He was.. I was blessed to see him in Tacoma in late 2011! However, yours, Sir, was the first actual tape I bought for my Walkman! (Had to sneak it too.. before I could even drive my lil hooptie to Dick's! Listened to it over and over! Life was never the same, lol!) Thank you for being so amazing!! ❤ Thanks to both of you for this interview!!
Y’all Sir Mix A Lot is a Law Nerd 🤯 the Law Nerd community is the dopest community ever. This is #1 favorite EDB pod yet! Thank you Emily for all you do for us! Hope you and the family are having an amazing spring break! 💜
Emily that was awesome! OMG and Sir Mix A Lot watched the Depp vs Heard trail with all of us law nerds! I died and went to heaven when he said that! I’m so proud of you and our law nerd community ❤
Dr.B's comments were a lovely addition. Especially the one where he agreed with Sir M-A-L that @EDB is addictive and explained how he was addicted a long time ago! Id like to say; Thank You Dr.B for sharing your Amazing Wife with us LawNerds 💕
Knowing Bailey Sarian was watching Depp v Heard with us was epic but knowing that Sir Mix A Lot was watching too??? Mind Blown I absolutely LOVED this interview!!!
Ok truth time here … I didn’t think I would be interested but I turned it on to support EDB … WOW this was fascinating ! Great job Emily , your content just gets better and better ! Loved Dr B in the chat !
Absolutely loved every minute of this as a law AND music nerd. Please, Sir Mix-A-Lot, get on the socials and educate the young musicians about their rights and worth. Literally just had to scold people agreeing on a post by MUCHMUSIC implying that buying digital music was a waste of time because now streaming is free as they told musicians downing that view to "go get another job" and "Spotify pays you from ads, why would I buy an album LOL?" The fans AND artists have been trained to devalue music and then cry about concert ticket and merch prices.... My youth, how else do artists survive if you don't buy the music anymore?
Emily. I couldn't stop smiling when Sir Mix a Lot told you he watched your trial coverage. His comments were spot on, he spoke for all us Law Nerds. I was bursting with pride for you!!💜💜💜
It's so cool to know that we (in spirit) watched the depp trial with sir mix-a-lot and he is also a lawnerd! 😮 But tbh Emily's coverage of that trial is very entertaining and engaging.
This was a great interview. He’s SO smart. I don’t think I ever gave him enough credit. He is very knowledgeable about the business. Definitely more to him than I expected!!
As a Seattleite I am so excited to see this interview. 💙💚 He was a big part of my late teens and early 20’s. I listened to him long before Baby Got Back. My Hoopdie and My Posse’s on Broadway are two classics. Edit: oh my god the Showbox. That brings back memories. This whole interview was incredible. Sir Mix-A-Lot has such a wealth of knowledge to share with new artists. I was fascinated by this entire episode.
I love Sir Mix-a-Lot. He made me feel better about myself being a curvy woman. I grew up in a very white area with a lot of skinny women. I am almost 37 now, and this song has been my personal theme song for 22 years now.
This has got to be my favorite episode of the podcast!!! Music and law all in one episode…the Best Ever!!! And Sir Mix-A-Lot is a Law Nerd too 😳 Amazing!!! 💜💜💜
Taylor Swift was asked once what advice she would give to artists just starting out and her reply was "get a really good attorney". I think that, along with her own business sense and sense of justice is what has really helped her get to where she is - just as Sir Mix-a-Lot said having a good attorney helped him in his negotiations when his initial contracts ended. Also, I cannot get over the fact that I spent 6 weeks watching the same thing as Sir Mix-a-Lot at the same time. My 90s self is in heaven.
Love this interview and love Sir Mix A Lot. I grew up listening to '80 and '90s rap and am a true fan. Music is a way to see the cultural prism of life. Without it we cannot improve nor invest in our future. Just imagine life without hearing The Beatles, Otis, or Marvin, Etta, Aretha, James Brown, David Bowie, or Cher.
OMG!!! The memories I have of the Swass and Mack Daddy albums. Mack Daddy was the first album you had to be 18 to buy. I remember, being 17, and having to pay my uncle to go into Tower Records and buy my friends and I the album. My 1st SirMixAlot song on repeat was 🎵 Buttermilk biscuits here we go... 🎵.
I didn’t expect to really be interested in this topic, but pleasantly surprised! Sir Mix-a-Lot coming in with humility and guidance for others! I love it!!! Compassion and dollar bills can go together!
This podcast was amazing! Loved hearing from Sr. Mix. Alot (Probably spelled that wrong) about prince, and how you garner fame by taking care of your people in regards to Taylor swift. I don't follow her, don't particularly like her music, but absolutely adore her efforts in taming her label and helping out artists. She has my respect just like Pearl Jam when they boycotted ticket master! Love these artists for their nerve and standing up to corporations and labels. Artists can change the world with their art because they have the power of the people behind them. ..and Sr. Mix is right about how addicting you are, Emily. LOVE WHAT YOU DO! KEEP IT UP.❤❤❤
Sir Mix-A-Lot and Emily were so soothing to listen to. I have to admit that I was a little skeptical about what he'd bring to the table as far as law goes, but that chat was so natural and engaging. Love both of them and so happy to find out he's a Law Nerd!
