- In this epic adventure, Jonathan investigates the resurgence in the New England Gray Seal population that is happening after more than 40 years of protection under the Marine Mammal Protection Act. He joins a team of NOAA researchers on Muskeget Island near Nantucket who are studying the population growth with aerial surveys during the pupping season. He dives with seals at the Isles-of-Shoals in Maine and learns how the seals affect the other populations in the ocean such as fish and sharks. Not everyone is thrilled about the return of the seals, but they sure are adorable and curious!

How sad that humans seem to believe that they have the right to exterminate any wildlife they don't want to be around. We should learn to be respectful of all wildlife because it is their planet too. It's good to see that these seals are making a come back. Thank You Jonathan Bird for all you do to educate us all about the incredible oceans and the creatures that live in them

I was surprised to see that a visual of a dead seal pup was included, and the only audio commentary was, "Some of them don't make it." When I saw the shot, I expected to hear more detail. I thought we'd hear about the most common or most pressing threats faced by juvenile grey seals, or perhaps a description of what had likely happened to the one shown.

Referring to seals as underwater dogs isn't too far off when they're adolescents. Their behavior does change significantly once they've grown up IMO. I liked the contrast of the red seaweed against the murky blue water, made for a great backdrop for the seal antics. Thanks for showing us the protected island and its baby seals, that's not something you get to see every day.
We spent time with wild seals at Baird Bay South Australia. One would nibble my bare feet. Lol There was another that played with a dive belt and allowed us to put our arms around him and give him a kiss. Only one individual would do this. Wild but friendly. Great video again. Thanks.

Hi, Jonathan. Greetings from Panama (Central America, not Florida!)!! Me and my family are great fans. Me and my kids (14 & 15) are certified divers, and we constantly watch your videos together (my wife joins also, even though she is not a diver). If you ever come down to Panama with your family, let me know, we can dive together. There are many great dive spots here, especially Coiba National Park. Plus, Panama is the only place in the world you can dive in the Pacific Ocean, a Lake, a river and the Caribbean in the same day! Anyway, keep up the great work!

@@BlueWorldTV apart from the typical (not so typical really, but typical for us locals) whalesharks, humpbacks, and hordes of hammerheads migrating, saltwater crocs (or alligators; can never tell which is which! Sorry!), as well as the more rare (orcas), doing something with the Smithsonian Tropical Research Center located inside the national park could be interesting.
If you need a contact for the Smithsonian here, I know one of their marine biologists (my company sponsored her for something unrelated)
