I Never Understood Wind started out as a joke composition. The text is the infamous Trump speech about windmills. I saw a version that someone had printed in poetic form and thought it would be funny to set it to music. The most absurd concept I could think of was a twelve-tone composition for voice and wind quintet. I decided Counter-Tenor would be the funniest, but it could also be sung down an octave by a Baritone.
I used two twelve-tone themes. For the first, I assigned notes to Trump's full name - DONAL(d) J(o)H(n) TRUMP. For the second, the row was WINDM(i)L(l) B(i)R(d) G(r)AVE. The rows are sometimes horizontal, sometimes vertical, and sometimes pass around between the instruments. I am not expecting this to ever be performed live, so I recorded two versions (Baritone and Counter-Tenor) accompanied by MIDI brass instruments.
