I'm learning to weave using tablets to use them on the inside of knitted sweaters along the button band as support for the buttons. Thank you for doing your videos. Hubby and I have so enjoyed watching and I've learned so much!
You inspired me with your video on absolute beginners - I bought a loom, made some tablets and created my first ever wee strip of tablet woven braid yesterday! It’s pretty crap, mainly because I used some rather grabby wool I had for knitting/crochet, but your teaching was so clear and made it all so simple. Many many thanks to you for your videos, and for giving me further ideas now!
I am SO glad I found this channel. I bought an inkle loom almost a year ago. I think I warped it once. Now I've got warping yarn on order, and already have plans to wile away the winter!
Now that I watched this video, I want to make an inkle loom and weave belts and dog leashes and lanyards and guitar straps and edgings....... Thanks for all the ideas!
I just made my 15€ inkle loom today and started to weave with your osenberg revisited and I'm hooked now. Guess whose family will get a looot of tablet woven bands for christmas... :D
Your instructions are wonderful, and I decided to watch this video just for fun. I thought you might be interested to know that I've found tablet weaving to be an excellent way to put the thrums from my loomed weaving to good use. I do a lot of my weaving with 8/2 cotton and keep a "thrum bag" in my crafts closet. When I have enough colours saved up, I hang tablet warp on my rigid heddle loom (it has a floor stand) and off I go! Like my grandmother used to say, "Waste not, want not."
Lovely ideas. I enjoy the small bits of humor you incorporate. I was wondering if there is a website with tablet weaving patterns and info that you recommend.
I don't know how interested I really am in table weaving, or if I'll ever try it,, but your explanation of doing the same with your quilts - shove it in a box and put it in the closet - had me laughing so hard I may have to become a subscriber!
Oh, great ideas...I like to wear my scissors around my neck when I’m doing crafty things that require frequent use of them...so I can find them in a hurry. Much classier than an i-cord.
Dear Elewys.Thank you so much for sharing your ideas. You are a great artist and teacher . And I really appreciate your sense of humour. All the best, Carmen.
I just discovered your channel a few days ago by accident and I must say I was drawn in instantly! I am an ADD Crafter meaning I always have so many projects going at once and almost every new craft I see I want to try! This makes for a crazy amount of craft supplies and an organization nightmare LOL. So far my husband has not divorced me over it 😉. I love it when you get to the point in the video where you are ready to end and you just grab scissors and snip across all those threads... SO SATISFYING 💞.
I have a dream of making beautiful tie-down straps, which I use a lot for backpacking and other outdoor activities, I think it would be cool to make ones to recognize specific hikes and label them with the year
I'm making my own loom this weekend so I can make some stylish reins for my horse! Thank you so much for the in depth tutorials you have on your channel and the endless inspiration you give
Ooh, I’ve been wracking my brain, trying to think what to give my friend who works in a med clinic for Christmas. She’s getting a name tag lanyard. Thanks for the idea!
This video is several years old, and I do not know if you will see my comment. Many years ago, at a craft festival, a woman was selling woven wristwatch bands. They were woven with very fine thread, and very, very beautiful.
I've done a little bit of tablet weaving a few years ago, but I couldn't get the hang of it, so I gave up. Your videos make me want to give it an other chance 🙂 Apart from that, you come across like the most sweet and patient and loving person ever. I really like the energy you radiate ❤️
I love how you are so upfront about how you mess up sometimes! It's nice to know that experienced creators still make mistakes and need to cover them up
I have a friend who'd die for a black and red choker. And there has to be a jewelry piece available to pinch the ends secure and latch them together for that purpose or for a bracelet.
I was introduced to tablet/card weaving by JillianEve. She brought it up during her vlogmas and is planning on a video in the new year. I found this by researching so I can follow along and I have to say, you are a bad influence 😁 cuz my imagination is endless.
Very nice! Thanks for the ideas. I use an inkle loom from time to time and my husband always says "what are you going to do with that one?" Well, now I've got some solid answers for him
I came across your videos by chance, I must say you are an absolute delight, thank you for such an enjoyable introduction to tablet weaving, this video is the second one I have watched
I have a lot of reasons to start tablet weaving. I need a new dog leash and to make then colors perfect for my dogs makes it a priority! I can add them to my containers where I keep my card making supplies in. I'm off to Amazon, thanks again!!!
If you ever get sick of weaving you could go into comedy. I have just started with the inkle. I planned to do tablets but decided to start with heddles. After 6 tries to get the warp in the pattern I wanted ( in my head) I finally started. Did a few inches and then a thread came undone. I couldn't get it to go back right so undid it all to start again. Finally got it going and have done about 12 inches but the first 10 inches are terrible . However I have learned quite a bit from my mistakes. I was not firm enough the beating the weft down for a start. Also the edges are uneven in tension but I can keep them straight. So I will work this to the end and then try another pattern. I will keep this one with all its flaws to compare with future work to see how I might have improved... Hope springs eternal.
I'm so glad to find your channel, Elewys, I've had an itch for weaving since college when I had access to a weaving studio but haven't had room for a loom since. Crocheting helped to fill the void but finding that I can do woven bands without a big loom or outlay is great. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video! I was one of those viewers asking for ideas. 😄 Your imagination for ideas for weaving is much better than mine. But you have sparked my imagination now too.
Elewys, thank you! So many of these are ideas that might be in my head, but not seeing how they look, I begin to doubt myself. I AM weaving along with you, thank you! I have been interested in tablet weaving for a long time, but I'm specifically interested in earlier historically-based weaving patterns, so your channel has been wonderful, and I'm enjoying the website. Whenever you share documentation sources, I get all excited... :)
