I know McKellen's character is supposed to be the villain but he does have a point, A LOT of really bad stuff was done in the name of the Church and religious fervor has creeped into contemporary politics today, so IF in fact it's all built on a lie then exposing the truth may in fact be what the world needs.
Fortunately or unfortunately, this film is almost wholly fiction. This was never and will never be the truth. Just the backdrop to have a mystery and some suspense. That said, religion in and of itself is not bad, but like with all things can be when taken to excess. There are also people who use religion as an excuse to do evil. Every religion has its problematic past and sometimes present. The world is complicated and even if every major religion or just Christianity were based on a lie it would still change nothing. Christianity has been and continues to be the largest organized religion based upon reach and total volume. There are some who would believe this new "truth" and many who would not. In the end, the world is not so simple that a single event or outcry would affect it. Not today. It would simply be another story. Released to the teeming masses and lost within the week just like any other.
You have a point... One problem - humans by they nature don't like hearing truth, and truth have to be dressed in clowns clothes and served by stand-up artists... Any other ways of serving truth to people are very unadvicible..... 😜
The building that this scene was filmed in (Lincoln Cathedral) is such a beautiful hidden gem of the UK. It's a shame that it, and the city surrounding it, doesn't get more visitors really.
@@ca11rl77 It was the tallest building from 1311-1549 (when the spire collapsed) and it's maximum height wasn't surpassed until the Washington Monument was completed in 1884. If its spire had survived, it would have held the record for almost 600 years!
I like that Robert realized that Leigh would be unable to do anything other than try to save the cryptex - he'd spend too many years obsessed with finding the Grail to react any other way.
This was really the only scene in the movie that actually grabbed me! The way they portray how memory works. The statue just appears as a ghost. It was really quite captivating to me.
I was like 11 years old when this movie came out. We went to go see it in theaters and I was very lost during the movie. When they mentioned the cryptex created by Issac Newton with a 5 digit password I almost immediately thought 'apple' when it was revealed that was the password I stood up and yelled "I knew it!" in the theaters. Fond childhood memory.
I don't know. I think the scene was way better in the book. When Leigh realizes that Robert had already opened the Cryptex and were fighting about the empty hull. Also: A cryptex is a bad instrument to lock away a secret.
Could be wrong but I reckon the one fruit most resembling the Heart is the apple. Its said Love comes from the Heart, its said God is Love and Love conquers all things. So it would seem Newton's act of demonstrating gravity using an apple when he could have simply used a rock or stick has a deeper meaning. Maybe it pointed to the Gravity of Love, I mean we still reference that till this day no? When we say we fell in love? I do know that at that Table, Christ's right hand is in a clutched configuration, palm facing down while his left hand is flat and palm facing up. Nothing is in his clutching right hand just as Newton's is empty in this scene. If you draw two lines both radiating out from the same point and that point being at the center of his clutched right hand, draw one line radiating out thru his heart thru that brooch at his neckline and you do the same for what's seated to his right forming that V. That angle is 90 degrees. A square is an angle of 90 degrees so if you close that V by them two coming together as One then would you not have two hearts beating as One? Seems I've heard that line in lyrics and poetry.
Actually the cryptex and the riddle is made by sauniere and he made Sophie speak in English since childhood even though they were french. In the books it's mentioned that the priory of Sion started using English since early ages coz it was a new language and looked down by the church which spoke Latin and other latin based languages. So the priory started using English for everything since it was relatively new and not known widely enough at that time.
Mythologists are so programmed to beleive anything having to do with their little book, I had so many people coming in to the bookstore when I used to work there complaining that this book was in the general fiction section. This, along with the Left Behind series, they really believed were "true" so much, they were demanding they be in another section!
No kidding. Considering X-rays exist and could be used to figure out the inner workings of the mechanism. Seems like a guy of his means could hook that up.
Coz the riddle said orb and orb meant spherical object and they found out the Newton part they thought it must've something to do with planets (gravity etc) and looked for what planet/star/moon was the missing orb.

Well, this is specifically the catholic church, not religion.

yeah... one of the times that was tried to build a society without the Church it went so well, huh? Was the French Revolution. Think again.

It is a nice city. Fun fact the building Lincoln cathedral dethroned as world's tallest structure. Was the great pyramid of giza

The UK isn't too fond of visitors these days, that might be part of the problem.
@@IlHansenIl Nah, we're too fond of visitors these days, that's the problem.
The funniest thing about this scene is that Leigh catches the cryptix but still manages to drop it lmfao
And Robert solved the puzzle
The music in this film is one of the best ever..... simply wow !!!!
Hans Zimmer, baby!
This specific ost is named as?, I have heard Chevaliers de Sangreal

You can hear the cryptex being closed again in 3:48
I'd never noticed that! But even cooler, literally a second before that, you can hear rustling paper!
That's the sound of Leigh's crutches.
Sir Ian McKellen is the best❤
This movie seriously has good stuff.
Especially any scene with Sir Ian McKellan.
This was visually stunning. Just like how it was described in the book. Loved it. Great scene

Seems Professor Langdon just had an “Eagle Vision” lol
Could he be a member of the assassin’s creed brotherhood?
Eagle Vision reveals what is hidden. What he has is eidetic memory. He can remember what he sees near perfectly. Its not Eagle Vision.

Hans Zimmer's score for this movie had no right to be this beautiful given the quality of the rest of the film.
I love the movie, gave us the real representation of our imagination after reading the book

Wouldn't the answer to the riddle be written NOT in english?
Pretty Sure Isaac Newton made that cryptex, hence apple being the answer.
which is funny because that would be the modern equivalent of using the word "Password" as your password
