The media was shocked when Jin had his enlistment ceremony and not a single ARMY showed up. Why? Because Jin asked them not to come.

I think one of the handful of fans who did come was someone who flew across from Hong Kong; in which case I will not begrudge that person. I like the quoted comment from one of the journalists - "they do what their singers asked because their singers are kind"

Many fans have seen BTS individually in restaurants, walking or visiting with family. The Army rule is protect their privacy and no matter what do not bring attention to them. It's pretty cool! They give us so much, we can give them public privacy.

ARMYs are so kind, gentle and amazing! I experienced this firsthand in Busan 💜 My first ever concert in my whole life was YTC in Busan. Organization was lacking, I was hopelessly lost, my Korean was limited and I was tired and on the verge of tears (awake for 48 hours by then). A random K-ARMY saw me, we had very patchy communication of mixed English and Korean and she just grabbed my hand and went like, you know what, you're coming with me. And she literally adopted me for the next 2 hours until it was time for me to line up to enter the standing area. 🥺 Took (dragged) me with her, shared food and water, stickers and photocards.
After the concert, someone came up to me and asked, your first time? And handed me water and gummy bears, saying, you need sugar. Drink slowly. You ok now? Ok you can go home? Ok good. Take care. Borahae 🥺
    Faith in humanity: restored 🙏🏻💜

Let me speak from my experience. I have personally been part of efforts by Army fandom for a while now but something that really touched my heart was when my own country was impacted by floods, Armys from around the world supported. Since my country currency is weaker than a USD, with the conversion rates, most small donations became big for us. We ended up pooling amounts that were bigger than some of the government lead flood relief initiatives! It was allover news too!

I was casual listener since 2015, became ARMY 2017 after Not Today released. I have seen a lot of fandom culture, and met a lot of wonderful ARMY at events, concerts, meet ups, etc. I can say I have literally never seen a fandom as supportive of each other as ARMY. Example - I was at a concert and had traveled to get their, my phone did not charge on the plane when I had it plugged in, and was close to dead in line at the stadium. Random ARMY I did not know brought spoke up and down line to track down a portable charger from one person but her cable wouldn't work for my phone so found another person with the right cable type. People brought gifts and freebies for other attendees, organized the lines and parking lots when the stadium staff failed to do so (literally using ARMY Bombs to direct traffic lol), and many other examples from multiple occasions and concerts. I do avoid Twitter fandom in general though as I have seen too much in terms of fighting and toxicity - there are a lot of good parts of the fandom on there but the toxicity is loud and fast and so many people pretend to be ARMY to sow discord and attack people to create problems that I realized quickly it was not for me. I think the hard part is that online people can be completely anonymous and misrepresent, misdirect, and be overly toxic without repercussion

interesting take on the twitter armys part. i am a twitter army myself and my perspective would be that it is really critical to curate your timeline properly and have the circle of army friends online that you want that would also be able to motivate you to stream etc.. you need to create your timeline on twitter well. one thing i would say though is that i feel like being on twitter is really helpful for any tips on how to stream/vote and there are also lots of do's and don'ts e.g. dont use a playlist to stream the songs on youtube and other music platforms during the first 24 hours, search it up manually instead so that we can hit the highest streams.
and i feel like being on twitter helps A LOT for the voting portions of our fandom. if youre on twitter, there will be constant reminders to vote for our boys and that really helps in remembering and also the motivation to do your part for the boys. in my own experience, i havent really encountered much toxic armys on twitter, maybe because try to i surround myself with positive armys and curate my timeline carefully. i also just try to immediately block any toxics on there once they pop up. but once you are on army twitter long enough, you know who are the real ones and its much easier to shut out the ones who aren't here for bts.

i have 7 years in the fandom army and i can say that twitter sometimes drains my energy so much. i like the site because there armys are very funny, but the things i see people in the fandom do are pretty bad. i keep thinking "my god, what happened? why are armys being so mean when bts is not like that?" but i have to remember that it only takes knowing an army in real life to know the true face of the fandom. armys are mostly lovely people in my opinion
im also a fan of others kpop groups so i have experience in knowing the difference between bts fandom and a kpop fandom

I avoided Twitter practically since it's inception. It has been always soooo messy... And I'm not talking about ARMYS or BTS, this was years before, always a mess.
But when I started to learn more about BTS, I realized that Twitter was a place where ARMYS gathered and gave it a chance.
      Bug mistake, BIG mistake.
I saw that same toxicity and idiocy rampant there too, same or even worst mess.
So I deleted my account and never looked back.

