Video games have always been a playground where I can see the progression of my abilities. When I reflect on my gaming experiences, I can notice the development of something I call my "need for competence". Let me talk about it and share with you What Video Games Taught Me. Head Full Thoughts Only.

So this is one of those experimental videos I mentioned. It's not designed to purposefully teach something new, but rather be a discussion topic I just wanted to share with you all :)

Ahh yes. The continuously running into the wall until I break through trick, a cunning strategy.
Also known as "you have to be right a 100x while I only have to be right once."

To me, what video games taught me was accepting what occurred in life. Can’t change the past, but would be able to help develop future possibilities.

"Accepting defeat is not the same as admitting your worthlessness" is a lesson I wish had been hammered into my head growing up. Sometimes it feels like my life is nothing but constantly running away from my failures, and sinking into depression whenever I inevitably fail. I keep seeking challenges to validate myself, but feel nothing but frustration when I inevitably fail on the road to overcoming them. It gets to the point where even achieving something great feels completely hollow, like I know that it means I just have to move on to the next challenge and continue with this downward spiral all over again.
Although, I've managed to find value in the connections I've built on my road to mastery. Both in real life, moving from playing the piano to basketball to HEMA as my hobby of choice, and in videogames, moving from singleplayer action to MOBA to fighting games. I've found that the people I met on my road to self-improvement were the things that would stick with me. I found it much more fulfilling not to challenge myself against an impossible goal, but against a fellow human.
I think the lesson life is trying to teach me is that mastery, by itself, is worthless. It's just one of the tools that you can use to achieve a good life. And honestly, even though my self-loathing will probably never truly leave me, I've found it much more bearable when I know that I'm not alone one my journey, whatever that journey may be.
I hope my experience can be valuable for whomever is reading this comment.

Honestly with all this wonderful content, you should have blown up by now. I got here from the first Dante analysis video and have been watching a lot of your content since the start of your channel when you focused on League. Keep up the good work though!

Games taught me to always shot the red barrels, problem solving skills, hand eye coordination, what music I like and to pay attention when people are speaking but the only part that matters is to shoot the red Barrel

Video games were my least harmful coping tool throughout a period in my life that left me struggling with chronic depression, PTSD, anxiety, severe physical disability, etc.. I'd argue they saved my life. Or at least bought me enough time to save myself.
Luckily I grew up with a GameCube, and an immense library of games to choose from.

I did something similar to running into a wall with a lot of games. I didn't realize in a lot of games how many moves there were so I beat a lot of video games taking all the damage and doing little to none. Pulling off a boss's fight at that time were very annoying but accomplishing. I wasn't aware of many gameplay aspects of darksiders I just beat it with the original combo and special attack, of course I got dogged on many times, and of course I got insanely pisssd off. However the final boss dying after 4 days of fighting him was such a good feeling

I can relate to everything here except the ranked League experience XD. PvP tilts me to an unhealthy degree that I’ve decided to avoid it wherever possible. But everything else in this video is not only relatable but was literally my experience growing up.

Video games taught how to make an outlet for all my shitty thoughts, and it helped through a lot of hard times.

Unfortunately... This is hard for me... Yet I've done only the Gary part in life (Conquer the wall given to you). My family never much let play, it's always work here, school there.
All work on no play makes Jack a dull boy.
My edges felt dull, especially now that the pandemic halted my Spehiroth-phase (To seek and keep seeking adversity even after finish).
I wanted to re-train my self on what "Ready Play One" was conveying... Don't play to finish, play to play and keep playing... Find secrets, objectives, etc. Much like in life, don't live for a goal... But for a journey, an adventure, discover and have curiosity (only a little to avoid too much dangers).
However, I've become a pessimistic realist and closed my heart these matters. I grew up losing that old thrill that I once had. I just hope one day... Opportunities will present themselves again and could go back on being DETERMINED to keep up.
