I need to have highly mobile and easy to setup workflow at these locations. And it’s always a pain to connect to a schools WiFi network just to name one. This is what I was thinking. Let know know your thoughts 💭 - iPad Pro with Cellular - HyperDrive with HDMI - Apple TV With An HDMI Cable I would plug the Apple TV into any screen at these locations. Then pair it to my cellular iPad Pro. Then use screen share to project my iPad presentation.

As long as the display you use has vertical display setting, then yes. This method is simply display your device content on the bigger screen with its native orientation, either horizontal or vertical. Hope this helps.
Ok so I'm confused as to why I must "forget" wifi on my device iPhone, iPad and Apple TV. They both have mirroring. I can see it work as soon as I check Mirror to ✔️Apple TV. I was able to stream a tv series from an anonymous site on the internet for about an hour. Later it started pausing continuously. Will your method be a go around for streaming any content?
Unfortunately, if you experience this issue on some apps, which means the app won’t let you do peer-to-peer connection, active internet connection is needed on both devices.
So my Apple TV doesn't stay on the general screen its says connection error and brings me back to the home screen. I am not able to access any apps and whenever I try to it says the same thing and brings me back to the home screen again. Is there a solution to this?
On my Apple TV for the ‘room’ setting it says it needs and iCloud account for that to be set that’s the first thing. And next problem is my iPhone ‘mirror’ button does not detect my Apple TV. It’s just shows it’s continuously searching . This is Not working at all.
Indeed ... public streaming required internet and wifi ... Bluetooth only works for photo and video captured in your own device - useful if worried about internet hacking and surveillance but then Bluetooth ought to be guarded against hackers too.

+Lennon Tv hi, a brief search later, A lot of people having the same issue as you do. But no one seems have an solid answer. Do other apps work via peer to peer? My opinion: if you have all system up to date, then restart your apple tv(just unplug the power) and do hard reset on your phone(sleep and home buttons at the same time), then try again. If still no luck, I believe the problem is the traffic communications between 2 devices.
Dear TaoM, Have been struggling with following problem for a long time: Have a Nikon DSLR with bull-in wifi and the camera sends photos to an iPad via wifi and this works fine. In the next step I want the photos to be sent via airplay from the iPad to an AppleTV and then presented on a large TV. This does not work as the airplay in the iPad never starts up. If I change the wifi-settings in the iPad from camera-wifi to my normal home-wifi the airplay works fine but then of course the camera is not connected to the iPad. The strange thing is that this works beautifully if I replace the iPad with an iPhone 5s. Can the tip in this your video help me here??
Peer to Peer airplay will not work if your iPad or iPhone is connect to your camera wifi. You have to first transfer images to your iPad or iPhone then disconnect all wifi connect ivies on Apple TV and iPad / iPhone for peer-to-peer airplay. The important thing to take away is that in order to make peer-to-peer airplay work, apple tv and your apple mobile devices are disconnected to any wifi network but wifi setting are switched on at the same time. Hope this helps.
Dear Tao, Thanks to your video matter now solved. 1)Disconnected wifi in the AppleTV 2)Disconnected my home wifi-net in the ipad 3)Enabled bluetooth in the ipad 4)Selected the cameras wifi in the ipad - It now works like a dream and I now after months of struggling have real wireless tethering!! Hi, you are right. Unfortunately, a lot apps nowadays only let you stream through if you have active internet connection on both devices. Apps like UA-cam, Netflix are known not working with peer-to-peer connection. This is really unfortunate.
Good to know. Would be nice if you could stream internet content (For example TV video from Dish Network satellite programs) to the ATV via BT. In other words keep the iPhone or iPad connected to the internet and have a dedicated Bluetooth stream the the Apple TV.
Copied - What I usually do to solve this problem is to turn on my phone hotspot, and get my apple TV to connect to that hotspot as its "wifi signal", then mirror as usual with all the procedures was described in the peer to peer mirroring and BEHOLD - it works. In a foreign country, motel or whatever without wifi, you can view streaming on your TV from your iphone with just your APPLE TV connected to it. But it begs the question - when you have limited hotspot, how much data does it draw from your hotspot data if any?

Airplay-You only do this if you want to share something from inside your phone (photos, etc.) for your household to watch.. like what he did. But don’t dare use it for Netflix , iTunes Movie or other HD movie streaming otherwise all load will be on your phone and you’ll gonna pay a lot from your phone service provider. Also, it will defeat the overall purpose of Apple TV hardware capabilities.

Hi, unfortunately I did not have any success with Netflix by using peer to peer connection. even UA-cam app did not play. I noticed that a lot streaming app on iphones have somehow unable to stream to apple tv via peer to peer connection anymore. :(
Just turn airplay to everyone instead of doing allat, if people try to join set a password while still having airplay for everyone not just in the network

Its very difficult to give you a number on the distance. But as long as your ipad can find your ATV , you are good. You might have to just give it a try.

