Most people were not helping themselves when Jesus died on the cross for those who would repent and trust in Him to be saved. We didn’t deserve His sacrifice nor did we help ourselves to earn it. It is a gift by no work of our own, but by that of the Holy Spirit within us and what Jesus did on the cross.

A perfect example of why we should all read and understand the Bible ourselves so that we are not educated fools and misled. Great video, WWUTT!

My favorite non Bible verse is, “When in Rome do as the Romans do”.

LOL - Ironic that the Romans persecuted the Christians.

There is still an element of truth to that saying. For example, if you ask God to help you to get healthy, then continue to lie on the couch and eat ice cream, nothing is going to change. You have to do everything you can, and then God might give you the results you want. Of course, this doesn't apply to stuff like being saved from sin or getting into Heaven, which only God can do, but you also can't give up and leave it all to God.

Abstaining from unhealthy food is not you helping yourself, it is you humbling yourself to God's word, and obeying his word. Remember, Whatever you do, do to the glory of God.

No. If you can help yourself you don't need God's help.

This saying "the gods helps those who help them self" is from the story of Hercules helping the man with a stuck cart! The man was praying to the gods to free his cart! Hercules show the man the power of levers.

Brother Gabe, this is unrelated, but could you please do a video about the various forms of Israelism? Israelism is basically a pseudohistorical theory in which members of one Gentile group claim that their ethnic group is descended from the "Lost" Tribes of Israel. The variants I’ve heard of thus far are British, French, Nordic, Japanese, and Black Hebrew Israelism.

I dont think there is a use for the phrase a bit useless in my opinion. Continue to read scripture and stay in prayer. Christ is all we need.

Trusting in Christ Jesus not men and their legion of books. Seek our your own salvation, not the salvation of men for they can't save you

Be careful with those interpretations. That woman was correct. Just because it's not in the Bible doesn't always mean it's wrong. With the verses you quoted, I can say, "Well, I better not take any medication, vitamins or even an aspirin," as that would mean I'm not relying on the Lord.

Yes, I totally agree. In the context of justification, God helps those that help themselves is Medieval theology and is the false belief that God imputes righteousness to us based on our sincere best efforts to obey Him. In our salvation, God helps those who are shown from His Law that they are sinful and cannot obtain eternal life unless they are granted faith and repentance and rely on Christ's substitutionary life and sacrificial death to save them.

    This video is wrong.
That's not what the phrase means. Stating that the Lord helps those who help themselves is not implying self-preservation by self-efforts and strength. Rather, it means that you are putting forth the effort on your part, so God can do his part. God does not provide for those who don't put forth the effort. Simply, the phrase literally means that if you want God to provide for you, you have to provide for yourself. In other words, if you put 100% effort, God will bring the results.

Exactly! I hear a lot of people slam this popular saying all the time. It's true that God helps us when we come to Him for redemption from sin. We must do that. However, I must get up and go to work, pay bills, take care of my health, etc. I would like for that gold mine to fall out of the clouds and onto my lawn (lol), but it hasn't happened yet.

Disputable. A lot of idiots in the world are literally making "money for nothing". Just look around yourself. You yourself made videos about this, as I can see on your channel.

What a ridiculous video. The Proverbs are FULL of the wisdom of God telling us to work -- to put forth effort for the betterment of ourselves. It is NOT a contradiction of Scripture to "help yourself." Trusting God by obeying His commands IS helping yourself, and generally speaking, God's blessings follow. Seems some Calvinists are so obsessed with finding something wrong with EVERYTHING that it's all they can see. They think everyone is going to hell but them, and they love to say it every way they can, every chance they get.

Perhaps I misunderstand this idiom, but I always thought it meant something like Paul is describing in Phil 2:12: "Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling." - God will help you with your works, but it doesn't mean you can be lazy. I'm not a native English speaker, does it have different connotations?