I'm currently crocheting my first ever mochilla bag and I'm adding a tablet woven strap (first full project i can remember doing) and a kumihimo drawstring... learning so many new techniques...thanks so much for the clear videos
I like the idea of the key fob - lanyard and also a dog leash and bag strap. Another thing, a friend of mine who weaves kitchen towels put a small one at the inside of the towel to hang the towel.
So much fun how you can use them. I am doing the Birka 6 pattern, but it's my first go so it's a little impressive and tragic at the same time. Lots of mistakes. I appreciate your videos, they helped so much with understanding how it all works.
I'm picking up my new Inkle loom from the PO today. Cant wait to warp it up and start weaving (going to see if it's easier to weave the dragon heads on this). It's going to much more portable and easier to weave bands on this (rather than warping it up on my large Rigid Heddle).
Loved this video! 💕 Thanks for putting this together. Yup, gift ideas coming together... key fobs, camera straps, lanyard for the college kiddo!!! Awesome sauce!
I am about to finish my first piece of tablet weaving. I did the Oseberg band from episode 1. Of course there are some tension and learning issues but the second half of the band has really improved. Thanks for you videos. I do have one question that maybe you can answer in one of your future videos what 1 book would you recommend on tablet weaving patterns and techniques.
Tablet weaving book recommendations.... Applesies and Fox Noses is probably my #1 go-to recommendation. It has period patterns and motifs, and starts with easier patterns and works its way through to difficult ones. Great way to learn as you go! Their pattern notations are different than the ones I use, which is why I usually recommend people use a pattern generator that they are familiar with to know exactly how cards are threaded, etc. A lot of other patterns I found on Pinterest. Look for my file of Historic Tablet Weaving at: www.pinterest.com/elewys/historic-tablet-weaving/. Most of them are period or have period motifs. As for other books, I'll have to look through my (limited) collection.
Ok, you’ve got me convinced! I will be purchasing a loom as soon as my craft budget allows and will be following your lovely tutorials! You make this craft so approachable :) thank you!
I would like to make it to cover the hem of my knitted jumper, which I love, because it is getting old and worn. It would give it a new lease of life. Thank you for all these great ideas.
Hand woven bands are used in Norwegian traditional costumes and in the Sami culture. For the hair, holding the stockings up, as decorations and more. They are quite expensive. We also use bands as decorations on some traditional knitted sweaters. But the bands are usually machine made, handmade are to expensive.
Thanks so much for your videos. I love your sense of humor. I do all sorts of fiber crafts, and have held out on getting a loom, but I think I will be succumbing soon .. all because of you! I can't wait to get or make my own inkle loom and start weaving ... love the tablet weaving, and regular inkle weaving ... mmm thanks again. your videos are very enjoyable.
This may be a silly question...is there a proper way to cut the woven bands if it a shorter length is needed than was woven? I would be afraid to snip it and have it self destruct!
Curses! The dreaded ebay has inkle looms made relatively locally to me. Now to explain a new craft neeeeeeeeds to husband who looks with dismay at the fabric in the sewing room. I may also have perked up a friend's ears with talks of dog leads after explaining what an inkle loom is. Well if I go down, I'm taking another with me! Thank you for the ideas, the humour and the tutorials.
You are so funny. And i love all your work. It’s bin a while ago and when I discovered you i whipped out my inkel loom . Thanks for de videos that you make, it’s really a good inspiration. And your history lessons are interesting 🧐.
These are such good ideas. One thing that's held me back from trying tablet weaving is not knowing what to do with the finished product 😅 But no longer! Thanks for making this
I love 💗 your sense of humour! Love watching your videos. I was wondering if I could work tablet weave on a backstrap loom? Another idea is towels and pillow cases and sheets
I've only just gotten into tablet weaving and I've been thinking of ways to show off the craft outside of reenactment, I feel like making a lanyard is a perfect idea, especially since I need one for my key card and student card at uni
I like you! I have a couple weavings I’ve done and honestly I just like looking at them all wrapped up lol I do use them at Christmas! But I like a lot of these ideas. Thank you for sharing!
I don't do tablet weaving but I found a loom that you tie to doorknob and waist with (apparently) a beginner pattern started on it. I imagine sewing one around my bag or to a rucksack so that it creates loops to which I can tie smaller items with other belts. I also see a denim jacket or and shirts decorated with wide and narrow belts giving an artsy 3-D look. My loom is from Finland: many of their national costumes use them tied around the head, mostly to show that the woman is unmarried but in some married women also wear them. (Different regions have their own costumes and now there's one created for ex-pats)
So very enjoyable to watch and so many creative ideas pop in my mind. I do have a favorite diy craft of rug making. Maybe on an upcoming video the combined tablet weave plus a fabric or mixed media to create an accent rug. I think those rugs could be of strong quality and added beautiful colors and patterns. Thank you Lynn
You can make a classy rifle or shotgun sling, especially for muzzle-loading. I made a knife sheath, and instead of lacing through holes punched on the edge, I tied each hole separately with a long thread, which I then used as the weft in a tablet-woven border, then tied over beads.
I'm thinking of weaving a camera strap for my wife. Not sure on a pattern yet but the simpler the better. One question I have is how much, if any, does the warp length shrink during weaving? e.g. For every yard of finished length one should start with a warp of 1.1 yard? 1.2 yards?
I gotta add some I thought of while watching this (kinda just variations on the ideas in the video, but hey it may help someone): - choker - a fancy friendship bracelet - camera strap - dog or cat collar - strap for your reading glasses P.S. As a beginner my aim is to one day create a saree border ❤ (I know that they are not usually made by tablet weaving, but I think it can look amazing)
Thanks, Elewys! I already play guitar, sew historical outfits, make leather bags and other things from leather, garden, and collect and play strategic board games. Now I need to start tablet weaving! Maybe I should just quit my job?
"At least this takes less space." 😁
Steve, send the picture. We all want to see it!

