    Interesting - I have all 3 shoes in my rotation. I must say that since picking up the Speeds, the Tempos haven’t seen the light of day. They’re another level for me. My Tempos are approaching 300m too. I have found the midsole is just a bit too firm for my liking and has little energy return vs. the Speeds. As for the Mach 4 - I agree. It was evident from my first run that it wasn’t a speed shoe. It’s extremely comfortable, and I’ll continue to use it as an easy/steady/MP shoe. Overhyped for sure, but still a good daily shoe nonetheless.

    Have enjoyed all 3 shoes. For me (2:41 marathon PB) the speeds are the closest ride I have had to a vapourfly and cope with sub 6 min/mile no problem. I possibly even prefer them to the endorphin pro to be honest. They aren’t the most stable shoe however in poor conditions so took a back seat through winter.
    The Hyperion tempo feels closer to a cross between an old racing flat and fast trainer. It feels more stable, is firmer and lower to the ground. I don’t feel as protected or fast in this personally but it copes with low 6s for me and I would run tempo and sustained efforts or medium long in it.
    Enjoying the Mach 4 but for me as you say it is complimentary. Fast speeds don’t feel as effortless but it is a very nice ride and very stable for the stack.
    For medium long to long runs on the road that aren’t involving marathon pace efforts I would reach for this. Feels very nice closer to 6:30-6:40 paces for me but doesn’t have that snap that begs to go faster like the speed or indeed the vapourfly.

    • @TheFODRunner
      @TheFODRunner  3 роки тому

      Sounds like you use the shoes very similar to me, albeit maybe swap the speed and tempo around! Yes the speed does strike a resemblance to the vaporfly but the one that feels like they should be “related” the the fuelcell TC? Not sure if you’ve ever tried that but wow, that’s an amazing training partner for the next%

    Bear in mind that for slower runners more used to a bog standard trainer, the light weight Mach 4 feels pretty amazing. I’ve only run twice in mine but they feel like a more cruisey Turbo 2 with a more comfortable upper and better lockdown. Just what I want for logging easy-steady miles. I suspect it’s a more suitable shoe for those of us who operate around the 5:30 minute km steady pace than an Endorphin Speed.

    I have all 3 of these shoes. I absolutely love my tempos and speeds. I’ve commented here before about how much I love them. I agree with you regarding the pop of both the speed and tempo. Those shoes are in a complete league of their own.
    That being said I love the Mach 4 from the moment I put it on my foot. While the top end speed isn’t the same as the other two shoes it is still a nice lightweight nimble shoe. There is something about it where you just lock in the pace and go. I think it’s what you cal the gliding aspect. I can just set my pace with relative ease and not think about it at all.
    I’m about to take the Mach 4 on a 20 mile long run in a few hours. Interested to see how does. It’s really windy here today so hopefully I’m not fighting it too much. Great video Andy!!

    Completely agree with your comments Andy re: rotation (i have the speed, more recently the mach). Reserving the mach for long runs, finding up to 10k they are just "OK" then as you go further they really start to make sense - so easy to hold a moderate pace and rhythm for as far as you want to take them.

    Love the speed as a daily trainer. It can just do anything. Perfectly happy at 5min + per km and also down at 400m rep speed on workout days. Best all around shoe I’ve run in. Pushing 600km in mine now.
    Recently bought the Mach 4 on the back of the UA-cam hype. It’s a very comfortable upper, beautiful fit and it’s a perfectly competent shoe. It just doesn’t fill me with joy to run in. I can’t really think where in my rotation it fits. It’ll come in handy I’m sure.
    Never tried any kind of Brooks shoe. Maybe next on the purchase list (unless the NB Fuel Cell Rebel V2 gets there first).

    Thanks for this informative comparison. It confirms that the Tempos and Speeds-my main rotation models along with the Boston 9's-have me covered. I haven’t had great luck with HOKA, and my temptation to try the Mach 4 because of the buzz has been appeased by this. I am very light weight and use the Speeds for long runs as well as runs with speed elements. Martha. PS, Andy, as someone who does best in light shoes, I’m open to recommendations besides HOKA for long, easy run shoes.

