Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the exact same, or so im told. After a certain amount of reps and body positioning etc, you become an expert. I try to use this same correlation on comparison to music. It took me yesrs to become competent at the guitar, mamy hours in my bedroom as a youth. Im now a very accomplished lead guitarist, albeit at a non pro level. Hopefully someday I will get my black belt in BJJ, and also with time, be financially and mentally satisfied in life.

I totally agree with the idea of focused practice, but how did he come up with 10,000 hours? Did his research subjects actually keep track of the number of hours they practiced and turn in their records after they became masters so he could come to his conclusions? I doubt this, so I think the 10k hour thing is just a way of saying that you have to perform quality practice until you reach your performance goals no matter how long it takes. It could be 5k hours or 20k hours, just do it until you get there.

Yes, he actually researched it and close to 10000 hours the magic happened. It´s a lot of work to put in 10k hours in one skill (like you said, quality hours)... but it pays out in the end.
