    Btw, if you ever were in the situation when objects stuck to a gun barrel (e.g. wall elements, boxes and so on) while you were aiming in the zoom mode, this can easily be avoided by unchecking the box in
    “Graphics” -> “Advanced” - “Improved damage physics “. I know this was very annoying for me, when you were sniping in your UDES 03 and one box finds a place to sit no other than on the barrel of the gun =)

      @@taugrim WOT is becoming more and more friendly towards new or returning gamers. They will integrate a ton of new features that can help easily navigate through skills, settings and so on.
      Oh I wish I could translate all the info about the new things that will be implemented in future. Here, in our region, WOT developers spend streams (last one was a couple days ago) with the most popular wot influencers, and tell to the whole community what will be integrated (well technically not all, bcs of the NDA, but still). They also receive new ideas and hearing out about critical issues that occur in the game as well.

      As a generation grown up with wasd as moving I did not find it annoying to use. Most 'gaming' keyboard now have some kind of 'indicators' (like those on F and J) on wasd.
      I use mouse wheel most of the times to switching between sniper mode, the wheel also controls the zoom.
      One thing I find really useful was to turn off the visual effect and grass in sniper mode. The 'newly' blown tank wreckage has flame and 'hot air distortion' on it, which is extremely annoy when used as a cover.

      The great news is that many of the features that used to only be available via addons - e.g. last spotted location, the circles for view range/max spotting/draw, etc - were incorporated by WG.
      There are probably still useful things available via addons - e.g. HP for each side - but I find the built-in UI to be very feature-rich.

    • @allankay12
      @allankay12 4 роки тому +4

      @@taugrim Agreed. When I started I used mods for garage stuff like return crew, return equipment and many other garage features. Also loved the in game features and mini map features that now are in the vanilla client. Now if I could just get used to not seeing a nuclear mushroom cloud explosion when enemies get killed and being able to know how much HP the enemy has left I could run no mods,lol. The former pure visual entertainment the latter some say an advantage.
      I just always make sure I use mods approved by WG. The problem I have found is mods WG advertises on their website have features I believe to be an unfair advantage more so than how much HP is left on a enemy tank. I won't mention 3 or 4 in particular so I just keep my setting the same.
      Do you feel some mods can give a player an advantage?

      Absolutely, some mods which are questionable or considered illegal give a HUGE advantage.
      E.g. the one that shows where enemy tanks are pointing their barrel (laser beam), there's another that shows whenever a tree is knocked down anywhere on the map, etc.
      I'd never use a cheat as I think it's weak and lame, but there are plenty of people who would do anything for an advantage. To me, how you win is as important as whether you win.

      @@taugrim Again I agree. What is the point of playing if I'm not matching my skill vs another players? Cheating is lame and weak. I've heard of illegal mods like laser beam barrel, auto aim crit and/or weak spots, etc. I should have mentioned what do you think about the legal mods. Mods WG advertises on wgmods.net/ with all their modifications to choose from. I mean there are at least 3 off the top of my head I believe gives an unfair advantage yet they are legal. You should bind the fire salvo button to another mouse button(arguable). Everything else is definitely agreeable except for the dynamic indicator you ticked. The dynamic indicator selection only affects the size of the indicator based on the percent damage it does, which can make it much more difficult to pinpoint a specific direction of fire in the heat of fire enough to blind fire in return.

    I really don't understand your use of the WERD keys. What value is there in maintaining the natural typing position when you are playing a game where you keep one hand on the mouse? Using WASD puts your hand in a much better place to use 1234 and the large tab/shift/ctr/alt keys. And if you do want to keep the natural typing position, why not use SF for turning instead of WR so you can just push down instead of needing to move your finger?

