IMO the entire CART era was the absolute pinnacle of open-wheel single-seat racing in North America! So many different chassis and engine manufacturers involved- this was NOT a spec series. Much more like Formula One. 🙂
Well that was also its downfall, the dark side of being more like F1. The cars got too expensive and advanced and the speeds got too high on some tracks too.
@@theflagstand I would argue the downfall was Tony George and his out-sized ego. Cars got too expensive for who? The level of sponsorship during that era was off the charts. Without looking I would bet the TV ratings were much better also. As a road racing fan it was just the best ever and as a mechanic, spec racing just doesn't get it for me. I've been hard core F1 ever since the CART-IRL split for that reason.
@@markcaton9056 Well there was definitely something concrete that led to IRL stealing CART's top teams, be it the expensiveness of CART or the inexpensiveness of IRL. And because the cars were so advanced they could reach insane speeds whoch led to what happened in Texas in 2001. That weekend was a significant part in the CART's downfall. There's always a limit in motor racing when it comes to how advanced, fast and expensive things can be. CART worked well for a while but the way it was developing it was always gonna go down sometime, especially with George offering a cheaper option with Indy 500.
I think it was brilliant as well but I also enjoy modern indycar quite a bit. There are definitely some CART tracks that need to come back into the Indycar schedule, though. Namely Cleveland Burke Lakefront Airport, and Michigan Speedway.
I have always been a huge Michael Andretti fan and always will be. While this was a fortunate victory it was one of his last. Very very cool. Dude was a monster on all ovals.
One of the 978 times of the season where Juan Montoya dominated the race just to lose it by reliability issues. He should have cruised to win back to back championships in 1999-2000 but finished the season outside top 10 in the standings
It shows how quick Tracy was. Quite overweight, so he's down tenths of a second to skinnier drivers before he turns a lap. So when he's faster than them, imagine how quick he really is with that deficit.

Back in 1998 CART wanted to buy Formula One, but Ecclestone didn't take them seriously.
God, those cars were spectacular!
CART Champcar..... Simply the best.
Indeed, you have said it all!!!.
@@BrainyCesarin1 yeah man

How I miss these great races!!!.
Man if Marco had a tenth of his Dad's talent or drive he'd be amazing!
Another great upload. Thanks Indycar.
I wish they would just fix this place and go back
They'd like to, but the foundation's too broken to repair.
Please come back to JAPAN
I want to watch oval race again
They wanted to, but the place is in too much disrepair, at least from what I've heard.
Ah yes the race Jimmy Bly crashed himself out of
0:18 War by Joe Satriani. Awesome!!!

When you bring back australia and japan (Also request race at Baku as well!)
I love how they always seem to find a way to mention how Paul Tracy is overweight

At 1:07 I Love That Buddha Statue! Where In Japan Is It At? What The Name Of It And Temple! And When Was It Built? (Sometime In BC I Think!)
i still can't get over the fact the cameras kept zooming into Shinji's Avex Car like it's proof both Shinji and the Avex Group are both Japanese
Oh my god how I miss those V8 turbos.
Bring back The CART race schedule 😢
That was Lola's first win since 1996
Can you post the 1989 Road America race next?
champcarwassocoooool!
Does IndyCar still run @ this track seems like similar to Nasville or Pocono type of confurgation.
Twin Ring Motegi? Nope
2011 was the last time IndyCar raced at Twin Ring Motegi. Danica Patrick won that race.
CART Champ Car series raced there from 1998-2002. IRL raced there from 2003-2011.
@@MarkMeadows90 : Nice facts just like NASCAR when Rockingham last race was 2004 & Nashville last truck race was few years ago.
Malik ElcoSS454 I miss when nascar ran exhibition race at the oval track at Motegi and ran the East Circuit course at Suzuka.
wow.
Não Perde Mais Michael Andretti Vence o Gp do Japan
They sound like the V8 Formula One cars...
This Is a v8 twinturbo of 970hp on
