Clarence was always a favorite down here in the South. (along with Otis Redding and Percy Sledge and sock hops). I learned two things today. 1) That he was blind and 2) he's still alive at 85.
i live just a couple of miles from Hillsborough AL, and made friends with a gentleman who is 85 years old. he worked with Percy Sledge at the cotton mill till one day he came in and said im gone gentleman!! as his song "When a man loves a woman" played on the radio.
I would highly recommend watching the documentary entitled Muscle Shoals. It's free here on UA-cam. Living in Alabama, I was blown away. I never knew the influence a small recording studio in Muscle Shoals Alabama had on the music industry in the 60's and 70's.
Omg! So excited about these! Clarence was Muscle Shoals sound at its earliest and best! Please react to him with Duane ALLMAN “The road of love”. It’s fire!! 🔥🔥🔥
Love this man's music! So happy you came upon him. One reason I love Sirius radio is because you can still hear some treasures that otherwise wouldn't be heard. I was gonna request Patches awhile ago cause I know you like storytellin' I remember it from the early 70's as a little girl. I still hear it today and touches my heart, so happy you reacted to the too! ✌☮ ❤🎶
Clarence carter's delivery throughout his vocals was awesome. Everything about this song was filled with desire and emotion. The fact that it's also a cheating song without remorse is kind of refreshing in a way since most songs like that are from a totally different perspective. Thanks Jamel for your review.
I remember all these songs. I didn't realize who the singer was. I probably thought it was the Temptations, like Jamel mentioned. Glad to know who sang these great songs, with that wonderful voice.
Classic Jam! What tone! You've gotta check out Sam & Dave, Eddie Floyd, Wilson Pickett, Solomon Burke etc. Here's a long, but incomplete, list of songs from back then that I think you'll like a lot: Eddie Floyd "Knock On Wood", Sam & Dave "Hold On, I'm Comin", Jr. Walker & The All-Stars "Shotgun", Solomon Burke "Got To Get You Off My Mind", Billy Stewart "Summertime", The Foundations "Baby, Now That I Found You", The Chambers Brothers "Uptown to Harlem", The Spinners "It's a Shame", The Bar-Kays "Soul Finger", Bob & Earl "Harlem Shuffle", Dyke & The Blazers "We Got More Soul", Len Barry "1-2-3" and on and on...
There's a song by Buddy Guy called "Feels like Rain" that I always have to listen to after this one. I have no idea why, maybe same vibe, but I'm off listen to it now. I suggest you do so as well. 😀
Your listeners mentioned brother Duane Allman on some Clarence Muscle Scholls work. Did you know Brother Gregg allman has a killer version of this tune on his solo record "Just before the bullets fly"?
He was married to Candi Staton, try her great version of "Stand By Your Man." Also try his "Too Weak to Fight" and "I Smell a Rat". Also some people really LOVE his "Making Love (at the Dark End of The Street)".
Did you know this was recorded in Muscle Shoals AL. ? Where the musicians were almost 100% white southern boys!! FAME Studios! Think about it! 1967 a whole lot of racial craziness was happening and yet once again music brings it all together!! Great show!!!
In 1968 I used to fake sick during a school day and slip into my sisters bedroom and break her 45's out......I wore the grooves off of that song, Slip Away!
Jamel, take a listen to Clarence Carter - "Funky Fever", Wilson 'The Wicked' Pickett - "Ninety Nine and a Half (Won't Do)", Otis Redding - "Cigarettes and Coffee".... you're welcome! Loved Soul, Funk and Rhythm & Blues as a young kid, grew up with it through some of my older brothers and sisters. Albums like 'That's Soul' (various artists, from the late 60s to the mid 70s) played around the house a lot back in the day... Loving all of it stil to this day, the passion, groove and feel is second to none!
A married man favorite song for me in 1969 18 In love with a married man not my fault our son was 6months old when his dad got married and when he came into the club playing this song starring at me and say let,s dance no explanation needed😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Jamel , you gotta watch the movie, MUSCLE SHOALS and see what it was like with blacks and whites working together in the studios in Alabama. No matter what was going on down in Birmingham we were pumping out the best R&B and soul in the world. In the late 70s, Muscle Shoals was christened The Hit Recording Capital of the world! Even the Beatles and Rolling Stones took notice.
You should listen to his Northern Soul hit “Messin’ With My Mind”. You need to listen to other Northern Soul music too!Start with Frank Wilson “Do I Love You(Indeed I Do)” and Dobie Gray “Out On The Floor” and the rest will follow! Get your talcum powder ready for the dance moves 😉
Not enough credit has ever been given to Rick Hall at Fame Studios for finding and producing these great artist. Have to say though Patches is my favorite Clarence Carter song it's a story of Ricks life as a kid. PS instead of getting shot around here we call it springing leaks.
Jamal, you gotta listen to "Killing Floor" by Electric Flag! It's a blues tune from the late 60's, written by Howlin' Wolf way back when. Lots of good cuts on the "Long Time Coming" album...
been watching your journey for most of lockdown. You are lucky to have such a good foundation of music that allows you to feel it better, I believe, and the intelligence to appreciate it.We relive our favourite songs with you.It has been most edifying. If you fancy another Pink Floyd, may I recommend Echoes. and i am sure most people here would agree when i say we all need a laugh every now and then so why not try Supergrass - Pumping on your stereo. finally young sir i recommend a few days off this mania,go build a rabbit hutch or write a book or something. noise in the background 'What's that dear...................there's a man at the door claims he's Elvis?........................oh well, bye for now'.
If you get a chance, check out the movie "The Commitments". It's the story of an Irish band that bring soul music to Dublin. This song is on the soundtrack and they do an excellent cover. Great movie and amazing band. They actually toured and I got to see them live. Other great covers include, but are not limited to "Mustang Sally", "Take Me to The River", "Try A Little Tenderness" and "In the Midnight Hour".
@4:52 Jamel, "Got a Temptations feel to it." That's it! I was thinking this sounded like someone and I couldn't place who but Jamel figured it out for me.