Omggg EDB this is an incredible interview 🙌 and it really shows how good you are that Sir Mixalot himself was showing you live for your trial coverage 😭 bloody brilliant 💜
More interesting than I expected, Prince lived up to his name, Sir Mixalot was/is a Law Nerd - glad I overcame my urge to judge a musician by some of his fans
aw, emily, i am floating while listening to this conversation! i am so happy minds like yours & SirMixALot are thinking about the AI music question. i've known so many great musicians that have already been screwed by the music industry, i'd hate to see it happen to a new generation. 🙏 Thank you for this fantastic information! -- 💜 also, please note, TikTok is based in a country that has ZERO data privacy & protections for individuals, music, art, etc... @emilydbaker Loved this interview. I got to hang out with Sir Mix-A-Lot for several hours at my casino when we installed his slot machines back in 2018. His fiancé is a sweetheart. Seriously the most undemanding artist, his friends are included as well. He did photo shoots and signed autographs, played his slot machine with our guests. It was a blast he hung out at the casino for several hours. All around great guy.
I’m only 19 minutes in and this is great content. I’m impressed with Sir Mix-a-Lot’s business acumen and his humility. He seems like a great guy. Thanks Emily.
Thank you for this interview. It was fascinating! Much respect to Sir Mix A Lot and his knowledge of the music industry payment trends. I learned so much! I will definitely show him the love on his UA-cam channel. ❤
I really enjoyed this discussion and learned so much in this episode! Thank you Sir Mix-a-Lot for speaking so candidly and so knowledgeable about musicians streaming rights etc. It's so cool that you are also a fellow Law Nerd. 😊 Great job Emily, this was a great episode! Epic! 👏😊 Well done!
This was a great podcast. This was extremely interesting and I loved hearing what Sir Mix-a-Lot had to say. He had a lot of it and positive messages. Super fascinating!
Omg this is now my favourite podcast episode by FAR!!! So insightful. He's such a smart guy and a great business man. Really interesting to look beyond the song and learn who he is as an artist. Thank you EDB!! 💜
🌹🌿 Shout out to SIR-MIX-ALOT for this great and informative interview‼️ You are a wonderful and fun person, a joy to be in the company of. I remember RALPH TRESVANT saying he didn't like to fly, as well. This is my first time hearing of LAWNERD and it's her voice for me and I look forward to following her especially now with this DIDDY arrest case‼️You are a class act and I wish continued blessings to your family and your life❤️⚓️🌁‼️
This is quite an intelligent man. He accepted the advice of his manager/attorney concerning a clause inserted into his record contracts regarding re-recording rights. Intelligence is not simply having an extraordinary IQ, it is also recognizing that quality in others and accepting their advice. BTW SO sweet of him to mention how transfixed he was by EDB's coverage of the Depp vs. Heard trial. That is also when I got "addicted" to EDB!♥
Great episode and discussion! I love that he's a fan of yours, too! I am tickled when people who seem so far 'beyond' have moments of connection. Just like when I found out that Vin Disel was into TTRP and his eyes just lit up when he talked about his witch hunter. 😂
My late husband gave me a plush pug for Valentines Day one year that sings I like big hugs and I cannot lie. 🙏🥰❤️ bless you and thank you for making me smile. Our four year old son has it now.
Amazing interview! This was so fascinating! Live music is so important! Can’t believe we were watching the Depp trial with Sir Mix-a-Lot. Thanks, EDB! 💜
I never knew I even cared about the stuff EDB covers. I still don't care about Vander pump whatever, but I still end up listening. Lol This interview was interesting having come out of music retail when I saw the way digital music was taking over.
So cool watching Emily blush. Sir Mix a lot mention he watched to be JOhnny Depp trial Sir Mix a lot mentioned he watched the Johnny Depp trial via Emily D Baker. Like how many other celebrities were on there too. Emily D Baker. Sir Mix A lot is right you do a great job translating for us non law school folks. You deserve all the compliments. (And we get to watch you blush).
I listened to the podcast but wanted to pop on to the UA-cam vid to say this truly was such an awesome podcast episode. He was such a good guest and the conversation was incredibly interesting. 💜
I also tried to sing baby got back on a karaoke night on a cruise ship. Did not go well. I definitely lost air halfway through. It doesn't quite work out like that when I sing it in my car so I don't know what happened, LOL

Sir Mix A Lot was a valuable guest on this show. I hope the newer acts and artists are listening to him. Please, learn your laws and rights.
