Why is Neil Innes’ participation here underplayed? I can’t say that his name is never mentioned (it’s mentioned in the vintage audio at the end to the same extent Adolph Hitler’s name is mentioned), but his name’s never displayed, he’s not interviewed. But he clearly was an important part (and apparently also MC?) of the live performance shown here [and presumably also of the “Little Help” CD]. (Who else could play lead guitar on “Canyons”? And there’s audio of his live rendition of “Urban Spaceman...”) Is his role downplayed because he’s not going to be part of the Nov 19 show? Or does he (or someone else) just want to make sure the focus is more on the other members rather than on him?
It's not the same, but this Stephen Fry guy does a decent job (10:32). With a few more original members (Innes, Spear), and less extras, it could have come closer.
@@jeffr.5717 I went to see the show at Shepherds Bush Empire and the inclusion of Stephen Fry, Paul Merton, Phil Jupitas and Ade Edmondson was a bit more for putting bums on seats rather than enhancing the band, although I thought that Ade did a good job and Phil seemed so happy to be playing with some of his heroes when we spoke in the after show wind down in the bar. The 2016 tour was much better, after a weeks rehearsing in Blakeney, with Tim Brooke Taylor showing up at The Palladium gig to sing Hunting Tigers, for some reason. Bonzo stalwarts Vernon, Sam, Legs, Rodney and Bob Kerr did the complete tour of 9 gigs and the band went down well everywhere with Mike Livesley doing the Viv bits, not easy.........
@@jamesappleton7390 Actually he IS there (next to Rodney, in "The intro & the Outro") but for some reason he is not mentioned or interviewed. Very strange.
So depressing to watch this mess. Ridiculous without Viv, like watching the Stones without Jagger, can't be done and doesn't make sense. Don't know what the ticket prices were, but if they paid more than a fiver they were ripped off. Wish I hadn't watched it now, but it sort of hypnotised me because it was so bad. Sorry, but that was dreadful.
These new 'comedians' (I use the word loosely) are not a patch on Viv. I saw the original Bonzos and these replacements bunched together are nowhere near Viv. You should leave it alone guys, thanks for the memories.
So glad that Viv never sold out to satirical "quiz" progs like they all do. This is flat and empty without the the genius.

The sweet essence of giraffe
The sweet essence of giraffe is sour without Viv.
Rodney Slater is my favorite Bonzo
What about his parrot!
At least they finished it off with Viv's voice doing the intro/outro.
But really it was just a rehash of Gorilla, live!

Neil Innes did not take part in the London Palladium concert 19th November
Where was Neil Innes? I can't understand why he wasn't in the show, ...did he decline to take part?
Neil had other commitments when we did that tour..
@@jamesappleton7390 do you have any snippets to share? not to sound disrespectful, which one are you, !? please Sir
@@harvey1954 No Harvey, it was Dave Glasson on piano on the whole tour in 2016...
Stephen Fry is a comedic genius but no one can match Viv.
Sorry, but it doesn't work without Vivian
I totally agree. This get together were trying far too hard to be amusing, but it didn't work.

Is phil Jupifatarse funny ?
johnwantling l agree
Does anyone know anything about the piano music that plays from about 1 min in and if it is in print ?
Music from Rawlinson End. If that helps?
This 'Vivian Stanshall' is obviously a different man than the original one in the 1960s.
The original Viv in the 1960s is now 'Paul McCartney'.
Where was Roger Ruskin Spear?
He didn't want to do it Pete...
Sad, unfortunate. He's done other somewhat recent reunion thingys...

So: a substantial success, or a sub-Stanshall failure? The polls are open ....
Lots of mis-information there
Paul Merton so always so self aware and bloody boring
Oh dear, this is embarrassingly bad. What on earth were they thinking of rehashing their stuff with all these awful unfunny celebs?
