Arguably better known these days for the WarioWare series, our anti-hero Wario started off as the villain in Super Mario Land 2 ( tasvideos.org/... ) before starring in his own series of platformers of which this is the fifth (everyone forgets Virtual Boy Wario Land ( tasvideos.org/... )).
Through strategic use of save-and-restore and a glitch allowing rapid diagonal movement and zipping, Wario gets away with all the loot in this S-Hard mode run by Reseren ( tasvideos.org/... ), which is a difficulty mode that's unlocked after beating the game on Hard mode. S-Hard significantly increases the difficulty in comparison to hard mode, by forcing Wario to start each level with one heart, changing the locations of the chests, as well as reducing the time you have from the frog switches (some levels even changing where you activate them).

He helped out a friend of mine though. They were planning on renovating the kitchen and needed a wall knocked down. Wouldn't you believe it, he came bursting through the house and knocked that wall down! For free!
For some reason, he visits me and says that Elon Musk will “Have a rotten day” and disappears. If this doesn’t convince me to lay smoking and drugs, I think might’ve worked considering my confusion.

I wish they did more drastic level changes like they did in Hall of Hieroglyphs and Palm Tree Paradise. I hope any future Wario-likes expand on the concepts of S-Hard and do something really crazy with it.

I've always wanted to see a S-Hard TAS of this game, cause shit's wild. only other one was a sorta playaround TAS that used a cheat to disable the ability to gain health so you'd hear the low health beep the entire damn time.
Just about every level in this had me going WTF

It makes perfect sense. It only takes him 47 minutes to explore an entire pyramid filled with treasure and portals to other worlds. He spends the rest of his time on the couch watching TV.

It's kind of funny. Wario Land 4 saves data instantly, and it does so immediately upon completing basically anything, so as soon as they leave the level or kill a boss, they reset to save time.

can anyone explain how the wall clips work?
When Wario performs ground pound, his body moves up a little bit. If you perform it precisely at the upper corner Wario can get clipped into the wall. Wario can then move to upperleft or upperright in the wall (hence if the player want to go straightly upward, Wario has to zigzag in the wall like 12:56). This is a techinique also commonly used in WL4 any% speedrun.

It's in the game. IIRC, to get it you had to complete the game on Hard to unlock it.

Nice work. Not trying to be rude, but years ago, this guy called EddieERL speedran this on the same difficulty, but challenged himself by not using any sort of glitching, no resetting, and collecting all 16 discs, all without ever taking damage. To prove he'd beat it without ever taking damage, he used a code to make it so he'd always be at 1 heart(By that I mean he starts every level and boss battle with 1 heart remaining and collecting hearts in the levels would not restore his hearts. Not even the heart chest would refill his hearts.) Still, it's nice to see another WL4 S-Hard speedrun, even if you were just doing an any% run.

Lmao, only other input I have on this is that I cannot stand listening to the “one heart left” noise the whole game so I was very annoyed they didn’t collect any health in that TAP which didn’t even matter since they don’t take a hit anyways. Basically torture
