Audi VW 3.0 tdi offset hole in Crankshaft Pulley.

  • Please take care when installing a new Crankshaft Pulley. It can only be mounted correctly if you match up the 1mm offset hole. Ignore the 2nd photo (the rusty pulley) the removed bolt isn't the offset hole. This was just the first bolt I removed - it's difficult doing it blind, I used a mirror at 45 degrees to help line up the spline bit into the bolt head.

    A5 TDI does not have an off set/ dall pin for alignment as I found out they fit on anyway

    Does the new pulley need to in the same place? Can you explain the offset? I need to do mine soon and would like to know a little bit more...Thanks

      Hi, because of the offset hole, the pulley can only be mounted correctly in one position. You don't need to worry about timing or TDC. I can't see a functional reason for the offset hole to be honest. Also buy ContiTech MS25 mounting bolts and washer. And new belt. Thanks.
