Thank you! When you talked about “flipping the border tablets” I had envisioned spinning the cards on their axis to unwind the down- warp twist rather than turning them front to back or back to front, so I am very grateful for this demonstration! I’m working on building a surfboard loom and hope to finish it in the next couple days and I can’t wait to try the techniques I’ve found on your channel.
OHHHHHHHH! Y'see, I thought the knot you were tying (after threading the card) was being tied onto that peg, but you're typing the ends together... forming a loop. So, ya... now I get how you can continue to advance onward. Golly... I'm glad I asked for the information and you time traveled backward to make this video for me. What a pal!!
Thank you for publishing these videos. Your videos are well done and you are a very good teacher. I dusted my Inkle loom, made some cards and I'm ready to give it a try.
Thank you so much for these videos, I have just purchased all my weaving products and I'm half way thru my first pattern! I find reading instructions difficult but watching you it all makes sense. Really beautiful weaving
Thank you for showing how the weave is advanced. I find this fascinating. I’m not sure I have the patience. I recently darned a 4” hole the dog chewed in a cotton blanket. It’s pretty tragic looking around the edges but the center where it is woven gives me great satisfaction. I may have to find some patience.
I love your videos and can't wait for more! I have no space for a loom so no plans to start weaving myself but I've watched all your videos so far. I love seeing people crafting and it's nice having someone keep me company while I crochet : )
Thank you for all of your lovely videos. :) I’m thinking of ordering some of the lovely carpet warp you use and trying to make a new purse strap for a favorite bag.
I never thought about using a pencil to keep cards straight. I made a couple of long sashes years ago with a product called Knit-Cro-Sheen, soft but strong.
I’m so glad I found these videos. I’ve been looking for a new skill, and this is perfect. My husband and I are involved in Dagorhir, so this would be great to do for our garb and for camp life. He’s making a loom for me, and then I can get started! You do such an excellent job explaining the steps and clearly showing what to do in all of your videos. I’m looking forward to your future videos!
@@elewysoffinchingefeld3066 don't worry and thanks a lot for sharing these very helpful videos with us! Just so you know, I am planning to build an inkle loom soon-ish, and it's all your fault..! ahahah

To be honest I had no idea this was this intricate. You do an amazing job! I watched some of your videos and they are showing me just how much work goes into these and its all beautiful. Great job.
Hi Elewys, I’ve just binge watched all your videos. Thank you. You are so clear, calm, knowledgeable and funny. I do many textile handcrafts and have always wanted to start weaving but was nervous. Guess who’s just ordered an inkle loom?!! I cannot wait now to start my weaving adventure with you at my side. Cheers from Australia.
Hi! This is a super helpful video. Does the flipped border cards make any difference in the texture? As well, in your intro image, what is the pattern of the ribbon the second from the left in the middle row? It's the navy and gold starry one, it's gorgeous
So I just found your channel and have developed an interest in band weaving. Plan to build.a loom based on yours. I have tried to find the plans for the cards your husband developed but not sure which they are. Would you be able to provide a link to the plans? Thank you. I enjoyed your videos, you have a very good presentation style. Very calming.
Hi John! I may not have communicated clearly--the card pattern he has made he is not 100% satisfied with it, so he hasn't posted it on Thingiverse, but there are some out there. Here's one with Oseberg "recreations": www.thingiverse.com/thing:1806753
Hello! I found your channel this week and really enjoy your videos. You do a wonderful job explaining what your'e doing, and I enjoy the funny comments you flash on the screen sometimes. :) I've though about weaving in the past and this technique seems perfect for my needs. Would you consider making a video that shows some of the common mistakes and what you do to fix them? I'd also like to see how you finish a weaving after it comes off the loom. Thank you! Keep up the great work. 🤗🤗
Welcome! Interesting suggestion...I'm going to give that some serious thought. The finish is really this easy--snip. It doesn't unravel very easily, and if you have concerns about it doing so (working with slippery threads), just add a dot or two of Fray Check.
