This is great! A rare recording of one of their earliest gigs at a small club called the London Fog! They sounded great from the beginning and mix in original songs with covers.
The only sad thing is the guy who recorded and provided this show lost the second half of it that had the End on it! He is looking for the tape but can’t find it so far. It’s worth money if he can find it.
What a shame it’s lost because I’d like to hear it!
But the cup is half full so I have to be pleased with this show!
    Thanks for uploading this show.

This was given a proper release a few years back. According to John Densmore, it represents only half their set that night which also included "Break On Through," "Light My Fire," and "The End." Unfortunately, whoever recorded it missed that portion but it's pretty incredible to hear this just the same. Also interesting they had "You Make Me Real" so early on.

Going into the year 1967 I think the hottest bands in LA at that time had to be
    The Doors
    The Seeds
    The Byrds
    The Beach Boys
    The Standells
    Love
    The Mothers Of Invention
    Buffalo Springfield
    and The Music-Machine

When I listen to this it's evident the Doors were bound for Stardom from the very first.
They say that Morrison's shyness was difficult for him to overcome .
But from the sound on this tape , he must have already gotten over it , cause it sounds to me like he is really getting on with his performance.
There is no obvious holding back in this performance .
If I'd were a producer I'd have signed them on this performance alone.
Great historical document on their status and how long it took to get here.
Let's enjoy the remainder of the recording .

they soundlike a decent cover band with a good singer. there's only 2 original songs in the whole setlist and you've got to remember that the London Fog was empty. they got dropped by the Fog after a few months because no one was turning up. there are glimpses of what they would become, but the songs arent there yet.

Hard to believe that they could not get a record deal.
Morrison a voice is so healthy and un damaged .
Plus where was he getting his inspiration from???
At this point he was still so green that he didn't even know yet how great he is and would become .
Less then 20 people inside the bar.
    Off the dog chain.
    Totally .
Can just picture it , got August night in Hollywood .
    Hippies everywhere .
    Marijuana smoking everywhere .
You cawalk inta local head shop and buy a
    Sugar cube of LSD for
    1.50$ it's still legal.
Outside the music is thumping so hard traffic is stopping ,
The sonsoul kitchen describes it all ,
The cars crawl by a stuffed with eyes....
    Street light shine ....
Strange days had found us , without a doubt .
This is a true treasure .
Why was iwith held for so long????
It was all possible at this time ....
How did it all get so fucked up.
    What happens TRUELY.
    We shall never really know.
But I can see it all in my minds eye.
To bad there is no film
    of these performances.
They were very good right from these early days.
They were already better than the Byrd's , Love all of the Hollywood bands .
    No doubt.

How did they get these recordings and why is the sound so good from a dive bar on the sunset strip

Ronald Baillie I just read on Amazon that a girlfriend of the band was asked to record a session with a reel to reel tape recorder. Unfortunately she recorded two reels, but lost one of them, thus explaining the short number of songs.

Same reason Kick Out The Jams by the MC5 sounds great. It's organic in a small environment where the sound bounces off the walls. Iggy Pop of The Stooges recalled maneuvering around the crowd at the Grande Ballroom in Detroit to get the best sound of Led Zeppelin during their first North American tour in 1969.

Yes it is but has been lost and it's not part of the official release. At one point you can hear someone in the audience singin' "light my fire". According to some sources "fire" was played mid the set plus an early rendtion of "the end"

John Densmore was horrible drummer to start with. This recording is the proof. Off course he developed into a great one (for the purpose of the Doors) later on.
