Great learning experience for you and video for all that have forgotten half the little details. The bearing "tabs" helped in the initial factory assembly also (an attempt to idiot proof).
Great video’s, I like to remove pistons from liners to check ring gap placement, hard to fix later when you find out there wrong, Thanks for the videos
Are you guys having good luck with Reliance Kits ? Surprised ya didn't use Deere having dealership. All these kits no days I here horror stories is why I ask. Nice channel and content.
That's a great question! If the bearing clearance was out of spec we would have the crank ground even smaller, but then buy oversized bearings to compensate for the grind! 👍
I may have missed when you said who jake was, is he a former dealer mechanic?? Of still full time dealer mechanic as well as helper with farm stuff or is he family as well??
Jakes work is amazing
Thanks for a great video
Glad you enjoyed it
I have seen thousands of those things being built. You guys are doing a good job.
Love your words of wisdom!!! 😂😂

What book are you using to help you check tolerances?
Tip of advice I usually waited until I have the eng running and then Set Valve lash. :) so then you don't have to double do it.
Great video thank you
Nice video, it's great to see old John Deere being restore
I don't have a clue to what you are doing but I love the video you do an awesome job can't wait for the next one
Great video!! You did a good job explaining everything. Can’t wait to here it run!!!
Great video love watching that stuff!
Sure would be nice to have a big heated shop that big and clean to work on equipment.

We have had good luck with Reliance and this kit came with high-compression pistons which is the main reason we got it! 👍
Solid.
What would you have done if the plasti gauge was beyond spec??

🔥always a good day when ya get parts from the machine shop eh🔥🤙🔥🏍🏍🏍
We are doing a 4230 right now. I’ve been asking around and knows one seems to have good advice! What engine kit are you using?
Reliance high compression kit is what we always go with for 4230's. Makes them start instantly on a 20 degree day. 👍
every day is a school day
👍👍
How do you know how to assemble the rod to the piston? Is the rod marked in some way like the piston top is?
I may have missed when you said who jake was, is he a former dealer mechanic?? Of still full time dealer mechanic as well as helper with farm stuff or is he family as well??
Jake is my uncle and was a full time mechanic at the dealership for 10 or so years after he went to John Deere tech school.
Please... Not ORIENTATE...! And certainly NOT ORIENTATED...! The word is JUST ORIENT...! ( or ORIENTED and ONLY ORIENTATION...! )
I had to laugh at the use of a forklift to install the crank and head. I thank God I don't have to do that on Toyota engines.
