Fashion is about 'Feeling' and combining a dope look. Consuming for 'Hype' is a loser mentality. Spend cuz u genuinely like what u see and not because a celebrity is wearing it.
I think streetwear is just some people's style preference. The masses might not pay as much attention to specific branding but it'll never really "die". Growing up in Jersey, during the early 80's, it was definitely more niche but I still saw a lot of elements incorporated into what almost everyone my age wore. When I transplanted to Cali in the late 80's what's considered streetwear nowadays was basically the way everyone dressed in one form or another. It was very interesting watching streetwear evolve for 40 some odd years. It'll probably stay low key in a lot of people's rotation and maybe cycle back with some brands and designs reaching viral trending status again in 5-10 years...give or take.
THANK YOU! What a wonderful mini- documentary. I've always gravitated towards streetwear not realizing that's what it was. I worked for Russell Simmons for a while so had access to a lot of Baby Phat, but more than that I remembered always loving Triple 5 Soul.
I’m tired of lame nerds saying what’s in and out wear what you like buy what you like plain and simple look how many times styles come back around nothing is new under the sun
Ecko, Stussy, Southpole, The Hundreds, LRG, Rocawear, Anchor Blue, Tribal Streetwear, Pink Dolphin and other similiar brands are still selling depending on the style. Now it's that y2k Demon swag people are going for like Ed Hardy, Affliction and anything with crazy skulls ot crosses
If it wasn’t for jean-michel basquiat, there wouldn’t be any streetwear brand Shawn Stussy had to adapt so he brought that reggae hip-hop influence to his audience, he had no choice. You can’t name any Caucasian brand that does not influence from Melanated kids in the New York City
As an old fart that grew up skating in the 80s, chasing tail while listening to the Geto Boys in the 90s. We didn't call it Streetwear, and whatever it was died in the 90s. What followed was the fashion business of FOMO. A big thing for us back then was the brand couldn't be mainstream or you were using it in a way that it wasn't designed. An example is Jordan 1 sneakers to skate or military fatigue pants because they were baggy. The only mainstream brands I really remember people using as intended were Carhartt and Levi's jackets. The Levi's was usually covered in patches, buttons, and safety pins. Both were usually scuffed and dirty.
Streetwear suck now it's not like the (1990's) & early mid (2000's) . It's all about European fashion now thanks to Kanye's Kardashian's was. "Gucci & Louis Vutton , Prada , Burberry , Fendi , BGBG , all day now.😊😊😊 I still got a Fubu & Echo Unlimited jerseys & jacket in my crib and it's (2024) going on (2025).😮😮

It isn't dying. It's just global and not exclusive in the internet age.
Agreed
Been DIY my own stuff since forever and I ALWAYS get compliments all over the continent
I have a career ,I just love the art 🎨
I remember 555 Soul and Walker Wear, Starter jacket, Lee, suede sweater front jacket, Wallabee Clarks(still in style) Puma suede, Adidas campus, Britisher shoes, camouflage pant....
I’ll be rocking streetwear into my 80s!
главное не голый
No you won't. You'll get into your 30s and start buying less flashy clothes that cost more.
@ I’m in my 40s. And you’re absolutely right. Less flashy, quality clothes, but STILL STREET. No matter what. Bury me in some Yohji. Thanks.
Fresh Jive was an early street wear brand that hardly gets a mention, but their clothes were very popular in the mid 90’s.

This is a very realistic take. People seem to forget the 20 year rule in fashion.
It’s not dying, it’s evolving. Nothing stays the same forever.
I agree, I think the cycle will turn back to its roots with smaller diy brands.

Nothing worth buying will go unsold.
That’s a great way of putting it

I miss this days In glad to have been a teen in the 90' and in my 20's in the 00's when this streetwear shit was going on.
Street wear will never die most people wear it and prefer it than other wear!
Underrated channel
There will also be "the street" and fashion, so yea streetwear will survive and carry on
Streetwear is gonna be always there, what died was hypebeast culture or at least some brands but fashion in general is a cycle.
Streetwear will never die to many new designer... golden era was the best more originality
Would love to hear the story of King Stampede. Was one of my favorite brands. I see almost zero info on them online, mystery brand

Man I miss the old streetwear brands like diamond supply and pink dolphin
Oh you said high fashion houses ruined streetwear, corporate greed can’t squeeze it no more?!

It never really dies
DIG THE VID - HAD TO SUB - KEEP EM COMIN - MY DUDE... ( : ) ) ... MAHALO...
You know what trend is really dead?
People making videos saying xyz is dead.
Especially sneakers.
It will always be a thing… but most street wearers I know grew up and moved on. There will always be a new generation to sell to
