Hello Mr. Zarnock! I would love to see a series called "Is It Real or a Fake Variation?" That would be amazing to watch and learn from the best. I have factory errors in my collection way before people could do their work on fakes. Now they are all useless in value bc of these custom idiots screwing with diecast. And they do not care why!! bc they are not real collectors of the hobby. Just another way to make a buck for most and a bit pride in selling a custom they made to brag about to others.
I have been doing this for matchbox cars for close to 50 years now. I used to hold a class or two at my MCCH convention showing people what to look for. But for the last 10 years, I’ve given up the new matchbox for the insanity after 60 some odd years of collecting. Fakes are large part of this hobby and you should never invest in something which you do not know.
Lots of kids and millennials now that want "rare rare rare" for social media clout and care about nothing else. They will gladly pay out $100, $200, $500 for a fake and post it up on their social media as the real thing. I get all my cars from bulk lots and junk bins, and have gotten dozens of very rare cars that way, and because they are from some kids' old toybox forgotten in an attic for decades, there is no question of authenticity.

Mike, wondering why anything is wrong on the HotWheels Wiki is like wondering why the sky is blue. It just is usually! 😂🤣😂 And for clarity's sake could you do a video pointing out how they aren't "rivets" and it's better for the hobby in general to call them "posts"? I can only imagine how many times a day/week/month that you have to go thru pointing out faked variations to duped collectors that want their car to be worth what they paid when it truly is a fake.
The Hot Wheels Wiki is a garbage dump. It used to be run by experienced collectors like Kenny (HaarFager) who were just as knowledgeable as Zarnock himself and knew what they were doing. Once the new Wiki layout came out in 2019 or so, it put off the experienced admins and they left and abandoned the site because the layout is garbage. Then kids took over that wanted to say "I own the Hot Wheels Wiki" for clout and have ZERO experience at Hot Wheels. I was one of the self-appointed janitors of the site from 2012-late 2015 and made all kinds of corrections to articles and ensured everything was easy to understand and accurate. That all changed when some ignorant French guy who was not even a collector at all who somehow was an administrator, went and undid all my changes for 5 years worth of corrections because "I was messing up pages" just because he had no concept of the English language or proper formatting. He subsequently got banned himself by the head admin because when he undid my 5 years worth of changes, it broke the entire website because that was over 6,000 article correction modifiers that got reverted and it threw everything into chaos. I never returned to that website again. I tried again to make another correction just last month to an article, but got it immediately undone by the idiot kid admin that's there who is assuredly not even 20 years old because he said "don't add fake information". It was not even fake information, it was information Larry Wood said himself in an interview on UA-cam about his own cars, and the kid banned me because he said that "videos can be faked" like dude.....just....dude The site is a massive cesspit now and the entire accuracy of any of it is totally gone. All it's value is done and gone.

"The oldest Hot Wheels Historian: (still alive today), Me!, Mr. Spike". p.s.,- ?Why do you studder so much?.
Mark, thank you for your video. I was wondering if you would create a video on the mechanics behind variations and the many reasons they occur. i.e., transitions pieces, artists change mind, re-use of prior casting to make the next release, errors in production. in fact, now that i think about it, a video could be made on each subject. ha ha. anyways, thank you for all that you do and keep hunting!
Well, somebody might want to tell the people at Halls guide the bad news, because they have both cars listed as being valued at hundreds each. If you run a price guide and don’t actually know about the product you are pricing, how can you be trusted? I can’t believe that there are millions of hot wheels collectors and we can’t get a legitimate price guide. I don’t collect for the money and have sold very few of them. But at the same time, if you are in a business that has millions of collectors, then respect the collector of your product and put out a legitimate price guide! You might get more collectors! Now since I can’t trust Halls guide, where do I turn to?
A lot of places will take anyone's comment and photo to list it in their guide. There are a few that are no longer around that would take anything and print it... You may notice that my books and all I do is authorized and licensed by Hot Wheels and has been since 2002. Plus most others don't have the resources and contacts that I do. The designers and others at Hot Wheels are my personal friends and I can call or text them at any time for questions.
@@HotWheelsTV so is this the creator of Halls guide? If it is, I’m sorry if I came off as rude but after watching Mike Zarnoks last video about hot wheels that never existed, it was a surprise to find both cars in the guide. I have been following Halls guide to purchase my blue card hot wheels. So does the 1999 hot wheels chevelle ss five dot wheels exist? Or the 2000 gold chevelle ss white interior? I do appreciate the work that is put into the guide and will continue to follow it for my blue card collection. It helps me when I’m at an antique store