I got this one second hand a number of years ago, but you can find inkle looms on various web sites like Etsy, and shops like the Woolery.com and yarn.com.
Hey Elewys, thanks for this awesome video of yours! I see some cards having 5,6 and 8 holes in the 3d printer file you sent. Can you show their potentials and what can you do with them in a separate video if possible? I'm really wondering how they work but apparently, there aren't any video about them on youtube. Thanks a lot :)
Brand new here, don't even have cards yet. Question; but, if you flip the border cards from z to s and s to z, doesn't that make the weaving go the other way?
It varies--some patterns go very quickly, like 1" every 5 minutes; others are painfully slow. My last piece was 3 3/4 yards long and it took over 13 hours to complete (not all in one sitting, of course). Another one that I still have unfinished was going MUCH slower.
I feel like we could be friends. You're a history nerd. I'm a math nerd. I love making things with geometric patterns. I'd have to do some research but I believe a lot of these patterns have some algebraic structure to them.
What is the overall length of the warp on this loom, vs. how much you can weave? Is there a way to look at a loom and determine these lengths? Thanks, these videos are very instructive.
Tablet weaving will reduce about 20-25% from beginning warp to finished product. Mine warps up at 5 yards and creates about 3 1/2 to 3 3/4 yards when finished. If you're buying a loom second hand, bring a tape measure.
Hi Lady Elewys, do you think you might be able to help me figure out what I'm doing wrong with my weaving? I'm doing the basic pattern that comes in the weaving card set (8 cards, all light in A and B, all dark in C and D). It says tie the knots with A and D on top, and then turn so C and D are on top. And that when C and D are on top, it should be all dark on top. Well...it's not happening for me. I still have lights snaking up from the bottom and getting twisted with the dark threads. This has happened to me multiple times and I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
There could be a few things going wrong. This could be an S/Z threading issue, the direction your cards are facing, or how your cards are labeled. Without pictures of the pattern and all of these variables, I'm not sure I can give you a definitive answer. IM me through my Facebook page (Elewys of Finchingefeld) and send images and I can see if I can help you.
Weave a thing. Probably from fine yarn--size 10 pearl cotton or 20/2 silk. Cut to length. Add connector bits. Not sure if you need more details, but I'm not a jewelry maker, so I can't help with that.
When you flip the border cards from S to Z, do you then change the rotation on the pattern? Or do you continue the same rotation as before? For example if you had been rotating the cards away from you, then flip the cards do you continue to rotate the cards away from you or do you then start rotating the cards toward yourself? Thanks.
When the border cards are over-twisted, you can *either* turn them in the other direction--backwards instead of forwards-- *or* flip the cards and continue turning forwards. Both will give you the same result. I generally prefer to flip the border cards due to muscle memory and when I pick up where I left off, I don't need to struggle to remember which way I was going before.
@@elewysoffinchingefeld3066 Thanks for the information. Love your videos. I ordered some yarn and cards and I am planning to follow along and do the bands you demonstrate.
Hi may I ask what kind of yarn do you use as I've bought dmc crochet yarn number 5 am I using the right one or not. I would appreciate it if you could please reply back in English if possible.
When do you flip the boarders? Does the pattern tell you and if it does tell you what does that look like? Or...is it when the borders are too twisted.
Usually when the borders get too twisted--that can be about every 40 or 50 picks, but it varies based on the yarns you are using. The finer the yarns, the less frequently you need to flip.

Does flipping the boarder cards change the look of the subsequent border? Is it obvious where the flip occurred?
The heavier the yarn, the more noticeable it is. There's a funny little lump, but it's not too bad.
So if you wanted to make bracelets from this, what’s the best method for that?
Weave a thing. Probably from fine yarn--size 10 pearl cotton or 20/2 silk. Cut to length. Add connector bits. Not sure if you need more details, but I'm not a jewelry maker, so I can't help with that.
