The most humble pro goalkeeper
Appreciate that mate!
@@ConorOKeefe humble reply
Is probably ben foster
Ben... Maybe second
@@bharatparashar2765 yeah I've never seen this goalkeeper so thats why i was saying ben is 1st
Honestly Conor is one of the most hardworking goalkeepers I've seen on UA-cam. Keep up the good work mate.
Thank you mate, very kind of you!!
Okay but I have a game tomorrow and am still thinking of what to do to draw attention to my place
@@ConorOKeefe sir
EXCELLENT VIDEO! Great informative and concise details. The use of visual examples across a variety of contexts is significant for developing goalkeepers. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Thanks so much! Really appreciate that, and I hope that it can bring value to people!
This is by far one of the best explained 1v1-videos out there. Short, consis and visual and still manages to cover the most important aspects about 1v1 - an aspect of the GK that is highly underated and not focused enough on.
Well done, keep it up.
This is the most in depth video I’ve ever seen specific to 1v1s and I love it. There’s so many “best ways” to do 1v1s but this is the only one that encompasses all scenarios with explanations backing it up. Thank you for what you do!
You’re welcome! Thank you for such a great comment!
Great analysis. Personally I prefer the block. It makes me feel more comfortable and not to worry about my rights foot (torn ligaments and still worry about it since I'm under 15 in a very very physical league- peterbourgh league) and it seems to work better than them techniques for me :)
That's great, it's important to know what works best for you!
@@ConorOKeefe keep up the work 🙌💙
I've been waiting for that for a loooooong time. Thanks! You da best.
Thanks mate, hope it's worth the wait!
@@ConorOKeefe Totally 100%
I’ll watch this right after the Lionel Messi press conference. He’s breaking my heart right now. I can’t believe he’s leaving😭😭😭
Sad life
He didnt want to leave..
This has got to be THE MOST beneficial goalkeeper tutorial I’ve ever seen
Love that!! Thank you, really glad that you found it helpful!
I think I will watch this video every once in a while just to remember thoose techiques. Maybe, one of the most useful videos I've seen. Great Work! 💪
Thanks Leki!! Really appreciate that!
Thank you! Also it's impressive the amount of visual examples you used here. Really helpful, Conor
Thanks Luiz! I hope it helps!
Love the analysis kind of video, keep up the top work con 👏
Thanks Morgan!
Fantastic Video! I watched it when it first came out and know just re watched it and I will keeping rewatching every few weeks for a while just to keep it fresh in the mind. Thanks for the uploads!
Thanks so much Caden! Really glad you find it helpful
A topvideo! Perhaps one of my favorites! I saw the evolution in techniques when my son started with GKtraining: nowadays they learn these before they are 10. This is a great overview. Combining this data and your experience. 👍🏻
Thank you Bruno, I really appreciate that, and I'm really glad that you enjoyed it!
Amazing! Great breakdown of each technique. One of things you know, but struggle to explain in training without a good visual in this video. Thank you sir!
Thanks Kyle! really appreciate that!
this deserves more views, so informative and humble
Thanks Bastien!
Excellent video, Connor! This should be essential viewing for young keepers. Not only good for understanding technique, but also for evaluating data. I’d love to see a follow up demonstrating training options (or your team session examples) for each of the techniques. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Alan, and good idea! I will see what I can find on drills that might help with the techniques!
Great video. Exactly the info I was looking for. Thanks 👍
You're welcome, glad you found it helpful!
Thanks Conor really informative and helpful! Best of Luck for the season!
Thank you mate! Glad you found it valuable!
Thanks for the analysis. You brought us a lot of value as always. Spread saves always work for me, and smothers are pretty dangerous depending on the striker's experience.
Thanks Dimitris!
Great video, really informative and well done! Thanks for the solid content as always
Thanks Luke, I really appreciate that!
Quality video con! As always
Thanks Kai!
Thanks a lot for this video! I really appreciate it because you backed up your recommendations with both first hand experience and a scientific analysis of the problem made by a qualified expert. You're such a great mentor and I'll look for more content made by you using this approach. Have a great week and best regards!
Thank you mate! Really glad that you enjoyed it!
Very useful tips, Conor. I wish you're doing very well in the new season. Cheers, man.
Thanks mate!
i don’t know if you’ll ever see this comment, but this is absolutely the best video i have ever seen for a 1v1 lesson. thank you so much!
Ah thanks so much Jaden! I really appreciate that mate!
Great video. This is really going to help my Goalkeeping as 1v1s are probably my weakest area. All the best for this season Conor!
Thanks Luigi, really hope it helps!
Thanks for breaking down when to use which technique, super helpful, data is a nice touch. Exactly what I needed, I might as well print these out and put them on my wall.
I hope it helps! Thanks Alex!
Love this video man 🙌
Thanks Alex! I'm glad you like it!
Thanks a lot Conor I wrote all the the key facts of every technique mentioned in the video on a piece of paper so I don’t forget all of the information needed. I’m sure your help will help me get better at 1v1s thanks a lot mate