    • @taugrim
      @taugrim  4 роки тому +1

      So years ago people used to make the argument to be able to reach modifier keys. That was when MMOs had 20-30 or more abilities with cooldowns. Nowadays not so much.
      If you are using control keys alone, that's fine. But if you for example have to hit two (e.g. Ctrl+R), that's too fingers which is sub-optimal.
      You can read about my keybindings philosophy here:

      @@taugrim Thanks for the response. It looks like your system makes a lot more sense in MMO's where a back key isn't as useful and you want to maximize the number of buttons available. I still think the traditional WASD makes more sense for FPS/WOT where you need four movement keys and only a few buttons, but I can see why you wouldn't want to mess with your muscle memory.

    • @taylorjb1982

      Sorry I know this is full on necro, but noticed that this comes up a lot. There are several factors involved in the visibility of arty tracers. The devs did something back like 2 years ago with the HD update to try and disrupt the functionality of a couple of the more annoying illegal mods that are used by donkeys. The change full on broke tracers for a long time but they have since tweaked their shenanigans it seems because I regularly rage hunt arty via counter battery fire and more tracers show up now than back when the original "adjustments" were made. Now that being said, until the SPG mechanics update makes it out of sandbox and is prepped for live release its likely the best its going to be for tracers in the game code till then. Tau bb is right, its mostly graphics and displays settings. Cant do anything for the ones that dont render visually. What you can do is adjust your monitor, graphics driver settings, and in game graphics settings to make the tracers that actually do appear more visible. This might suck if you play on a tatoe or toaster PC or a MAC but it made tracers stand out on my screen. Monitor - crank sharpness and contrast up, also try not to get to blue or "cool" with your color temp. GFX Driver - sharpness up, again try not to make your screen to blue or cool whatever. In game - gamma down as far as you can without it affecting your ability to see and aim well, lighting quality down one if its maxed, shadows on even if its just the lowest notch it helps, extra effects quality at least at medium on both sliders, LOD all the way up, and peeps say Im crazy but Post proc. on cause you can see stuff man all im saying bout that lol. Also crank your effects volume slider in sound settings. Tracers make sound even if they dont render like a hissing sibilant sound. You hear that while scoping arty nesting spots from top down view shoot the most likely pig wallow in your scope lol effects volume will also help you hear breaking objects when unspotted vehicles are moving inside the sound render of your scope but all that is gonna change in the future as well but use it while you got it.

    Slightly off topic - I reversed the default med and repair kit positions because on the second keystroke the driver is '4' and the tracks are '5'. So with the med kit on '4', a double press will fix the driver, with the repair kit on '5', a double press will fix the tracks. I did this because of all the critical hits, driver and tracks will get you killed the quickest so it made sense for mobility fixes to be paramount.

    In sniper mode I keep grass and extra effects off. Arcade mode has low shadows and trees become transparent and terrain features or flora at medium. I find if there's lots of shadows and clumps of grass it becomes distracting, especially because I am half color blind. In game everything is green and brown which all looks the same to me.
    Another setting I have tweaked is my monitor. It's rated for 60hz's so that's a max 60 fps. Using my AMD gpu software I have "overclocked" my monitor to hit 65hz's. So that tripple buffering and other similar settings that have a max of 60 fps now can do 65 fps.

    • @taugrim
      @taugrim  4 роки тому

      You have years of muscle memory working against a new keybinding setup.
      What makes the most sense:
      - middle finger for forward/backward
      - index finger for right turn or right strafe
      - ring finger for left turn or left strafe
      Now the question is, where to put your fingers. For typing, our middle finger is used to type E and D, not W and S.
      So if you change from WSAD to EDSF, you're able to use your fingers in the natural typing position. And you don't have an issue with using your pinky for left turn if you also use your ring finger for forward/backward.

