Of course breaking the glass would be bad, but why throw the whole thing away? Save the machine for spare parts! The next machine someone has to sell could have who knows what missing and you could point that out to the person and talk the price down for next to nothing. A decent inventory of spares could be built up and prove quite useful as many pieces of a machine could be interchangeable among others in the same size class and may even temp a person to "Frankenstein" some things together into new machines to top off with a new and unusual paint job.
You would die to see the prices for used gumball machines in Australia. $150 on a stand, $50 just the machine. That’s USED prices mind you. EBay people ask $300+ for used machines on a stand. 👍🇦🇺
