That part with chester was just brilliant. Your videos are very helpful, creative and offer some pretty cool tips (and amusing, I lol'd at the soundtrack lmao). Thank you for sharing your work with us!
Actually grass doesn't need to be that far from gekkos. My grass spawned gekkos which I only kept like 6 pitchfork tiles away and still continued to spawn gekkos afterward.
I did something similar but was really frustrated with getting the gekkos into the gate, so I just froze them with an ice staff when they got close and pushed them in instead lol
i think that the more times you pick the grass its a higher chance of getting a gekko because on my world after about the 3rd harvest i get around 5 or 6 out of 48
I did that once. A lot of them went through very quickly. But a few would jump out because they can push each other out of the fences. Getting them back in is a real headache sometimes. But it might work depending on how the tunnel is designed.
you can just take a bearger to somewhere very far away from your base, then make it sleep. If a bearger exists somewhere in the world, another cannot spawn. For moose/goose you can use multiple houndius to kill it whenever it spawns. With these methods, you only need to deal with deerclops.
I think they jump out of the pens because of those open corners. It could probably be solved by putting an extra fence in each corner. Or do they really go through the walls? I haven't really made too many gekko farms, but the only time one ran away, it was through a corner
I found out when there is a gate in a pen gekkos are unlikely to go through that gate. but when you dont have a gate gekkos seem to go into it. Maybe gekkos sees the open gate as a full block so they avoid it? Im not 100% sure. If you could please test it out.
1% chance does not mean you will get 1 in every 100 grass harvests. You could harvest 10,000 grass and still not get one, if you are very unlucky, or you could get 10 in 100.
Don't build these pens near bases or any other place that is visited or passed by often. The grass they drop accumulates very quickly and doesn't stack when on the ground inevitably lead to incredible fps drop (I got it halved down to 30 fps from 60 fps in just few seasons of walking by them).
how often do you think the gekkos can escape through the fances? are the secondary fences really a necessity? I'm thinking of making a farm with only 12 gekkos, it should be enough for me haha
If you make their pen a little bigger than my secondary fences (maybe just 1 space bigger), I don't think you will need to worry about any of those 12 gekkos escaping.
geckos don't seem sustainable; they will always glitch through walls. Which means theoretically they could do it even through double walls, by the glitch happening twice to the same gecko. Has anyone found a solution?
I've never been able to spawn more than 6 gekkos in an area if there are a few of them already in the same area. But more of them usually spawn very soon after I move all of the gekkos to another location.
i think it's a mechanic in this game when something doesnt spawn if they already have some of them in the same area. Just like Beefalo's poop as i remember
Hey so for the distance of spawning 5 turfs in diagonal is enough to trigger the spawning! I use 3 (3x3 turfs with 1 turf space between each pens) pens il L shape with on the edge the gekkos and the other the grass. in the middle pen i have a stick farm just as filling purpose.
lol yeah thx i started my farm after the first time they came out of my grass and i didn't have a fence i got so mad lol i have mine built a little differently maybe it will work just as good lol and do you know if they spawn in winter? or spring?
Huh this is weird. I created a grass gecko farm by using the same pen for the geckos and the grass in a fairly small area. And it still worked all the grass turned into geckos , any ideas? The area was like 4x6 pitchfork squares
I plant and fertilize the grass tufts around the middle of the first spring. I spend the whole summer in the caves. Then I expect the gekkos to spawn when I harvest the grass a few days into the 2nd autumn. Somewhere around that time. You can probably do it a lot earlier if you wanted to, but this is the first year, and everyone has their own set of things to do. Getting the gekko farms is not an immediate priority for me.
out of curiosity, is this mode endless, survival, or wilderness? it'd be kinda sad if ur 2000 day world died bc u died in an unlucky place and forgot to bring revives or something.
I always play on survival. I have so many meat effigies and life amulets that it should not happen. I have lost a 2k and 4k world already though, but for different reasons.