It was not even fake information, it was information Larry Wood said himself in an interview on UA-cam about his own cars, and the kid banned me because he said that "videos can be faked" like dude.....just....dude
The site is a massive cesspit now and the entire accuracy of any of it is totally gone. All it's value is done and gone.
I like customs...but don't sell it on as a RARE...car.
@271chrissy and that's why we all need to know what's real or fake..
@@HotWheelsTV Too true man.
There is a market for scammers everywhere....
Unfortunately it has been for some time now... That's why we need to be informed.
Thanks 4 the info! 👋👍
Thanks for the learning of the fake hotwheels my friend appreciate you thank you .
Jellious because he doesn't have one, just like not having the 5 inch hot wheels tv. Well, i do have tv and many variations of this shity Chevy And i remember where i bought them. "The Art Of The Deal" (theblue car.s with stripes being different 5spoke, a 5dot wheel car, A Gold car w/BlackStripes white int., a all Black car w/5spoke, ..I believe You just don't know about every thing Matel does to keep collectors interested in the hobby of car collecting.
"The oldest Hot Wheels Historian: (still alive today), Me!, Mr. Spike".
p.s.,- ?Why do you studder so much?.
@SpikeCory I guess Mattel is jealous too cause they say it was never made... But I guess you know more.. P.S. Do you have a real name?
Great video .
Thanks!
Sure... I think I will sit with Brendon next time we get together and we'll do that!
Great info
Texas in the house.
Thanks for the video on many fake variations 👍😭
No problem! Thanks for watching!
Thanks Mike 🔥🛞
Welcome!
My picture off the Hot wheels car was bought that way how do I get it recognised for missing two tyres
Errors like that are very common these days..
The wiki is a dang nightmare. People correct info and some knob reverts it back. It's annoying as hell
Anyone that uses the wiki as gospel in this hobby is ignorant.
I just started collecting about 6 months ago and was using the wiki as a checklist for 2024 HWs and I noticed some of the colors they had listed didn't seem right, especially for the Kroger store exclusives
@@robbieracer3294 that's what happens when it's a database anyone can edit at any time.
Good for general use but not to be used for deeper details lol.
Yes... if anyone can edit it, how can it be correct?
Thank you SOOO much! Hurts to get swindled.
@guthammer yes it does! Again, that's why I wrote my first Variation guide. Too many people were getting taken, including me! It took two years to write the first one to get all the facts straight!
I have one is real
Did you watch the video..?
What about that 5 dot `66 Batmobile. I`ve heard the real/not real arguments but anyway, never saw one in hand. When buying errors or varies, know what and who you buy from and it should work out. Seeing these total fakes people try to ebay gives me mixed feelings. one you got to laugh and two you want to go let the air out that guys tires one night. lol
I have seen a couple that other people have along with a couple transitional ones too... 5dot rear or 5dot front.. but can't say that I have done any research on that one.
It's fake
Mike, if you're interested, I can send you pics of how easy it is to make a gold with white int Chevelle
Thank you! Did you already put the up on my facebook page or was that someone else? I appreciate it!
Yes mike have the 2 casting but your right not real!!
👍🏼
I’m no HW aficionado but I could tell immediately that blue car was a fake with those posts.
Everyone needs to pay attention to the audience I'm hot wheels when war happens and if we win my hot wheels will be worth something but lets see if hot wheels survives our predisesers
They've survived for over 50 years! Let's hope for at least 50 more!
