  • Have you ever wondered what happens to your lovely locks when they arrive at The Little Princess Trust office? Watch this short film to find out!
The Little Princess Trust is a charity based in Hereford, supplying real hair wigs free of charge to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment and other medical conditions.
Started in 2006 in memory of 5-year-old Hannah Tarplee who sadly lost her own battle with cancer the previous year, the charity helps those with cancer - up to the age of 24 - with as many wigs as necessary for the duration of their treatment and hair loss. For those aged up to 24 with a non-life-threatening condition which causes hair loss, the charity provides a single wig to help with the associated trauma.
Since its inception, the Trust has given away 7,297 wigs (*Jan 2019); a number which increases every day. It has also awarded research grants of over £2,200,000. The research projects focus on finding causes of and cures for children’s cancer and also look into developing less toxic treatments for paediatric cancers.
Each real hair wig costs the charity around £500. However, over and above the purchased wigs, the charity also supplies wigs made from donated hair. The Trust receives thousands of donations of good condition hair from all over the world. Around 10 hair donations are required to make a single wig. Although the charity can accept a minimum hair donation of 7”/17cm in length, there is a particular need currently for hair that is over 12”/30cm which will naturally make much longer wigs.

Where are your wig making factories? I hope you aren’t using exploitative labour practices. Not all factories in developing countries are exploitative, of course.
It would be good if there was something on the FAQs on your website or a video acknowledging that stage of the process though. If there was information on fair pay, hours, leave, working conditions, etc. for the ones who weave the wigs, that would be reassuring.
I’m sure the children receiving these wigs wouldn’t want workers in another countries to suffer to make them.
