Woolpower Garnments come one of two ways: Either they're original Ullfrotte (terry loop knit) stitching, or the newer LITE (flat weave) stitch. Customers ask "Why would I choose one over the other?"
The Ullfrotte loop knitting is woven in such a manner that when worn it's 80% air which is what traps your body heat and keeps it next to your skin to keep you warm. Now while heat won't transpirate through air it will transpire out through textiles.
So the other advantage of the terry loop knitting is that there's fewer contact points for heat to transpire through but enough to get the moisture off of your skin and have that transported to the outside of the garment, which is key to keeping warm.
So if you need to do very cold weather activities or things where you NEED your garments to keep you warm the Ullfrotte line is the way to go.
If however you're doing very aerobic activity, say cross country skiing, jogging, running where you want some thermal protection but would overheat in Ullfrotte lines, that’s where the LITE weave comes in.