I also have a big problem with stuff I see on instagram or youtube claiming to expose BTS members hitching up with other, I cant imagine how much these rumours must hurt them.

Here in the UK, one lady ARMY wanted to celebrate BTS and meet up with fellow fans, so she set up a facebook Group, and organised a first meeting a couple of years ago or so. A smallish group of fans went to London at the end of that January, though none of them had met before - I was not one of them.
Since then there have been several meetups, (two or three a year) from party bus events, or river boat parties. I've been to a couple, and quite frankly they turn into whole weekends, with get togethers on a Friday night, walks round central London with BTS standees, taking pictures at tourist spots, trips to Kpop shops, lunch at a Korean restaurant, and Karaoke nights. She is also planning a couple of events this summer to celebrate Festa. I'm an introvert, but I loved the two very raucous events I was able to go to - though they exhausted me for a week!
The membership of the FB group is now over 200 (and was larger, but many were inactive). Seems like every time there is an event the membership goes up, because we all have a very obvious great time. At one karaoke night, when we had sole use of a pub basement room, we had 'normal' people (who did not know BTS) coming down from the pub and joining in.
This weekend and the 24th there will be river cruises, all seven BTS members will be there. They will dance all day and all night long. People bring drink and soju and share it with strangers they never met before, pay for taxis, and generally look after each other - especially if you go alone, or have never been before. Such great kindness, with people arranging to share hotel rooms or giving lifts driving from Scotland to London to make it possible for everyone. There is even a Purple Fairy Fund to help if someone is strapped for cash.
There are also meet ups elsewhere, independent of that FB group, but people who know each other from the group. There is something this weekend in Glasgow and I know of one in a couple of months in Cambridge. Sadly I now don;t feel well enough to attend but I look forward to seeing peoples' photos and videos for vicarious enjoyment.
The US is very different, and distances much greater (though probably the cost of transport is cheaper), but I believe that you could set up your own meet - though I know it is actually a LOT of work. I'm sure though that you (or someone) could make it work. Enjoy. Oh and share a video!

Thank you for this reaction, John. I got interested in BTS because of their music and the window into their personalities afforded by their countless behind the scenes and variety shows. I am so amazed at their social conscience and moral courage that they showed from their debut and consistently demonstrated throughout the years. No wonder ARMY are inspired to be decent, generous and caring people. How impressive to see a fandom celebrate their favourite members' birthdays with charitable fundraising and good deeds. Fun fact for you since Epiphany was your epiphany (lol!) about BTS - in December 2021, ARMYs in Indonesia planted the Epiphany Forest in Kalimantan; their gift to Earth to celebrate Jin's birthday. In 2022 they planted 124 avocado trees and called the land Epiphany Forest 2 to help the ecosystem and economy of residents in the local village. No other fandom does this, to my knowledge.

Ι literally fell in love with BTS AND ARMY!!
I have so many stories that moved me personally and made me so so proud for the fandom.
I have a plethora of examples communicating through comments with Army's!Fabulous responds of intelligence, compassion and of course help understanding.Million attempts to resolve misunderstandings kindly and respectful with in it and always successful!!How awesome is that!!
But I need to point out one global known fact that happened these days and burst my heart with love, understanding and pride!!
Tae took a part in a kitchen show in Mexico that is airing now.
A sweet young Army went to eat at the restaurant and saw Tae. She didn't make a fuss, she enjoyed her food there and at the end she just wrote a note and left it at the table .The note said simply " I love you so much Kim Taehyung ❤"!! They passed the note to Tae and he was really moved. The actions of this Army went viral in the fandom who showered her with love and praises.
I personally laughed at the comment that asked her how she composed herself and some of them were frighten and unsured for themselves being in a situation like this.
Somebody then commented that it's alright and normal to feel that way but they believed in all of them and being sure*like history already proven* that in a circumstance like that even with the exitment they will all probably act like that cause of the respect and to believe in themselves. Well the answers were " Yes,We know" !Simple and adorable!!❤❤❤❤
    Love you guys!!
And allow me for some guidance !!Some baby armys (some pretty young too) often struggle through comments to express their thoughts "properly".And that is due to exitment, natural immaturity , mislead and inexperience! I came across a few and I totally comprehend the "misunderstanding". Please be more patient before attacking them! Discuss the issues with them kindly !!!I guarantee that you'll see and make the difference !