You can see the 4k world with Wolfgang in some of my videos like the summer options one. I lost that one when the "A New Reign" beta merged with the main branch of the game, and I had to choose between keeping my older games in the main branch or my Wigfrid world in the beta. Obviously I was gonna keep Wigfrid since this is where I started the youtube videos. Maybe there was a way to keep them both, but I don't really mind. The 2k world that I lost was the painful one. I loved the design of that Wickerbottom world because of all the unique stuff Wickerbottom can do. But I took a very long phone call while playing, forgot the game was still on, and the world reset:(
Fun fact: gekkos used to get disease. They removed this from the game though. Anyway, is this useful even if you play wicker bottom? I have a lureplant farm already so...
If you are playing Wickerbottom or have a Wickerbottom player in your team, it will change a lot of things, and a lureplant farm with horticulture books is much better than anything else.
Hi, I am from Brazil, you are master over power of don't starve together, I like very much yours gameplays, I have doubt : How do you do not to catch fire on your farms?
While insane, rabbits become a nightmare version. Killing these have a chance to drop beard hair (It's just that using Wilson's beard is more convenient)
I've 'read that gekkos could get diseases.. and would die in 2 days after it =( then i'm' not sure about making a gekkos farm.. if they really dont get any diseases.. i will build one right away
I tried it in a survival world, with less gekkos and a smaller pen, but the gekkos sometimes fall asleep near chester and don't wake up until I go next to them, so this whole thing doesn't work. (at least for me) Do you know why?
the gekkos do sometimes fall asleep after what seems like they have run around too much. But they get up and start running again without my intervention. I think they should start moving around for you too. Unless the number of gekkos and the size of the pen you built has something to do with it.
I am really in awe of your base and your tips - I don't know anyone who seems to have spent more time thinking about the game than you!
That part with chester was just brilliant. Your videos are very helpful, creative and offer some pretty cool tips (and amusing, I lol'd at the soundtrack lmao). Thank you for sharing your work with us!
Helicalpuma > EdgyRick
Well at least he doesn't praise Wolfgang and plays other characters more often
Everyone > RdgyRick
bEiNg iNsAnE iS wAy mOrE bEtTeR
Edgy Rick gives Us Wolfgang mains a bad name
ARDA GENCER just because a character is best doesn’t mean you have to use them 😐
Actually grass doesn't need to be that far from gekkos. My grass spawned gekkos which I only kept like 6 pitchfork tiles away and still continued to spawn gekkos afterward.
That is good to know. Thanks. I'll try that out. I always just make it far enough to be sure since I don't really know the exact distance.
benny hill music was a great choice lol
I love your video. Really helpful. Just made my 50 day but tired as fu**...
So much effort put there to build a base like yours. Appreciate!
Nice. Good luck:D
i think you need to make the transport area only one or two walls wide so the gekkos won't get past you so they just move forward XD
I didn't even know these gekkos existed. until yesterday.
I did something similar but was really frustrated with getting the gekkos into the gate, so I just froze them with an ice staff when they got close and pushed them in instead lol
I'm glad people a lot of people are doing this now but yes, the ice staff works much better than that crazy tunnel I used 3 years ago.
i think that the more times you pick the grass its a higher chance of getting a gekko because on my world after about the 3rd harvest i get around 5 or 6 out of 48
I had no clue this could happened. Scared tf out of me when it happened. Lol. Now I have a hoard of pet lizards.
Would it be more effective to just create a tunnel that is extremely narrow so it would be easier to move the geckos?
I did that once. A lot of them went through very quickly. But a few would jump out because they can push each other out of the fences. Getting them back in is a real headache sometimes. But it might work depending on how the tunnel is designed.
Gotcha, thanks!
how do you save your base when a giant spawns?
You just have to move away from your base before they get there. There are warning signs and sounds before they spawn.
