimination pattern and Pitch tones if you want to just use 2 tones. You could also run in 4 tones which have almost the same tone breaks as Deus 2 three tones with the first non ferrous tone bin ending at 20 which is similar to Deus 2’s 50 and leaves all US coins and mid to larger gold rings as a mid or high tone. Running the F discrimination pattern is not a good idea in my opinion especially on deeper targets. I also would not recommend running the iron filter on 5. Try to run it lower on 1 or 2 like on an Equinox 800 F2 setting for deeper targets that are effected by mineralization.

Thanks, Jeff, for the comments. I will try some of the settings you suggested. I still think the Legend did great at the beach, other than the choppy response. That particular beach isn't mineralized but does have high salt content. Lengend ID I thought was actually more accurate than the Manticore, which surprised me.

Yep, the Legend was actually doing a pretty good job of IDing those deep Wheats which are low 40s most of the time for me. I know absolutely nothing about the Manticore. Everyday I am tempted to pull the trigger on one but Deus 2 especially with the 11" or 13X11" coil (which is what I have along with the 9") is so good I just don't see the point. Thanks Andy!!!@@RelicsRings

@jeffmcclendon3835 the Deus 2 is a great machine. I don't see any reason you should get a Manticore if you're happy with the Deus.

Recovery for the beach should be low unless there is a lot of junk. As you know a high recovery speed means less depth! I notice that you set up the Deus with a recovery of 3 and the Legend with a recovery of 5, why????

Salt content dictates recovery speed. This lake is 8 times saltier than the ocean. Higher recovery speed gives better results. The same is true in high mineralization.

Ciao, in quelle condizioni l'apex avrebbe funzionato meglio in Mf piuttosto che in MS. Buona giornata

The Garrett is a pretty good beach machine. A larger coil would have probably allowed it to get a target ID on those deep targets. The point of the video was to compare what's considered a stock 11" coil, but it was at a slight disadvantage compared to the other round 11" coils.

My only question is about recovery speed on the Legend. It seems you ran in higher than the other 2 machines. Why? I feel the choppy responses would have been reduces some with lower recovery. Also I like to run my Legend with as little filtering as possible I find a lot better depth with minimal filtering. I generally try to get the GS as low as possible without it being to sparky and the IF I run on 0 but I also like to dig a majority of my targets.

Settings always become a complicated discussion because what works at your site might not work at mine. I'm actually at a beach at the Great Salt Lake in Utah, where the salt is 8 times greater than the ocean. Stock Settings for the Legend in beach mode are 2 tones, F disc, recovery 6, IF 8, IS 5. Those Settings definitely don't work for me. However, they way I set it up did and if you watch the video it actually, IMO outperformed the Manticore when it comes to target ID. Lower recovery than 5 actually smeared the targets more. The choppy response was from running disc at F and would have cleaned up if run I had run G. Lower IF probably would have help too.

What software version was on the Deus 2? Are you going to compare Deus 2 software version 2.00 vs Manticore on small gold?

Deus 2 is running 2.0 I will be comparing the Deus 2 and Manticore on targets in the wild at a site I've found gold before. Hopefully a nugget will show up.
