Yes, it would. Use a microfiber and cradled the gas nozzle with it when you are filling up as to not drip on the tank.

You can easily fix that issue with rubber tank pads

Vinyl wrap there around the gas cap and that should fix it.

The product is called plastidip, but it's all spray on either through aerosol or your own sprayer.