PurpleMask GT Base near a wormhole! It's a quick escape and if you're not ready to fight it, You can just go back through it again.
i remember when bearger destroyed my huge base
you can just take a bearger to somewhere very far away from your base, then make it sleep. If a bearger exists somewhere in the world, another cannot spawn. For moose/goose you can use multiple houndius to kill it whenever it spawns. With these methods, you only need to deal with deerclops.
i usually build a decoy base..next to beefalos or anything else that can help you fight, then go back to my base after
I think they jump out of the pens because of those open corners. It could probably be solved by putting an extra fence in each corner. Or do they really go through the walls? I haven't really made too many gekko farms, but the only time one ran away, it was through a corner
i say yes out loud whenever i see that you speak in the video
i didnt even know my grass spawns gekkos! Whoa! ty
Damn thumbs up for the Benny Hill theme! :D
I found out when there is a gate in a pen gekkos are unlikely to go through that gate. but when you dont have a gate gekkos seem to go into it. Maybe gekkos sees the open gate as a full block so they avoid it? Im not 100% sure. If you could please test it out.
Gekko spawning is so strange... my second pen is about 1.5 - 2 full screens away and I haven't yet been able to get a second spawn.
its like herding cats lol
It was even worse later on when I finished the farm:/
1% chance does not mean you will get 1 in every 100 grass harvests. You could harvest 10,000 grass and still not get one, if you are very unlucky, or you could get 10 in 100.
Thanks mate. It will help me very much.

I've never such a determined person
How did you make those doors? Are something exclusive for DST or is it a mod?
It's a DST thing found in the structures tab along with the fences.
Helicalpuma Ahh, thanks it was driving me crazy
how often do you think the gekkos can escape through the fances? are the secondary fences really a necessity? I'm thinking of making a farm with only 12 gekkos, it should be enough for me haha

Any tips on to not have your structures burst into flame in summer?
ua-cam.com/video/rSwLxN3R8TQ/v-deo.html
Thanks
Super useful video!
Beautiful base! Do you never have problems during summer fires?
I spend the summers in the caves.
Helicalpuma and you can add fling-o-matics
Death_ Pl4yer You would have to add a TON, and keep them all fueled up all summer
God this seems tidious. I'll stay with my lureplant grass farm
Yea but you get no leafy meat
What is the purpose of creating the 2nd pen to lead them to? Couldn't you just let them all run around in the original pen?
SeanMMR I'm not sure, but I think they don't spawn again if there's some already there, that's why you gotta move them...
SoccerSkill28 hmm. In my world, I just have them in their original pen still. And so far they've spawned in on two separate occasions. Weird

Ah yes, enslaved grass
question... how far do the fences or walls have to be from chester in order to keep them running in a circle like that?
The area doesn't have to be as small as I made it. You can probably make it a few walls bigger than my secondary fences.
lol yeah thx i started my farm after the first time they came out of my grass and i didn't have a fence i got so mad lol i have mine built a little differently maybe it will work just as good lol and do you know if they spawn in winter? or spring?

Goes well with Benny Hill music 👍🙂
lol down a brick road from my base are about 50 grass gekos and like a bajjilion grass
you just earned a sub your video is helpful and insightfull
If i just use walls in the corners, the grass geckos are going to hop the fence?
can someone tell me if the gekko farm is possible in the caves?
@@lazaromora8263 it should be
When harvesting grass from my farm three of them turned to gekkos
Must be the hardest labour-work i ever would do in DST
How soon can you start trying to make a gekko farm? Is there any good number of days before they start converting?
I plant and fertilize the grass tufts around the middle of the first spring. I spend the whole summer in the caves. Then I expect the gekkos to spawn when I harvest the grass a few days into the 2nd autumn. Somewhere around that time. You can probably do it a lot earlier if you wanted to, but this is the first year, and everyone has their own set of things to do. Getting the gekko farms is not an immediate priority for me.
Would this work well with wickerbottom
Yes It would
An ice staff makes moving the gekko infinitely easer to move
Is there still a limit to how many can spawn in a certain area?
Is it possible to spawn gecos in caves?
