  • I also went over how to clean your filter/grinder again to improve on lighting and audio. Check out the new video at:
    • KitchenAid Dishwasher ...
    A quick Do-It-Yourself (DIY) home repair project to fix your KitchenAid Dishwasher. If your dishwasher does not clean the dishes like it used to and/or there seems to be a bad odor coming out of the dishwasher even after a wash, then it's time to clean it out. This project took me about 15-20 minutes to do. It saved me from having to call in the repair guy or buy a new dishwasher. I also made another video on how to repair your dishwasher when there is no power or lights turning on.
    Hope this helps you out.

    You are the only one with any instructions for the KUDS03FTSS! This model is ever so much more complicated than the standard “just reach in and pull the filter out” models. I’ve spent 20 minutes on line searching for a glimpse of this one with the spinning water assembly hiding the filter underneath it. Thank you for taking the time to demonstrate this process. It’s very much appreciated!

    It will take YOU 15 minutes. It will take me: a day to locate all the things I need, another day to take it all apart, and then a week while I wait for the repairman to come and put it all back together because I won't remember what goes where. But thank you for the info!

    Hi DDIY! I watched your two videos 3 times on how to clean a KitchenAid dishwasher, until I felt confident to tackle this job myself. Thank you so very much for your easy-to-follow tutorial! I appreciate your helpful hints and clear directions. My KitchenAid dishwasher had been leaving soap on the dishes- especially plastic storage containers - making my lunch taste like the bottom of the dishwasher. In the filter I found 15 lemon seeds, two plastic fork tines, and a hunk of glass , and anticipate a squeaky clean next load of dishes. Thanks again!!

    Thanks for the video. It helped for real. It's pathetic how bad this damn dishwasher is, after spending way more money on it than I wanted to or even really could afford, simply because I wanted a premium American made product that I could have, trouble free, for years. This dishwasher is a joke, but not nearly as bad of a joke as Kitchen Aids customer service.

    Danny, I've devised a way to add significant light to the interior of the dishwasher to make videos and the actual work much less stressful. Buy, or look through the house, for one of those LED circular light units that requires one or several small batteries. Putting a photo wall adhesive or duct tape on the dry back of the light unit stick the unit to the very dry top of the inside of the dishwasher. Le voila! ....much needed lighting. Thanks for the video!

I use a commercial dishwasher cleaning agent once a month and thought my dishwasher was clean, until I saw your video and went inside "the works". One word, disgusting. Build up of sludge and stuff various that I didn't want to look at too closely. Hey, Danny! You're the best and you've saved me a lot of time and effort with this video as I have this exact model. I'd started noticing crud on dishes after washing and the washer recently started making a buzzing/grinding noise. Good video. The only thing I would add is those little star drive bits are called Torx wrenches(or bits). And the two that you need specifically for this project are T 20 (the big one for the shroud) and a T 15 (the little one for the blender cover). I may also suggest some latex or nitrile gloves if you don't feel like picking through the goo down there with your bare hands.

      So what model of kitchenaid is it? Does it look like the one on my video? I also have another video that is much better in lighting....just look through my channel and you’ll find the other one called “kitchenaid dishwasher repair-no Power, no lights”. It goes through the cleaning of the grinder as well.

    I had to clean out mine today. I did watch more than one video before attempting. Remember where the little clear ring goes. and I started the dishwasher and let a little water and waited for the pump to start circulation and then opened the door. Got out the shop vac and cleaned all the bad food out Much easier than picking it out with your fingers. I also removed the shredder blade as it was needing to be cleaned also.

    It might be helpful if next time, because we all know there will be a next time, you show your process for taking out the grinder assembly and how you get it back in after that area and screen are cleaned off. Over all a pretty good video, however a light of some sort inside the machine might help show the internal process a bit better. Good job and thanks!

     DDIY GUY Danny Jose: You did just fine. This is my third time tearing into my dishwasher. This time it was pottery chips from my wife's dinner plates jacking up the grinder. I watched your video for a refresher. Thank you.
    Here's a couple of tricks I learned over the years:
    - use a strong strap-on LED headlamp.
    - small wet/dry vac to suck up all the grunge, plastic, and glass etc once you get access to the pump/grinder.
    - soak the plastic parts in strong acetic acid (industrial strength vinegar) ~15% or better Or very very dilute hydrochloric (muratic) acid. This removes all of the lime scale and detergent scum. This step isn't for everyone, so all you couch potato bed wetters can spare me the "Danger! Imminent bodily harm" crap. Just wear gloves and eye protection and use very a diluted mixture ~1/50 - acid/water. I even run the washer empty with acetic acid in it to clean the whole inside of the machine. Don't use hydrochloric for this as it can tarnish the stainless enclosure.

      @@DDIY-Guy Oh by the way, do you know any tricks to get the screen and blade grinder assembly back in easily? You know, it has the spring loaded cog thingy? There's gotta be an easy way to pull the cog back and keep it back until the screen and blade are properly placed. Please lemme know if you've figured this out yet...

    • @DDIY-Guy
      @DDIY-Guy  5 років тому

      Not sure....I’ll let you know if I figure it out. Haven’t disassembled the grinder before.

    • @sempertard
      @sempertard 5 років тому +1

      @@DDIY-Guy Did a little more digging. Someone recommended using an 11/16 open end wrench. So you pull the chopper blade forward and insert the wrench between the chopper blades and the stainless screen. That size wrench is thick enough to allow you to insert the grinder assembly back into it's original spot. Once it is properly placed, you just pull the wrench out and the spring loaded cog snaps into place. FYI- I had to replace the grinder assembly once. I can't recall why, other than it was obvious I needed to do so. Thanks again.

    Danny, many thanks for the confidence to do this. I'd add too that the plastic bar on the bottom of the door is holding just as much goo as the rest of the rig. Putting that back together takes patience as most of the door is taken apart to get to the hex head screws that hold that on from within the door. Seems like the whole thing could be designed better?!

    After all that work, plus extra to remove the ProScrub unit (which nobody's video that I could find shows how todo), all I found was 2 of the little rubber dishwasher protective rack tips. On top of that, I managed to pull both metal clips clear out of the dishwasher wall. I can only hope that Krazy Glue will hold them in place once it dries. Bummer!

    Thanks for the video. The source of the random grit I was getting on my dishes has been found. YIKES there was gritty goop in places not shown in your video in addition to what was shown. Check the top and back of that grey arm that snaps to the top and back lots there too. I unsnapped the spout thing attached to it as well and more grit was hiding behind it. This stuff is stubborn to get off even with a scotchbrite scrubbing pad so set aside some time because you'll be there for awhile. I rinsed my dishwasher with hot water from sink sprayer and put it to drain mode a couple times.

    Thanks for the free help! I followed each step to the letter. I found no guck, but did find parts of a broken clip and 3 screws that were never installed! They are very short and painted white, like they never belonged to this appliance. The only part that I couldn't get was the last, threading the spray arm back on. I got it on, but there is such a short threat. I couldn't tighten it because it would pop out of the tread and I'd have to start over. The test run rinse cycle seems to have gone well. Next step, I'll run a load of dirty dishes!