I've been a fan of many bands for decades but have never really felt that I was a part of their fanbases. The last time I felt I belonged to a fanbase was for the 1990's alternative rock band Dishwalla, beginning around 2002. Anyone remember them? However, I had sort of a falling out with that fandom a few years later & that band itself sort of "changed their sound" & replaced their lineup that I was not satisfied with, so I pretty much trickled out of that era slowly. I still love the OG Dishwalla songs though. In fact, John Reaves looks a LOT like JR Richards (of around 2002), the original Dishwalla lead vocal. Perhaps it could be fate that I am here because of this similarity? Because JR = John Reaves = John Robert "JR" Richards. Coincidence? I have even seen JR Richards with a beanie, just like John is here & the likeness is eerie.
So here I am as ARMY for a few years now & I think it's pretty cool. Add to this fact that social media is so much more rampant & widespread than it was 20 or 30 years ago, so there is always instant electronic communication in different ways. This includes internet platforms such as UA-cam, which did not exist 20 years ago either, where today we can all comment away, just as I am doing now, so that this adds to the atmosphere of belonging to a fanbase as everyone can read, reply & like (or dislike) each other instantly. And you do not have to leave the house just to be part of a fandom, just need Internet, heh.
Also, as far as BTS' cultural, social & political commentary in their songs, that basically started with Seo Taiji. Both BTS & Seo Taiji have risked their careers carrying socio-political context in their lyrics to the point where both artists have gotten backlash & censoring. No other bands in KPop-related circles have been as strongly opinionated & outspoken about the issues of the world than these 2 artists. I hope John can continue to react to more of Boracity Magazine, as her essays strongly evidence the power, metrics, culture, ethics & flex of BTS & its fanbase. Definitely world-changing for the better.

I believe JK grabbed Hobi and pulled him forward, then he kept his Arms around Hobi to help put him in a car, while random people were pulling on JKs backpack. I guess the car was actually JKs and Hobi snuck out the other side and ran to his while nobody was looking. I can't imagine the fear though of getting lost in the mob. The reason why ARMY are the way they are and they treat the Band with a lot of humanity is because many of us OGs saw them grow up with us...we saw them talk, laugh, cry and work like we were facetiming a family member and when your relationship grows so organically - you do treat them like a real person, not an object. We are a lot of diverse people but we have a common thread that we really try hard to respect them as human... That's probably why a wave a new fans especially after 2021 and covid has created some bad examples for their behaviour because these people are riding the wave - they don't actually understand ARMY & BTS relationship

This...I agree with 99.9% of it.
The only part that gets me is that we all know they all have siblings.
    Why?
    Because THEY have mentioned them.
Not by name...but they have talked about them.
Hobi mentioned his sisters' wedding. No one tried to find out where it was. No one tried to invade the ceremony. As far as I'm aware, anyway. At most, many DID post congratulations for her on Hobi's comments...and she actually IS a star in her own right! (she's an influencer with a make-up/beauty channel, if I remember correctly) So many do even know her name, we just don't say it.
Namjoon was talking about their debut. Someone commented BTS' debut date was their birthday...Namjoon said his sister's b-day was the same day.
They FILMED Hobi talking to his family one year - bawling his eyes out. He was on tour, couldn't be home, obviously didn't have any of his family with him...but they set up (basically) a Zoom call with him, his parents, and his sister...so he at least got to see and talk to them.
Jimin has often mentioned his "little brother".
Tae mentions his siblings - and cousins - often.
    Etc.
It's not some big secret that they *have* siblings...the "secret" is the names of those siblings...as, of course, not all of them have public figures that are blood related.
I love hearing those "sibling stories" when they're willing to share with us, but...nope...I will never ask - nor do I ever need to know - their NAMES, where their siblings live, what jobs they have, or...you know...anything else about them.

