What are your thoughts on the announcement of the three new Canon L lenses? Are you going to buy any of them? Do they move the needle for you? Are you waiting on another lens to come out. Tell me in the comments below!
I love the current 70-200 2.8 as I can bring it around with just a small bag. I have (and love) the 35 F1.4 but I don't need 24 / 50mm at this stage as I like to keep my set up as simple as possible when I travel. Hopefully they will have a better ultra wide lens for astrophotography eventually :)
I do 80% photo and 20% video and now that I have the RF 135mm f/1.8L IS, I very rarely use my RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS for photo, but will use it for video. When the RF 70-200mm was first announced, I didn't think I wanted it, because of the telescopic barrel. I eventually got it, and although the image quality is good, the ergonomics are terrible! The throw on the zoom required more twisting of the zoom ring than my EF version of this lens. Even worse was the "control ring" of the lens sits close to the body instead of at the end of the lens like all my other RF lenses. The RF 70-200mm f/4L has better ergonomics (unsure about the Zoom throw) but it's f/4 and no tripod foot. This new version seems to be everything I want in a 70-200mm lens, except that I mainly use my 135mm instead. I would consider purchasing it, but have already pre-ordered a couple of R1 bodies, so I need to recover from that before moving on. I would likely get the white version, because I may eventually pick up the RF 24-105mm f/2.8L IS and the clear visual distinction between the few will help prevent getting them mixed up (not only for myself, but for anyone helping me who might mistake two similar looking lenses). For the other lenses just announced, I already have the RF 50mm f/1.2L which I don't want to replace, and the RF 24mm f/1.8L IS macro, which I don't need to replace. The new RF 35mm f/1.4L is a good lens, although I hoped for an f/1.2 version, which may still be possible. The 'distortion' of the RF 35mm f/1.4L does not bother me at all. I would love to see Canon make a 50-135mm f/2L lens and would happily pair that with my 28-70mm f/2L.
@@JaredRibic You sound like my clone. I have the exact same opinions as you do about the 70-200. I didn't like it. The new one looks WAY more appealing, but as I talked about in my video, the 135 always gets the job done for me, so why spend $3000? I just bought an R5MKII and the RF35mm f/1.4 recently, so like you are with your R1's, I am also recovering. Lol I agree going with white, especially if you get the 24-105 2.8. That way in darkness you know which lens is which when pulling it out of your bag. I don't own a dedicated 24mm yet, so the 1.4 definitely appeals to me, And like you, the theoretical lens that would make the most sense to me would be a 70-135 f2. I'd even compromise for a 70-135 f2 or f1.8.
@@KevinDeal - I'll probably pick up this new "Z" version of the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS eventually, only to replace my older EF 70-200mm which gets used for video. But what I have right now gets the job done, and I do more photo than video so it's not on the top of my list. I have most everything I "need" for lenses, so the only lenses on my "want" list would be the 24-105mm f/2.8L IS, 100-300mm f/2.8L IS (can't believe the LENS HOOD for this thing is $550), and if Canon ever does make a 35mm f/1.2L that would be worth checking out. I mostly shoot weddings, but also shoot fashion/runway, where I used the 70-200mm /2.8L for years. Lately I'm shooting runway with primes and I'm loving it (especially when lighting isn't the best). Right now I'm flying to a runway which I'll shoot tomorrow, most likely with the 85mm f/1.2L. Didn't even bother to pack the 70-200mm. Would love a 50-150mm f/2L for runway, and weddings as well. But the 135mm f/1.8L IS has been awesome. Two more weeks before the R1 bodies arrive! Can't wait! I went from the R5 bodies to R3 bodies and didn't miss the resolution. I was hoping the R1 would be 30MP but I'm actually fine with "only" 24MP.
Ive ordered the RF 50mm f1.4L VCM. Ive loved the EF 85mm f1.4L IS USM and I prefer the lighter weight of 1.4 lenses over the 1.2 versions. The commentators so far say the RF 50mm f1.4L VCM is very good optically with great bokeh and no focus breathing. The only thing I hope they do is provide firmware for the R6 MKII so we can use the iris ring in photo mode although it's not a deal breaker. Hope the next lens in this series they release is the RF 85mm f1.4L VCM that's the only lens to make up the lens I need and it's the next logical step for Canon.
I'm just waiting for Sigma to finally release their 70-200 f/2.8 in the RF mount, which they already did for Sony E and L-mount. But that will probably be a year or two later.

I do wonder if I would have bought my 50 1.2 if the 1.4 existed at the same time.
What happened to the podcast? I find it, I binge it, and no more episodes 😢
It's going to be re-launched. We had to relocate to a new studio. Keep your eyes open. Should be up by the end of the year.

It may never happen. At the moment, Sigma is only allowed to make APS-C lenses for the RF mount.