Yep it is possible.
out of curiosity, is this mode endless, survival, or wilderness? it'd be kinda sad if ur 2000 day world died bc u died in an unlucky place and forgot to bring revives or something.
I always play on survival. I have so many meat effigies and life amulets that it should not happen. I have lost a 2k and 4k world already though, but for different reasons.
What ended your 4k world? I have to know, haha.
You can see the 4k world with Wolfgang in some of my videos like the summer options one. I lost that one when the "A New Reign" beta merged with the main branch of the game, and I had to choose between keeping my older games in the main branch or my Wigfrid world in the beta. I loved the design of that Wickerbottom world because of all the unique stuff Wickerbottom can do. But I took a very long phone call while playing, forgot the game was still on, and the world reset:(
Damn... I feel your pain. This game is full of life lessons lol.
Why does the other pen have to be far?
Loved the music it cracked me up 😂
I would use teleportator just for those geckos man..
Damn.. it is quite and idea! Hahaha Because by the 500ish days, you have as many gems as you want
I spend summer's away from this base. Mostly in a cave base.
I really like the way you talk lol
@Allzxz Sempre tem alguém
Do you have any efficient way to farm twigs?
Yes, chop twig trees and plant the cones near your base. They cant get diseased, similary to the gekkos.
Why do you use fences instead of walls?
easier to make
Please my base lags a lot what do you recommend ? Why this happens?
Hey very useful tutorial! I have a question : how do you have a meat effigy with wigfrid?? It needs the wilson's beard
While insane, rabbits become a nightmare version. Killing these have a chance to drop beard hair (It's just that using Wilson's beard is more convenient)
Thank you :)
Hi, I am wondering is it possible to trap them after they spawned?
The basket traps you build for rabbits don’t work on geckos, unfortunately
I know im late but if someone sees this
Use an ice staff to freeze the geckos and its 100x easier to push
Nice video man
i tried this myself but my gekkos wouldn't be scared by chester, does anyone know why?
@atomic936 it is a 2x2 tiles pen, maybe it's because i brought chester after the gekkos
Why not just keep the geckos in the grass pen and collect grass from both
Edit: oh I see (just rewatched video)
you know you think that in late spring /early summer the moment all your grass runs , you think it is more than 1%
What song did you use it's amazing!!
Benny Hill:)
Helicalpuma Thank you
I've 'read that gekkos could get diseases.. and would die in 2 days after it =(
then i'm' not sure about making a gekkos farm..
if they really dont get any diseases.. i will build one right away
They don't get disease:)
According to the wiki, that used to be a thing, but was removed in "A New Reign".
Are you Filipino?
Uhm why didn't you just pick up those grass and wait until all the grass are gone
How do i stop gekkos from spawning?
Dont move then after the first spawn
My gecko farm was just destroyed by pengulls. they broke one piece of fence and all geckos got out.
Helicalpuma I will leave them alone with chester and try again, thx for responding!
You have a really nice voice
does this s till work
yeah
How do i kill these things easily?
Why would you want to kill them :/ ... blowdarts.
Well what I do is wait for them to sleep and them take em out with spears (this can take many attempts)
What is the use of gekkos???
For me it's a long term substitute for grass tufts if you don't have a Wickerbottom in your game.
I have cuescion does eating lefy meat makes me vegan?
Actually, there are diseased geckos. They exist now, check the wiki!
The wiki says that there used to be diseased gekkos, but that they have been removed from the game.
day 1802...
no seria más rápido por trampas de dientes en el camino para que cuando pasen se mueran
Si se mueren te quedás sin pasto que para eso los movés.
I just instald a mod to provent gekkos, fuck i din't know Gekkos drop grass.
Warm Milk lmao
Tried doing this, gekos are about as easy to herd down that corridor as autistic cats.
Who said tutorials couldnt be entertaining
its just time no 1% chance
Look like zoo
1st :P
fuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrssssssssstttttttttt
All great but very very annoying music