Love being Army. Me and my girls buy extra tickets to BTS concerts and give them away for free on social media to Army that couldnt afford/get them. We also buy extra merch and albums and give them away during the holidays to Army. The power of BTS and spreading love around the world will only grow. Some of our best Army friends we met were from doing this. We all now travel to New York together for kpop cup sleeve events and BTS visits/concerts. This fandom and group changes lives for the better. We purple you ARMYYYYY🫰💜🫰💜🫰💜🫰💜

One of the most recent events of ARMY showing respect for the guys privacy was when Jin came over to Argentina to have his solo debut on Coldplay's concert. There was a very small number of armies who knew where he was staying but didn't say anything, the fandom didn't go outside looking for him, we just hoped he was able to try as many national foods as possible and hoped he was having fun with Chris and the rest of the band. Even when one journalist decided to leak his location, ARMY decided to, not only, speak against it and call out how rude it was to invade someone privacy just for some clicks but also once again ENCOURAGE fans to not try to find him.
I've been part of the fandom since the early day of 2013, I cannot be more proud on how much our family has accomplished, how even with time and a massive growth we have managed to keep bts' values alive. Let's hope our future shines much brighter than our current days. 💜

I might be wrong but I think there’s a difference between private schedules versus public ones? I understood don’t mob them at private schedules where they don’t expect a mob, like when JK went to LA to record or go to the gym? But fan signs and concerts or other public schedules where crowds are expected, they are ready for the crowds and paparazzi? Not sure if I made sense but I guess I’d be ok with freaking out at public schedules? Haha

I was at d1 and d3 in LA sofi- 1st day was ridiculous - portapotties were overflowing, no barriers/line organization, they started to let us in too late etc. We ended up creating lines ourselves and kept order. I remember leaving parking and seeing an ARMY with an army bomb directing traffic to get out of the parking lots- no actual so fi staff to be seen.
And now after last night at Prudential Center - staff was rude and created a mob rush because there were lines established but staf disregarded them- putting ppl in danger and disregarding disabled fans. Just f-Ed up- any other fans- sports, music or otherwise would have created a riot if treated that way. I hope in the future that concert staff learn from ARMY.

That small percentage of toxic army or crazy or whatever they're called they have more impact on bts, they're the ones who don't listen to bts request of space and shove there phones right infront their faces at airports as if they can take pictures from far (i always wondered why airport security don't put barriers to keep them at bay and i think jk recent trip was good example) , or those fans don't respect their privacy and how they scared and annoyed jk at the hotel by calling his room or appearing at his gym until he stopped going, .even when bts ask them not to comment weird stuff constantly until it's annoyance. Untill last live they do it persistently.
Those so called fans won't even listen to their loved idols requests.

This was a very interesting video. Dimash Dears also do many acts of Charity in his name and protect his privacy. I am not part of an official fandom because I am not interested in social media, so the fandoms could be doing much that I know nothing about. In my opinion, Dimash fans are not as organized overall (more independant)or do not put as much effort and generosity towards each other like the BTS Army but I do know that many countries work together to promote Dimash and support each other efforts. Hopefully as Dimash gets better known perhaps his Dears can pick up some of the positive elements that BTS Army has. Dimash also promotes peace, positive messages, etc. but he is perhaps more intense, shy, and so far less about directing his Dears. Thank you for sharing this video. By the way, Back in the 60's, 70's, and 80's, it was normal to leave tables of merchandise unattended and all would pay into a box.🇨🇦 Dear

These boys give us so much of themselves with lives and run bts and in the soup. We need to give them the freedom to have downtime. They are people too. Also many of the toxic things I see in the fandom are solo, shippers or fake armies. People trolling as if they are fans but are really anti’s in disguise.

it feels like you're trying to put the fandom in a bad light, you never know what kind of people wrote to you, I can imagine how many times they did this to Jimin or ordinary fans, how it's different, it's the same madness, but it feels like the norm for everyone. you know, once upon a time I was something of a hater, it was a pity, but at that time, under the influence of anti-fans, I told everyone fake stories about how the army "wished me dead" for some harmless things, although this had never happened to me in my life, I even for all the time in the fandom, I have never seen anything like this, other anti created fan accounts and did so-called black PR

The amount of hate towards any other fandoms and even female idols/celebrities even if they just stand next to their idols is too much. I mean, good luck to the BTS guys when they’ll start coming out with their dating, let alone marriage. I would fear for my life. I’m not saying other fandoms are perfect in any way but Army outdoes every other fandom in terms of toxicity and deluluness.
