Hello mate, I intend to dump the manure on a different bed at the end of the season. As you say you can certainly see the difference 👍 🌻Nigel…………MuddyBootz Allotment🌻🌻
Hi Nigel I have put my leeks out and I have netted some and left some not netted, as for continuous sowing I like you have lettuce and spring onions plus some more beetroot now out, all looking good with you. All the best Wayne.
Hi Wayne, I find the late sowing of leeks tends to miss most of the pests, the only downside is that you crop much later. All the best 👍 🌻Nigel…………MuddyBootz Allotment🌻🌻
You are spot on .I can tell you it's been raining the last 2 days here in Ireland and even I noticed that the pumpkin in my polly tunnel it's leaves are raised to the sky's as if giving thanks 😊🙏
Great looking tomatoes mate. I'm well chuffed with mine this year, been harvesting them non stop, just haven't had time to do a video! I've not thought of foliar feeding so will look into that. All the best Nige from TOTP
I’ve seen lots of UA-cam gardeners planting crimson crush but that’s the first fruit I’ve seen, I must try them next year they look great. Thanks again.
Those onions are looking good Nigel. I was hoping you wouldn’t mention Charlotte potatoes, mine in the 20 litre buckets are pants, loads of small spuds. I think the problem was that I ran out of fish blood & bone and potato fertiliser. The same with the main crop, I’m sure that the 1 row in the ground will be ok🤞🤞. Lesson learnt for next year. Take care.
Hello Mark, I much prefer the smaller potatoes. Having just planted some for Xmas I am now wondering should I have held them back another few weeks? 🌻Nigel…………MuddyBootz Allotment🌻🌻
Marvellous Tomato plants..mine are not up to much this year growth and fruit wise..The Crimson crush I have outdoors have two trusses per plant and av 2 fruit per truss 😞 foliar feed seems like a good idea..im using liquid seaweed feed in home greenhouse and tomato plant food at plot, home ones are doing better..but that could be because they get more attention. I have some Ramrod seed to got sown and too many lettuce seedlings to prick out.
I have Allotment envy as always Nigel🙌🙌, and you have a wealth of growing knowledge💪💪 🪴, I take a lot from your channel, flit sprayer great idea! cheers rob
Wow! Those tomatoes look like small trees! I've grown some 'Crimson Crush' and eaten one already. Very nice flavour. 👌 I hope blight stays away although mine are inside the greenhouse.
Hello Steve, the tomatoes both inside and out have done well this season. The outdoor ones are benefiting from the cow manure that had seeped into the soil. 👍 🌻Nigel…………MuddyBootz Allotment🌻🌻
Hi Mark, I can certainly see the benefit with the foliar feed. The leaves do not have to take it all the way up through the stem. 👍 🌻Nigel…………MuddyBootz Allotment🌻🌻
Hi Nigel, I thought I was doing something wrong with the crimson crush they always seem to grow funny in comparison to other tomato plants but having seen yours it must be the variety, i've already had a few off my plants and they do taste nice but I have grown Alicante this year also and I think they are better, Take care.
@@cew9837 Having grown most of the popular varieties over the years, I always return to Crimson Crush as my favourite for taste. I think they taste better grown outdoors but that is probably due to the trace elements in the soil. The other reason I grow them is resistant to blight. Having had a full crop of Alicante wiped out over night, I know this is very unlikely with these. 😀 🌻 Nigel.....MuddyBootz Allotment 🌻🌻

Hi Nigel, yes I know what you mean about the rain and plant growth. I think it has a lot to do with the chemicals they put in our town water and rain water is a lot softer. I noticed you use string to tie up your tomatoes. Are you not concerned about the string cutting into the plants. I use strips torn out of an old sheet. What works really well are strips cut from woman's nylons as they has the elasticity to stretch a bit. We are still in lockdown for a least another 4 weeks with covid here, so keep making those videos mate. Cheers from Aus.
Hi Keith, the tomato branches have plenty of movement how I have tied them so should be fine, but I like the idea of the nylons..... 👌👍 Lockdown has been a strain on most people, I just hope things dont take a backward step now the rules have been relaxed over here. Stay safe paL 👍 🌻 Nigel.....MuddyBootz Allotment 🌻🌻
Aye up, Nigel. If you think Rainstorms/Thunderstorms put a spurt of growth Into plants, you're right. When lightning burns through the air, it's so hot that it causes Nitrogen molicules to separate from the air and mix with the rain. It's called nitrogen fixation. It releases huge quantities and that's why everything looks so green and healthy. It's not in your imagination. It's a great gift.
i favour foliar feeding, specially before we start cutting the leaves of tomatos back for air flow. seaweed extract is my favourite fed. how many trusses do you allow outdoor tomatoes produce? i personally stick to three to allow them all to ripen. i've never seen your flit sprayer before. could be a good investment, nigel. my next video will show WHY i shut the polytunnel door at night..............brian
Hi mate, for me the number of trusses depends on the variety. Normally it is 4 max but with the cherry type I let them hit the greenhouse roof before stopping them 😀👍 🌻 Nigel.....MuddyBootz Allotment 🌻🌻
Hi Nigel this is the first time I have commented on your channel but I have been watching for a couple of years now and you and Charles Dowding are my go to gardeners. Just a comment about your tomatoes, I have to say that I am suffering a bit of tomato envy at the moment. I garden in New Zealand and we have the dreaded tomato/potato psyllid, it's so bad that I have pretty much given up growing tomatoes and only plant first early potatoes as they can be out of the ground before the demon fly can do too much damage. I assume that UK gardeners are lucky enough not to have it.
@@MuddyBootz Yes I have, at one stage all my vegetables were grown in tubs but it made no difference to the psyllid infestation as they are tiny flies and get everywhere, laying their eggs in the soil in the late autumn and popping out in the early summer. Netting can minimise the damage but it's hard to net an 8 foot tomato.
@@judithfoote6291 Try and locate some ultra fine insect mesh. Here in the UK I get mine from here. www.easynets.co.uk/product.asp?ProductID=121&ProductName=2.2m_wide__fine_Insect_Net&CategoryID=21.