Hi, I’d say 7-10 metres is fine(though, i would suggest your students to switch Bluetooth off on their phone , just to reduce interference). A second hand 4th gen is preferred. Hope this helps.
I tried something similar only with the PowerPoint on my iPhone 8+ for a presentation at a retreat center. Everything worked great at home switching off my home WiFi. Unfortunately the retreat centers video projection equipment wasn’t compatible with HDMI from the Apple TV. Best laid plans can still be aborted. Just one more thing to verify by actually trying it out. Apparently not every HDMI is compatible with the Apple TV.
TaoM Studio I had to put phone closer to the box I think Bluetooth is weak but when I leave my phone close to the box it streams fine thank you and yes I did restart that might have helped aswel thank you
What content are you trying to mirror? Make sure setting on Apple TV is set for Everyone to connect, and not connected to any wifi network. Same apply to your phone?
Just to give you guys a heads up. A lot of viewers are having issues streaming content from UA-cam, Netflix etc apps via peer to peer method. Not sure where the issues are. In my opinion, the issue is from the streaming apps. If you are experiencing issues with other apps, please leave a comment so other viewers are aware of them. Thanks.
TaoM Studio does both devices have to running Updated software iOS 11, haven't updated my iPhone yet because of intentional lags to slow devices down plus I hate the new look of iOS 11, too cheesy.
There is a much easier way. Connect Apple TV to your iPhone’s hotspot and that’s it. You can view content on Apple TV without any outside WiFi network.
That's true. You can mirror anything from your iphone to your apple tv without WIFI AND as long as the pictures or VIDEOS are residing locally on your iphone. What I need is to STREAM youtube or DirecTV programs and mirror it to my AppleTV from my iphone. When I do simply what you did, I get a blank screen on both my TV and my phone. BUT - if I turn on my hotspot and get my Apple TV to connect to it, I get all the mirroring + all the streaming. The question is: "HOW MUCH hotspot data does APPLE TV use in receving moving picture signals from my iphone while I am streaming? (I am aware that my iphone is using data from my service provider when I watch streaming shows and I am not worried about that because I have UNLIMITED data. But I have a LIMITED HOTSPOT data and I am trying to figure out how much data my apple TV is using, if at all) Do you KNOW?
This defeats the purpose of using only Bluetooth. I could have just continued to use wifi to stream/cast/airplay to my AppleTv. Your still using wifi, on your phone 📱. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
WiFi was not disabled when he disconnected from his home network. That being said, he really was not broadcasting via his home network, although WiFi was “enabled” on his phone as his phone was not connected to any network, other than the p2p connection to his Apple TV that is. Maybe the title could have been more specific to avoid confusion? Appreciate the video though. Never thought this was even possible.

Only works on 3rd generation rev A model A1469 or later. If you don’t know your model number, just look under menu--> info --> model

If your movies have been downloaded onto your phone, then it won’t use cellular data while streaming.

This method only seems to work with local content storage on your phone. It doesn’t work for online content 😿

Hi, I’d say 7-10 metres is fine(though, i would suggest your students to switch Bluetooth off on their phone , just to reduce interference). A second hand 4th gen is preferred. Hope this helps.

I tried something similar only with the PowerPoint on my iPhone 8+ for a presentation at a retreat center. Everything worked great at home switching off my home WiFi. Unfortunately the retreat centers video projection equipment wasn’t compatible with HDMI from the Apple TV. Best laid plans can still be aborted. Just one more thing to verify by actually trying it out. Apparently not every HDMI is compatible with the Apple TV.

TaoM Studio I had to put phone closer to the box I think Bluetooth is weak but when I leave my phone close to the box it streams fine thank you and yes I did restart that might have helped aswel thank you

What content are you trying to mirror? Make sure setting on Apple TV is set for Everyone to connect, and not connected to any wifi network. Same apply to your phone?

Just to give you guys a heads up. A lot of viewers are having issues streaming content from UA-cam, Netflix etc apps via peer to peer method. Not sure where the issues are. In my opinion, the issue is from the streaming apps. If you are experiencing issues with other apps, please leave a comment so other viewers are aware of them. Thanks.
TaoM Studio does both devices have to running Updated software iOS 11, haven't updated my iPhone yet because of intentional lags to slow devices down plus I hate the new look of iOS 11, too cheesy.

There is a much easier way. Connect Apple TV to your iPhone’s hotspot and that’s it. You can view content on Apple TV without any outside WiFi network.

That's true. You can mirror anything from your iphone to your apple tv without WIFI AND as long as the pictures or VIDEOS are residing locally on your iphone. What I need is to STREAM youtube or DirecTV programs and mirror it to my AppleTV from my iphone. When I do simply what you did, I get a blank screen on both my TV and my phone. BUT - if I turn on my hotspot and get my Apple TV to connect to it, I get all the mirroring + all the streaming. The question is: "HOW MUCH hotspot data does APPLE TV use in receving moving picture signals from my iphone while I am streaming? (I am aware that my iphone is using data from my service provider when I watch streaming shows and I am not worried about that because I have UNLIMITED data. But I have a LIMITED HOTSPOT data and I am trying to figure out how much data my apple TV is using, if at all) Do you KNOW?

Hi, WiFi is for transmitting data between iphone and apple tv, bluetooth is for 2 devices find each other.

This defeats the purpose of using only Bluetooth. I could have just continued to use wifi to stream/cast/airplay to my AppleTv. Your still using wifi, on your phone 📱. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
WiFi was not disabled when he disconnected from his home network. That being said, he really was not broadcasting via his home network, although WiFi was “enabled” on his phone as his phone was not connected to any network, other than the p2p connection to his Apple TV that is. Maybe the title could have been more specific to avoid confusion? Appreciate the video though. Never thought this was even possible.
