Beautiful song love the chorus melody. A few years ago I discovered Rai randomly. One of the best musical discoveries I ever made. Ive listened to skylark so many times and go nuts chase the clouds etc too
Not sure if Rai will ever see this but here is a great Rai story for the internet: Me and a buddy were on a tour of every gig we could see in LA a few years ago and after seeing Toto, Michael McDonald, Deep Purple, Slash, Paul McCartney and Gladys Knight we found ourselves at the Greek Theatre in box seats for Blues Traveller, Uncle Kracker, Sugar Ray and Smash Mouth. Me and a buddy spot Rai and shout out to him. Lo and behold he wanders over. "G Day fellas how you doing?!" We proceed to chat to Rai and after a few stories realise we know a couple mutaul muso friends. I then offer Rai a drink from the bar, which he declines. I press the issue by saying "Rai, every covers gig I have ever done I have played one of your songs. I owe you royalties" Rai proceeds to watch the show with us, then take us back stage as his mate was playing bass for Sugar Ray. I met Ron Jeremy, then I proceeded to eat all the cold cuts from Smash Mouths rider while they got tattoos, Boz Scaggs drummer was hanging out with us and then Rai took us downtown to a jam session where I played bass with him. The bloke is a rock god and one of the nicest blokes you will ever meet.
This is awesome. I have a similar story, although not as epic. About 10 years ago, my workplace organised for Thirsty Merc to play at a private event in Sydney. After the gig, my colleagues and I had a chat with Rai and the band and asked if they wanted to hit the pub, which they agreed to! Had a great time chatting over a few beers and then Rai invited us to join him at a jazz jam session later that evening at another bar nearby. Good times!
This song STILL gets stuck in my head. I've listened so many times, I started picking up on little things, like the little flutter at 1:45 on 'youuuuuu.' Kudos, Ray, love your work.

My favorite Merc song. Sang and played this song at my high school talent show.
You are great Rai. Can’t wait until you’re back in LA playing.
That final ‘off’ chord when you reached “…at your door” 😵😵😵
