    After shooting my son playing Basketball for 10 years he has now started playing football. Thanks so much for some great tips to get started on the football pitch.

      The xt4 and xt3 work very well for sports. I'm interested to see of the Fuji rumours are true for the longer telephotos too. Might make some other sports more Fuji friendly too!

      If it's dark, don't be afraid to raise the ISO, sharp images and stopping the motion is more important than having some noise.

      Thanks. True, I'm fortunate enough now to have a good selection of lenses. A lot of what I've shot for football has been (prior to getting the 200mm) with an XT-3 and 100-400, which used, is a much cheaper combo. For Fuji the 100-400 isn't as old as some of the other systems like Canon, where a used 7dii and 100-400 can be found for ~£1000.

    • @SvenPries
      @SvenPries 3 роки тому +1

      @@5050viewmedia Right. I thought about buying that 100-400 as well (for the soccer matches of my sons team).
      Right now I am planning to use the 70-300 which will be lighter and thus more versatile (as a travel lense).
      The 50-140 hasn‘t got the reach I need for a soccer field and the 2xTC isn‘t my prefered option for a zoom lense ...

    I’m a Fuji XT3 with 50-140 lens. Can you pls share what is your go to focus setting for a football game?

    • @5050viewmedia
      @5050viewmedia  2 роки тому

      I use zone focus as the AF-mode, set to a mid sized area, top centre. Aiming for head height. I have the AF-C custom setting on set 2 'IGNORE OBSTACLES & CONTINUE TO TRACK SUBJECT'. I find that this helps due to players running through the field of view, as the camera is less likely to jump to someone else as they do it. I've used back button focusing in the past too, which another way of reducing the focus jumping should someone pass in front of you.

    Thanks for a great video. I was just asked to cover a match yesterday and I should have watched your video before!! lol. One question is how do you keep a record of photographing every player? Maybe I'm just old but in the excitement of getting good shots and managing the camera I found making sure I captured each player difficult. I also found my eye and brain (I'm English and have played football to university level and watched it intensely for almost 70 years) drawn to the most involved players. Thank you in advance and hope!! lol

    • @5050viewmedia
      @5050viewmedia  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks. I don't keep a physical list or anything, but the locations mentioned help. If you can relocate at half time, then choosing 2 different locations (like the sideline near halfway and behind the goal line) will increase the chance of getting everyone. When you're halfway along the pitch and remembering to try to capture faces then you'll get more of the defenders. Also, between play at whistles etc, work across the pitch left to right or vice versa and grab a picture of each player. They won't be action shots, but it'll be additional shots for some of the players that might not get as many shots on the ball. These are also useful for team/player social media etc. I hope that helps.

    Any tips to start photography for local clubs?

    • @5050viewmedia
      @5050viewmedia  3 роки тому

      It will depend a bit on what leagues/age groups, but some general tips would be;
      Before starting make sure you know what you can/can't do, and be transparent with the club about picture use. On the photo side, look for clean backgrounds, focus on a few better images rather than loads you'll just delete and if shooting jpeg, keep an eye on changing light conditions if it's outdoor and daytime.

    Hi, where can I get a tripod like that? Great video.

    • @5050viewmedia
      @5050viewmedia  3 роки тому +1

      The monopod I'm using? It's Manfrotto, I'm not sure of the exact model as it's all taped up so I can't see. It's an aluminium 3 section one. I use it without a head or anything, just straight into the lens tripod mount. It's quite old, so I don't think they sell that exact one, but it looks similar to the MMXPROA3 that Manfrotto currently does. When looking at monopods, look at stiffness as well as total payload limit. There are high payload monopods that don't have the same stiffness as others, which translates into a less steady setup.

      @5050viewmedia  3 роки тому

      @@georgesl7411 I think what you're after is a tripod lens collar. One thing to check for is if the lens can rotate in it, that way you can keep the camera level when leaning/panning on the tripod (if mounting it direct)

    RAW or JPEG?

    • @5050viewmedia
      @5050viewmedia  3 роки тому +1

      For football, definitely JPEG. I don't think I've come across a scenario where RAW would be necessary. In the era of EVFs, you'd have to have pretty bad technique to get it that far wrong that RAW is needed for recovery. The only thing for football where it could be of use is white balance, should you be shooting in natural light and the weather changes a lot during the game. But again, if you're using a camera with an EVF this is easy to spot.

    • @5050viewmedia
      @5050viewmedia  3 роки тому +1

      I should add, the benefits of JPEG (more shots in buffer, faster workflow in post etc) outweigh any advantage of RAW in this particular use case (in my opinion). Especially when you factor that printing at any size is unlikely for this type of photo. I do shoot raw for most other things I shoot.

      @@5050viewmedia i think that's why my burst was slow, i did it with RAW,should have done it with JPEG, alright thanks mate

    • @5050viewmedia
      @5050viewmedia  3 роки тому +1

      @@andristefanus Yeah, as an example, my XT4 buffer is about 110 frames when shooting at 15 FPS JPEG, Vs 35 RAW. That's the difference between capturing the shot/goal + celebration Vs the shot and watching a buffer clear!