      Just letting you know, since I changed to all auto fire extinguishers over a period of 4000 battles I have ended up purchasing 48 total automatic fire extinguishers aside from the initial batch. In credits that is just under a million. And I ran auto extinguishers in every single game(except when I ran my light tanks where I always run food on them). Fires are relatively rare and become even rarer with the auto fire extinguisher. In addition, they are handed out in a ridiculous number of events compared to the olden days and as such I have actually begun selling my auto extinguishers for credits as I almost never use them despite them being equipped on every vehicle I own. In my opinion, there is no reason to not use(ie equip) an automatic fire extinguisher as it pays for itself. I guarantee I would have used over 300 normal fire extinguishers in the same period of battles and easily taken double the amount of damage from fires.
      As far as repair kits go, I have always had mine bound to E in the 5 slot as it changes the mapping to the 5th module as well, so you can double tap the E button or wherever else is comfortable depending on your other keybinds.

      > In my opinion, there is no reason to not use(ie equip) an automatic fire extinguisher as it pays for itself

      That's good advice. For the same reason I put my repairs kits on 5, so hitting 5-5 instantly fixes tracks.

    "Maximum view range." So if I've been running optics AND binocs on my scouts, bumping my VR above 445 meters while stationary, have I been wasting an equipment slot? i.e. on my higher-tier scouts, I usually get max VR on the move. I welcome input from any more experienced players here, thanks in advance.

    • @taugrim
      @taugrim  4 роки тому +2

      So for 99% of light tanks from tier 5-10, you want Optics, no Binocs. The exception is the ELC AMX - use Binocs on that.
      Getting over 445m view range is not a total waste - more view range helps you to pierce camouflage. But getting to 445m with Optics is the priority, so you are always-on spotting the white circle.

    • @juanzulu1318
      @juanzulu1318 4 роки тому +1

      Running both is not a bad idea, especially for low to mid tier scouts. Let's call it a "dedicated" scouting setup. U will suffer a bit in the firepower area as u most probably will use the slot which usually is reserved for the rammer.
      However, Scouts tend to have smaller caliber guns and therefore fast reload which in turn diminish a bit the advantage of a rammer during the first few shots. So all in all it's not the best but a valid setup.
      Having view range above 445 is usefull if u intend to scout not inly shooting but also moving targets.
      With 445 view range u will see a typical high tier medium moving at around 350. With view range 550 u might see him at 445 already.

      Good! I played the T-44 to unlock the Obj 430 and 3-marked the T-44 along the way, and I'm ~50 battles into the grind for the 430U.
      The 430 is simultaneously better than I was expecting yet also frustrating. But I've had an unusual number of pathetic teams (I won only 30% of my first 20 battles), so I think that's colored my perception of the tank. And it's hard to say how much my grinding the engine and tracks might have influenced my first 26 battles in that tank.
      That said, I have some *awesome* carries to share in my review of the 430 😄.
      On paper the 430U looks like an up-tiered version of the 430 but with far better hull armor.

    Uh....WASD gives you tactile difference in secondary buttons. Its to take a layer of processing out of the process. You may be used to it by now, but extolling it to the masses - you're just going to blunt their reaction time and cause them to mis-click secondaries like consumables. Not a good idea.

    • @taugrim
      @taugrim  4 роки тому

      I disagree.
      Games have been moving to fewer abilities, not more.
      Years ago, games such as WoW, RIFT, or SWTOR required the player to keybind 20-30 different abilities or more. Most MOBAs, FPS, and even MMORPGs have a dozen abilities or fewer. The same goes for WoT. Very few keybinds needed.

    • @AytchZero
      @AytchZero 4 роки тому

      @@taugrim You're talking about binding things to the 7,8, or 9 key when you get up that high. That's not where I'm headed. I'm talking about the tactile difference between Q and Tab being much easier to tell than the difference between W and Q. The only advantage the WASD to ESDF shift gives is allowing me to type without having to reposition one key over. The disadvantage is slower reaction time in finding whatever used to be my Tab or Shift key. I just think the mis-click potential outweighs the minimal reward, especially given how few people have formal typing training. My two cents.

      I tried it a couple od times and grew such a hatred for that option.. Almost everything that I see and shoot will be pretty much visible enough and 16x and 25x just messes up accuracy since you need more movement of hand when hiting targets that are moving, so for me it happens to be counter-productive.