Such a great analysis video! thanks a thousand!
Thank you mate, I really appreciate that!
Ur insane mate keep up the grind im a goalkeeper and to me ur an inspiration ❤️❤️💪💪
Thanks so much mate!
One thing to add to the smother technique is lifting your upper leg to stop a cutback with the ball. Won a lot of 1 on 1's that way.
One thing I do not particularly like about the spread save is the loss of mobility. I guess that is why it works right in front of the goal. The real reason I do not use it is that I am nowhere flexible enough to do it anymore (I am 52 and still play indoor). It hurts just to see it.
As an older keeper, I have seen how techniques have changed over time. For instance, the way you do a smother save is different now than 40 years ago. I was taught to kind of roll over with the ball in a smother exposing my back (and kidneys) to the player. Although that technique was lots of fun to the extent that your opponents would go flying over you, it really was dangerous!
A great point you make in the smother is the more hesitant you are, the more dangerous the save is. If you go in strong, it is the opposing player that needs to worry (and if he is smart--back off). As I am an amateur, it is almost fun to know that a really good player is going to be coming in hard on me because I know then that I have to come on hard right back at him. The adrenaline pumps, and it is game on!
Although there are adjustments you have to make going back to outdoor, I really like indoor for getting lots of practice at 1v1s, and of course, you get practice at chaos in front of a goal. Indoor is great practice for reaction reaction saves too. The funniest and most worrisome habit of mine from indoor is that I have to worry about a deflection off the wall hitting me in the back and going into a goal. So sometimes, if I am pretty sure a ball is going over the goal but it might be close, I pull off and kind of duck to avoid the bounce back deflection. Imagine playing outdoor and even slightly hesitating like that as a ball went into the goal! So that is one of the more embarrassing risks of going from indoor to outdoor! (Other big transitions you have to get used to defending powerful crosses and real corners. You just do not get stuff like that in an indoor game.)
What a great comment! Brilliant to hear your opinion on how the position has changed, and the differences between indoor & outdoor football - I'm sure lots of people will take a lot from that, so thank you!
thanks a lot I'm learning so much.
great video and very well explained Conor thank you
Thanks Paul!
Thank you thank you thank you sir it is very helpful and informative to me 🤩❤️❤️❤️❤️

Thank you mate!!
Thanks. I want more videos like that!
More will be coming soon!
I am waiting for it👀

Great content, I agree about the smother. It seems like hindsight on most goals I look back on my first thought is "I should of smothered that one".
Thank you Chris!
Love your vidoes I tend to struggle with kept 1v1 so thanks
I hope it helps!!
Thanks conor this video helped a lot.
Thanks Ville, glad you liked it!

Thanks Felipe
Cheers for the video
Hope you enjoy it!
Great guidance and tips here Conor - thank you 🙏🏼
Thanks Henry, appreciate that, hope it helps!
Hi Henry
@@ogbonnaclinton-md2nz Hi 👋🏼
Great video extremely informative, as some of these techniques can lead to injuries, what’s the worst injury you have ever received as a goalkeeper
They shouldn't really lead to injuries! They are safe techniques to use!
@@ConorOKeefe I’ve used them all over the last 25 years and I have got injuries at times, from concussions to torn ligaments, I agree there good techniques was just interested in what you would say has been your worst injury in your career
@@buggyman95 when I’ve used the smother technique, I have got some hits and hard challenges against me, but I have never got an injury using the other techniques(except for when the striker steps on your body with the spread technique).
I'm for real mad when I started out with goalkeeping I was always on 1 v 1 I used the spread but my goalkeeping coach said the next year (after I won MVP) that the spread is a useless technique and we should use the smother. I have never liked the smothering technique and have had it hard to be a keeper the last few years. But now it can finally change because now I know that the spread is often the most effective and I don't need to risk my life whenever I make a save.
The data doesn't lie! Hope the video helps to give you the confidence to pick the right technique! Keep up the great work mate
Thanks brother ❤❤❤
No problem, hope you enjoy it!
Haha wished I've seen this before yesterday! I was way off a couple of times 🤣
You live and learn
Next time!!