    • @TheFODRunner
      @TheFODRunner  3 роки тому

      That’s it, they’ll have you covered for sure 👌 I’ll be honest I also use either the speed or tempo long runs too, in terms of lightweight the rocket x is nice but also the fuelcell TC is a great long run trainer!

  • @keithisaacs6092
    @keithisaacs6092 3 роки тому +1

    Hi Andy received my Mach 4s couple of days ago and i tend to agree with you it is slightly over rated. The problem with Hoka's they are not versatile when it comes to adapting to different shapes of feet. My first run i had to cut short due to my right heel getting very sore although i did enjoy the ride. As you say Andy it's a very good cruiser bit like a Rolls Royce of running shoes. The Brooks Hyperion Tempo is also a very good shoe but being a lighter runner i find it quite hard and my feet after about six to eight miles are crying out for some care and attention so i tend to use it for my speed sessions. If you combined these two shoes i think you would end up with something like the Endorphin speed which does everything that these two shoes can do and feels more like a racing shoe on your foot and you don't notice it's there at all.

    • @TheFODRunner
      @TheFODRunner  3 роки тому

      Yeah slightly overhyped but still a solid shoe and very enjoyable as you said. I agree, they aren’t the most adaptable to your feet sadly but I’m grateful they work well for me!

Strides felt great. I do love the Mach 4 for my daily work and long miles. Not too squishy but squishy enough. Legs just keep rolling along. Replaced my peg 37. Hi Andy, what a great idea to compare that 3 shoes! :) I've got already all of them and each shoe is great but different feel. Love all three! :) Just yesterday went on the first run in Mach 4 and it's awesome, very comfy, looks even better than Clifton 7. But for me the top is Endorphin Speed, this is like a "KING" among running shoes. Also Hyperion is great but more stiff feel than Endorphin Speed. Speed seem to me the most versatile and really great, bouncy, comfy and speedy shoes, the best combination of those three features. Hyperion Tempo seems to me the fastest of them, but my legs are the least tired after whatever run in Endorphin Speed. So all great, but each excels in something different. :) Thank you so much for another great review! Best, Peter.

    • @peterkisidaj9329
      @peterkisidaj9329 3 роки тому

      Your're absolutely right about Mach 4 that this is a great complementary shoe to the rotation with Endorphin Speed and Hyperion Tempo. Also noticed that to get more speed in Mach 4, legs need to work more than to get the same higher speed in Speed or Hyperion Tempo. But, Mach 4 is very very comfortable, great feel. I would say ideal for steady runs, not really high tempo workouts/intervals. But for some fartleks, changing speed, slower to higher and vice versa, not bad too.

    • @TheFODRunner
      @TheFODRunner  3 роки тому

      Yeah legs definitely need to work more in the Mach 4 to get the speed up but as you said, the speed is the most natural of the 3 shoes without a doubt, I just find the tempo ideal for those marathon paced workouts!! So glad you love all 3, appreciate you watching!

    Hi Andy, your hints for the Rocket X were right. Now I have to decide between these 3 , I get along really well with Hoka, but I’m so curious on the Brooks, which I think is also lighter... my marathon pace it’s around 6:40... which one would you pick? 😁

    • @TheFODRunner

    Hey Andy, I’m looking at either the Mach or the Hyperion Tempo for my next pair; which would you say is more versatile between the 2? I do have the speed. The only thing that’s making me have second thoughts is that the Hyperion Tempo is $40 more over the Mach here in Canada.

    • @TheFODRunner
      @TheFODRunner  3 роки тому

      The mach4 will compliment the speed better as the tempo is much more similar to the speed in terms of what it can do! Having said that I quite enjoy easy running in the tempo as well and as I’m really loving that right now I’d personally go with tempo.... but logically for a better rotation the Mach 4 makes sense

      @@TheFODRunner first of all, I really appreciate you taking time to try to acknowledge the questions people ask you Andy. Moving on to the Mach and Tempo, the concern I have with the Mach is the durability. I’m afraid it’ll be like the Rincon which loses life pretty early. Got the Speed already so will try to extend those by mixing up with the Tempo. May save the Speed for races and quicker intervals.
    Interestingly, went back to traditional race flats for intervals this week and noticeably sorer the next day than using the Speeds. Shows how much the newer foams help