"Same thing I do with all the quilts I make..." Somewhere, my mom is feeling called out. XD

Welcome to my universe!
I love the pillow case suggestion!
I love your dry humor. :-) I just ordered my first inkle loom. It's en route. I'm thinking of using some bands to embellish the zipper pouches I sew.
I have a dream of making beautiful tie-down straps, which I use a lot for backpacking and other outdoor activities, I think it would be cool to make ones to recognize specific hikes and label them with the year
I'm stealing that idea. Doing them in linen or cotton and waxing after the straps are woven but before hardware and voilà, Water proof woven straps!
I am so excited for this to be my first foray into weaving.
I'm making my own loom this weekend so I can make some stylish reins for my horse! Thank you so much for the in depth tutorials you have on your channel and the endless inspiration you give

Me too. I looked up the looms today.
This video is several years old, and I do not know if you will see my comment. Many years ago, at a craft festival, a woman was selling woven wristwatch bands. They were woven with very fine thread, and very, very beautiful.
Makes a great placket for sweaters like the Norwegian sweaters...
I may try an abbreviated version of this pattern on a pair of shoelaces.
I've done a little bit of tablet weaving a few years ago, but I couldn't get the hang of it, so I gave up. Your videos make me want to give it an other chance 🙂
Apart from that, you come across like the most sweet and patient and loving person ever. I really like the energy you radiate ❤️
Thank you, this is one of the best lists I have come across and it has gotten my creative juices flowing.
I love how you are so upfront about how you mess up sometimes! It's nice to know that experienced creators still make mistakes and need to cover them up
OMG, I love your sense of humor, haven't laughed so hard in a long time, thanks!! And I love your work as well!! ❤️🇳🇱
I have a friend who'd die for a black and red choker. And there has to be a jewelry piece available to pinch the ends secure and latch them together for that purpose or for a bracelet.
Look for "ribbon ends" in jewelry making. Lots of options on Amazon.
I was introduced to tablet/card weaving by JillianEve. She brought it up during her vlogmas and is planning on a video in the new year. I found this by researching so I can follow along and I have to say, you are a bad influence 😁 cuz my imagination is endless.
Oh my word, I love your humor!!! Thanks so much for the entertainment!
I love your weaving and your sense of humour!!
Thank you for all of the ideas. 😍
Found your channel tonight. Love your personality ☺️.
Very nice! Thanks for the ideas. I use an inkle loom from time to time and my husband always says "what are you going to do with that one?" Well, now I've got some solid answers for him
All excellent suggestions! Now I'm even more excited about starting up 😁
I Love the purse idea. I don't need another hobby, but I'm so intrigued.
I came across your videos by chance, I must say you are an absolute delight, thank you for such an enjoyable introduction to tablet weaving, this video is the second one I have watched
see... now I need to learn to do this... I just need to find a loom thing!
I would love to see how do you take it off to do the loom when you are finished.
I have a lot of reasons to start tablet weaving. I need a new dog leash and to make then colors perfect for my dogs makes it a priority! I can add them to my containers where I keep my card making supplies in. I'm off to Amazon, thanks again!!!
i so love to look at your video's if i'm going along with make them or not. i just love your humor.

