- PLANTING TOMATOES 🌻 AUTOPOTS 🌻 AQUAVALVE5. In the greenhouse we begin planting tomatoes. Autopots are being used together with the bigger and better AQUAvalve5. This is a self watering system that requires no pump and the water is monitored automatically by the AQUAvalve5. Being a modular system it is easily expandable to suit all growing needs, both hydroponics or conventional capillary/wicking methods. Sit back and ENJOY!!!

Nice one Nigel. I do like the Autopot system and I was going to upgrade to the aquavalve 5. I didn't bother in the end as all of mine are outdoors anyway so the planters get a bit of help from the weather - just like now, chucking it down! Like I said before, I am a coco coir/clayballs man so I need to keep an eye on the feed in the reservoir a bit more carefully.

What a great video. I've been thinking for awhile of setting up a Dutch bucket system for my tomatoes. The only difference would be that the solution would recirculate using my solar pump I bought from one of your earlier videos (Malvern show). I'll be watching to see how your toms go. Cheers.

Hi Rob, if your system works for you then I totally agree👍🏻. Having used both systems, for me this is better. I got more even root growth, tank top ups are less often and it is expandable by a single pot each time into multiple shapes to suit space. The base footprint is quite large on the QUADGROW because it carries 2 pots (or 4 depending on model) That is why I built my own system to maximise space on my greenhouse staging - 16 pots. These are only my personal benefits that work for me. All the best Rob👍🏻
Hello mate looks a good bit of kit. How many pots can you run off that system? I suppose if you add more pots you’d need a bigger header tank. All the best Nic 👍

Yes… the big advantage also with bigger bore is the option to use thicker nutrients with less risk of blockage 😄👍🏻

Nigel I ordered the medium Vegepod last night, what would be your next recommendation on compost to fill it? Champions Blend is a bit out my price range at £20 for 50L. What would be the next one down you would recommend mate?

Hi Nigel, I have some of the original autopots and it's interesting to see the changes they've made to the new ones. Do you know if you can get replacement rubber stops for the original ones? I have tried to find these before, but maybe I just missed where the info is.

Hi Carl. For me, This on 3 points.. lasts longer between refills…. More even root distribution and more versatile as can add single pots. Both will do the job 😄👍🏻