Such a great GK UA-cam channel
Thanks Jonny!!
Thankyou sir for Sharing this I surely work on this and This week's report worked on My passing and first touch. And also Working on my height increase Stretching healthy diet ahe good amount of sleep
Really helpful video conor !
I think that you do the same fault at the spread technique as I do . Your centre of gravity is not Attacking the ball thus you fall behind instead of staying big attacking the ball.
P.s I cannot describe it as well as I want , I hope you understand What I mean
Keep up the good work , you are the best !
Thanks Aris!
I'm about to keep my first match so thank you so much
Good luck!!
idol spirit🤩🤩💪
Thanks
I just wanna say you’re doing good.👍 ❤
I was wondering about whether the collored area is where the shot comes from or where the keeper is standing? Great video Con👍
I think it is where the shot is taken from!
Hey conor love ur videos bruv.can u make a video on how to scoop low balls
thanks
I’m going to use this info for my next match hopefully it will help as we have just transitioned into U13
I hope it helps!
maan ty
I love it
Thanks mate!
Fantastic analysis. I'm a personal fan of the smother, but then again I'm a pretty big guy so people tend to back off when they see me running at them lol
GK communication next please!
Always helps!!
How often do you do hip stretches like the splits? Great video Conor! 🔥
I stretch every day pretty much!!
Impressive man, i Subscribed it✨...
Thanks mate, welcome!!
Yes
Good video
Thanks Paul, appreciate that mate!
I haven't seen your channel from months (due to work) but this notification really got me.
Although I haven't played sence months but this stupid game is running in my head all the time.
I know this video won't be of any help in my future or career but that is the beauty of this game. Once we fell in love with this game, it doesn't get out of our head.
And Conor is really giving quality videos. Thank you Conor for sharing your knowledge about the game through this channel. Keep up the good work 👍❤️
Thanks mate! I appreciate that, and I hope that you are enjoying the videos!
Amazing video Conor, I've been trying to get the spread down for a while now, do you have any recommendations on what to do whilst trying to improve flexibility
I have a video called Stretching Routine for Goalkeepers that should be able to help!!
i think you should included where the keepers should position itself when dealing with 1v1 in general, still a great video though
Hey Con great explanation as usual, my 16 yr old son needs some advice on how to train and improve his flexibility for the split save.
Could you recommend some exercises you have used in the past for this or video ep if you have previously shown some?
Keep it up
Hi Geoff, yes, I have a video on my channel called Stretching Routine for Goalkeepers that should be able to help!
Thanks Conor, We have already watched your video as we are back in lock down in Melbourne Australia.
Really appreciate the work you do and the fact you’re willing to help junior players with pro advice.
Many thanks
Thanks you so much wanna be a goalie do you have gloves suggestions
I wear Kaliaaer gloves! They are brilliant, the link to their website is in the video description, and you can use the discount code OKEEFE to save money on them too!

Hi
When people get really close I usually guess. I think I have to work on that one.
I think con reads minds👀
Nice tips..so I can use it on the match...
One more favor please..a tips for facing a crossing...about positioning..
Will try and do one on crossing soon!
@@ConorOKeefe thank's mate...hope u have a great career..
Btw..what should we eat before the game for GK..for better perfomance n energy..
Hey man thank you so much, this video helped me a lot but the main reason I was looking out for these vids are bcs I wanted to learn how to do the spread save, and what stretching should i do for it. I've already been following ur daily streching routine from the past week just wanted to know of htts enough?
Yeah that routine will be more than enough! Keep it up, and you will see the difference over the next few months
@ConorOKeefe thank you so much man, keep going mate.
Damn son that will help my game a lot 😉
I hope so!!
