  • In 1917 at the age of 19, Gershwin wrote Rialto Ripples with his colleague Will Donaldson. Allegedly, the piece was written by George while riding the 5th Avenue bus. Rialto is a pseudonym for Broadway, and the Ripples refers to rain on his hotel window reflecting the lights of Broadway.
I've been a big fan of Gershwin's music since discovering him in the 70's. So, when I first set up my Midi studio in the 80's, I recorded this piano piece. At the time, I was recording lots of stuff for the Starrett City TV station that was being used as theme music for the shows. Rialto seemed to fit with a show about antiques.
Recorded in 1985 on a Commodore 64 computer using Passport Master Tracks midi sequencer, Yamaha DX21 on top & Sequential Prophet 2000 for bass.