It's always good to keep your first piece to look back at and see how far you've come!

Lots of ideas. I'm planning some bags while I learn to sew, could definitely include some straps while I learn to weave!
I just LOVE Your videos! I just got my weaving cards in the mail 2 days ago and I'm almost finished with my second band, it's so addictive! 😀
Thank you for answering my Q and putting it in a vlog. :)

Just found you, thanks for your time and effort that you have invested in these great videos! Very interesting 😊
You are so funny, creative and inspiring. New subscriber.👍👍💞
Ok, you’ve got me convinced! I will be purchasing a loom as soon as my craft budget allows and will be following your lovely tutorials! You make this craft so approachable :) thank you!
So sad, I have to go to work. But I'll be watching this evening. Have a Great Day!~
Love the bag!!!

Omgsh, I just love your sense of humor! Thanks so much for the great videos! I'm going to try this! Looking for a cool loom like what you use!
If you look in the video description, there is a link to my Amazon Affiliate store with recommendations. :D Thanks for watching!
Great ideas!! Love your videos.
This may be a silly question...is there a proper way to cut the woven bands if it a shorter length is needed than was woven? I would be afraid to snip it and have it self destruct!
If you're worried about unraveling, you can put a drop of Fray Check on the ends.
Watching you make the bag made me think... Make a cover for a throw pillow!
Thanks for including the B-roll at the end! I had a great laugh at your sleepy camera.
Curses! The dreaded ebay has inkle looms made relatively locally to me. Now to explain a new craft neeeeeeeeds to husband who looks with dismay at the fabric in the sewing room. 😄
You are so funny. And i love all your work. It’s bin a while ago and when I discovered you i whipped out my inkel loom . Thanks for de videos that you make, it’s really a good inspiration. And your history lessons are interesting 🧐.
Thank you for sharing! Also, I love the colour of your tunic
Absolutely! Many weavers love using a backstrap set up.
When you open the seam and tuck the band in you will have a finer finish of your work , just suggesting
Good tip! Next time, for sure!
Thank you so much I’ll have to give it a go now
you're just great, and subtly funny! love your videos
Really good Ideas! Thank you very much !
Thanks for the ideas!
You inspired me! Just ordered a set of cards and a small rigid heddle box loom! I too have many finished projects waiting in boxes:) Be well friend!
Oh! Oh! Oh! Mandora strap! That would be really great.
This is super helpful! I never know how long to make my weaving when winding on and this gives me more of a goal so I actually finish them!
1.2 yards?
Great idea! Add 25% to the length of the finished item, plus the leader/ender bits.
I gotta add some I thought of while watching this (kinda just variations on the ideas in the video, but hey it may help someone):
- choker
- a fancy friendship bracelet
- camera strap
- dog or cat collar
- strap for your reading glasses
P.S. As a beginner my aim is to one day create a saree border ❤ (I know that they are not usually made by tablet weaving, but I think it can look amazing)
This is great! I love your humor! This video makes me think, If the Vikings had a 5-minute crafts...lol!
I have used mine as a neck strap for my glasses.
Omgosh, Sounders fan! That was me & my hubby's first date💞 Lol, I was about to say you must be a super cool mom, then that popped up😁
I have a purse pattern that requires leather for the ties and I have never wanted to buy specific leather just for that. Now THIS would be PERFECT.
I use many of my Bands as distaffbands for spinning ☺️
Thanks, Elewys! I already play guitar, sew historical outfits, make leather bags and other things from leather, garden, and collect and play strategic board games. Now I need to start tablet weaving! Maybe I should just quit my job?