Clarence is an awesome artist! Thanks for giving him a look. Despite the topic, you can’t help but groove to this one. 😊
One of the Muscle Shoals classics. "Muscle Shoals has got the Swampers. And they've been known to pick a song or two."
Yes they do.
I would highly recommend watching the documentary entitled Muscle Shoals. It's free here on UA-cam. Living in Alabama, I was blown away. I never knew the influence a small recording studio in Muscle Shoals Alabama had on the music industry in the 60's and 70's.
I just watched it and it was great!!
I watch every video featuring this great song! Never tired this one. Love Clarence's feeling he puts in.
Serendipity must've brought me here today. Guess I needed to hear Clarence Carters' voice. Good pick, Jamel.
Yep. Never heard him before. Damn!! I was missin out! Thanks J
One of my favorite R&B tracks ever...Clarence is playin' that sweet guitar as well.
You can hear the desperation in Carter's voice one of my favorites.
Love Clarence Carter. They don’t make music like this anymore!
This is one of the best "classic" soul song from the 60s. Can't get tired of this one.
Heard all this great music of the 60's - 70's on "The Big 89" WLS, Chicago.
@@anthonygaby6617 I did too in Kentucky! A powerful station!
Down here in L.A. (Lower Alabama) we could get WLS at night during the winter months and heard so much good music!
@@anthonygaby6617 I listened to WLS on summer nights in 60's up and down the east coast. Charleton to Balt growing up
BTW... WLS was a 50K watt clear channel station after sundown till dawn
Best part of being a suburbs kid...
All time classic! Great choice
I love this song!
😂😂😂 the look on your face. I KNEW you were gonna stop the music when he said “without him knowing you’re gone”.
You should check out Tyrone Davis" If I could turn back the hands of time"

This was my favorite Clarence Carter song. It's a love song. Sorta. : ) The message may be wrong, but Clarence delivers it so darned well.
Check out some Percy Sledge. I loved him. Percy, Clarence, and Otis were huge in the south.
Such great music and lyrics. He delivers them all so powerfully !!!
How could I have forgotten about Clarence Carter?? I am very grateful to the requester and the reactor💖💖💖💖
Jamel, do Clarence’s cover of “Road of Love” with Brother Duane Allman on sizzling lead guitar. Deep deep Southern soul music.
Amazing slide solo on that song .
Please! Clarence says he likes what Duane is playing in that song!
Jamel, have you heard any Sam Cooke? MUST MUST MUST check out his catalog.

Soul courtesy of a Isaac Hayes musical touch from 60s Memphis. That 60s feel grabs you at the beginning note. A Soul Classic

Love this song and Clarence Carter. The sounds of the 50's and 60's is like no other.
This is a “Muscle Shoals” favorite. Watch the movie, and then make your requests........
Agree. Muscle Shoals is one of the best documentaries. The Swampers played and let the artist be the artist.
Agree 100%
This was a favorite from my high school days. Love his voice with so much intensity.
This man was born blind. What a talent
I remember all these songs. I didn't realize who the singer was. I probably thought it was the Temptations, like Jamel mentioned. Glad to know who sang these great songs, with that wonderful voice.

The Clarence Carter song to react to is "Making Love." It's even wilder than "Strokin'." I can never listen to it without totally cracking up!
He was married to Candi Staton, try her great version of "Stand By Your Man." Also try his "Too Weak to Fight" and "I Smell a Rat". Also some people really LOVE his "Making Love (at the Dark End of The Street)".
