With a bit of effort, Windows 10 (32 bit) can run in much less than 1GB. I've had it running on an old Netbook with 512MB and a single core Atom N270. I'm not saying it was fast or particularly pleasant to use... but it is still just about usable. 😉 Of course, running XP on it makes a huge difference if you're playing old games offline.
I think 3D Printing some rails for the joycons that have tabs to put double sided tape onto to hold it to either side of the tablet, that would be a massive upgrade both to the stability of the controllers and the functionality. You cojld even cut out a hole in the print for the charge port, to make it actually look like it was somewhat professionally designed for the tablet.
it would be really cool if someone created a grip for the joycons to turn it into a controller and have the tiny buttons still be usable, like turn those into paddles I'm sure it could be done it's just nobody has really thought about it.
You should've installed Windows 8.1, it worked leagues better and ran HL1 flawlessly, also Win 8.1 was pre-installed initially and is less requiring for RAM
Yeah I updated it to Windows 10 when I was 12 and none of my adapters will let me boot off of a USB so I left it at this so the video wasn't delayed further
btw you can game on Windows with this hardware, but you'll need some optimization, just graphical and background optimization for Windows to lower the ram and CPU usage, considering how slow the GPU is😂
I bought the HP stream 7 many years ago, brand new during a black Friday sale for $79. At that price it was a complete waste of money. That tablet was barely usable. We have come so far with the Steam deck. ( I'm actually watching this on my steam deck in desktop mode connected to my monitor. )
I used to own that windows tablet. it was a piece of junk but I used it as my main PC for about a year. whadya expect for $100 but I'd still like to own one though for nostalgia sake.

@@frokfrdk You can, when you install Debian. Debian has support for running multi-arch setup, where the OS is 64bit (because the CPU 64bit), but the UEFI is 32bit. AND Debian uses way less resources. I run Debian 11 on my Intel Atom x5-z8300 with 2GB ram and it only uses 300mb of RAM ;)
i had this exact tablet, bought new for 99€ just because was x86, for fun. Beside some "metro" apps with windows 8, was pretty much unusable. Even updated later to windows 10, even worse.
It would work reasonably well for it's intended purpose, but this is not it's intended purpose. There were Windows tablets with more RAM and more powerful versions of the Atom CPU, but they were all intended to be low power, energy efficient tablets, not gaming machines. But I can vouch that the original Half Life game will run decently on old, even lower powered 1st generation Netbooks with the early single core Atom N270 or N280 and Intel GMA 950 graphics. If you have 1.5 or 2Gb of RAM and run the OS they were designed for. Old games converted to run on Steam are always slower. Steam is a resource hog.
It's getting better slowly, but Linux is still hit and miss for gaming. You can tweak Windows 10 to run better, especially on the 2GB Windows tablets, but the Atom family of CPUs had two overriding aims... to be power efficient and cheap, at the expense of performance. Plus Windows 10 wasn't designed to run on devices with such low end devices. Not a great combo. If you could get Win 7 on there, or even XP, it would run old (offline) games fine. Steam versions of old games demand more resources than the original versions.
Far less than half the performance, more like five percent. But considering the Atom CPUs were primarily intended to be ultra power efficient, not performance oriented, and that Intel stopped development before the Steamdeck was even released, it's not surprising. There were Windows tablets with faster Atom CPUs and more RAM, but they were never intended to be gaming platforms. They will run original, non Steam versions of old games, such as Half Life, much better.
