- This is a 1985 carousel gumball machine I found this at a thrift shop. They sell these online: amzn.to/2L1x87L and make perfect gifts!
I bought it and I want to see if I was any good it looks like everything was intact and you know we'll go ahead take it apart and take a look at what's inside and clean up and put some candy in there and see how much it can fill.
Recently, it broke were the brass tongue that locked out the turning mechanism was malfunctioning because a friend probably tried to force the knob and bent it.
This video takes apart the spring and coin drive unit to fix the bent tongue.

Tip: Don’t let that tiny spring at 2:10 fly across the room. I finally found mine with the aid of a very bright flashlight. 🙂 Thanks for the closeups to show where it goes.
I’m having a hard time figuring out how to put spring back on. Do you know how the spring goes back on? Thanks
Smells like fish made of beef
how to shit myself
Thank you so much. I was filling up office gumball machine with fresh candy and didn't notice washer had fallen off!! Thanks to this video I know where it goes now!!
You're the best! I wanted to take mine apart and clean it ... you've given me the confidence that I can do this!
Glad I could help!
Yup my spring went flying across the room into the carpet somewhere. Now trying to fabricate a new one!

I've got one with the same problem plus missing gaskets. Now I'm headed to the hardware store so I can get it going again. It was my late FIL's and gonna give it to my son for Xmas.
Thank you thank you! This was so helpful. ❤
So helpful
New subscriber here sir i want to know if you can change the coin sizes on this machine
Nope i took it apart a few times.
So what kind of pennies did this machine accept sir? Ty
Ok my gumball machine is from the 20s I think or 40s but it's solid cast iron
Is there a parts list for missing pieces or a diagram listing the parts. I'm missing 2 pieces
Do you know where I can purchase the metal spring that stops the turner after each coin? I've just taken my Gumball machine apart because the mechanism kept going and won't stop turning.
Time in the video referencing: 1:56
What kind of grease do you use?
The wheel and the gear on the back of my coin mechanism do not align so my machine will not dispense.
What should I adjust to fix this?
How do you fix it if the knob just keeps spinning and never clicks in place?
I’m having the same issue
What is that metal piece called in the middle mine broke and I’m trying to find the part name
Is this machine seriously designed to accept any coin from penny to quarter?!
My coin mechanism is screwed in, how do i get it out?
I have this, and I'm trying to fix it. My issue is the opposite, it spins with no resistance. Handle turns freely, inside carousel spins around, over and over. If i put a coin in, the coin just sits there. Can i fix it?
The problem I have with one of these is the coin mechanism on my machine fits tightly into the red base. I have seen a couple other videos that have this problem, but other videos show the mechanism lift out with ease. Out of the box from the factory the mechanism was not sitting right as it was riding about an eighth of an inch high and threw the entire assembly off by that much. I figured out how to tap it down into place and then even remove it without damaging the other parts but I can't find the spot that is hanging up so I can file it down. This is a step that is being ignored in it's manufacture, but what should I expect from something made in China?
Mine is also tight fitting.
My Carousel 1985 R" was to tight to push all the way down too. I got it in as far as it would go with out forcing it, then I loosened just the top two screws and it slid down all the way with a slight push. I tightened up the top screws once it was sat all the way down. Best of luck...
I bought a gum machine, but it was missing the long middle rod. Is there somewhere I can get one? Thanks for any help you can provide
Theu are generally standard threaded rod available at most hardware stores
